Will Prospect Park Use Fi-Core Writers on New All My Children and One Life to Live?
By Jamey Giddens on December 17, 2012

While the Deadline report on Prospect Park's renewed plans to bring One Live to Live and All My Children back via the web mentions the production company having secured pacts with the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and actors union SAG-AFTRA, I'm hearing PP might bypass the entertainment industry's other crucial union, the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

"They're looking to hire Fi-Core writers," says an insider. "That way they don't have to negotiate with the WGA or deal with Guild minimums."
Apparently, PP has been asking around about the availability of several scribes who have financial core status with the WGA— including a pair currently helming a daytime drama. Keep checking back with Daytime Confidential as this story develops!

I dunno how I feel about this. There are some good fi-core writers but why not just deal with WGA?

Yes, WGA has been noticeably not mentioned. It has been a thorn in Prospect Park's side in the past. However, I wonder if the weight of SAG/AFTRA and the DGA might sway the scales for Prospect Park this time? Time and a formal Prospect Park announcement will tell. Thank you Jamey for sharing your insights.

Let's be honest....soaps for years have been written by WGA writers and where has that gotten us in the past decade? The same stories are recycled on show after show when the same writers soap hop. I would love to see fresh talent be given a chance to come up with storylines. They can't be worse then what we have seen over the past few years on most of the shows. WGA can't expect the same money to be paid to writers today as it was the in past. Soaps don't make the same $. Actors had to take pay cuts so should teh writers.

Nysam,
The writers have taken pay cuts! Learn the facts. Membership in the unions provides health insurance and pension retirement benefits. How many professionals do you know who don't want health care or retirement savings?

Joss, you learn the facts. I worked in the business and know that many are highly paid for putting out bad quality. Head Writers easily make over a million a year. Breakdown and scriptwriters on the low end make about $300k annually. For that money there should be better ideas coming out of the soaps.

I think if they will still be a package for Wi-Fi writers to make money with some sort of benefits maybe not to the degree of TV. AN would probably be only to happy to have her beloved AMC up and running and would be happy to set a bible for AMC to get it up and running with stories. How about bringing back as a Wisner Washam and Hal Corley which wrote with Agnes for many years especially all through the '80s. As OLTL I would love to see LB for OLTL and MM back writing the show. During his time in the '90s he brought back OLTL to its roots with social issues. His 2nd stint wasn't as good but I think that had to do more with Brian Frons and his directive what he wanted him to write.

@TheOldSoapster - I can co-sign on statement. I am sure OLTL could use some fans to come up with a long-term vision or story outline. Like you, my rate would be reasonable

I'm more than a little leery of trusting PP again but if *anyone* can actually get our beloved soaps going again, I'd be beyond thrilled!
