Crew members for NBC's Days of Our Lives will unfortunately have more than New Year's resolutions to worry about on December 31. According to The Burbank Leader, over 175 entertainment industry employees in Burbank are set to be laid off— including DAYS production staffers!
NBCUniversal reportedly issued 50 layoff notices, which are set to go into effect on the last day of the year.
From the article:
Some of the air-conditioning and building-services workers have been hired by the lot’s new owner, Ross said. However, production staffers who work on “Days of Our Lives” are still in limbo, he added.
The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, Communications Workers of America, Local 53 has filed grievances against NBCUniversal as a result of the layoffs.

That fuckin sux. The cast becomes very close to its crew also. I pray that these people find work & can support themselves & their families.

Yikes! I wonder if this is any reflection on it's chances for renewal. Things look dim.

Awful news for those poor people! Industry production jobs (from set to craft services) are hard to come by, and with Republicans and Corporations dismantling Unions and all forms of worker rights, it could be a double whammy for anyone who is lucky enough to still be employed in the biz.
Horrible way to end the year.
As a snarky side note: Will Days look even cheaper than it does now? Will they be taping out of trailers and in Costco parking lots soon with handycams?

At this rate I see Days getting the axe before General Hospital- The whole thing is shitty including the storylines- (YAWN) Sony should help these folks find some jobs

Yeah this doesn't look good for Days, along with their lame and safe storylines. Like other soaps that were cancelled it'll finally be great right before cancellation or right after it is.

Couldn't they have waited until AFTER the holiday. I'd like to know who was the person that made this call.

This is horrible and I really do not understand the motive. I don't watch Days but this is getting horrible. I have a semblance of hope that they will not cancel Days. I have already went through that last year with ABC. I knew that NBC was in trouble. I am somewhat hopeful that this just means downsizing. I would never want anyone else to go through what I did last year losing AMC and OLTL.

I was laid off in a February, and I found out later that they had planned to do it before Christmas but decided against it because of the bad PR. Honestly, there's no good time to do it, but it's going to be done eventually.

Having been in or around the media business for 30+ years I can say it is filled with some of the most cold hearted people on the planet. Ruthless and cruel is a sport to them. Despicable people fill the industry. Cold, very cold.

At this point a couple of weeks wouldn't make any difference. What is wrong with people these days. No loyalty AT ALL to the employees that more often than not have been loyal to the company they work for. I'm tired of this shit about the bottom line, and it being just business. The employees often make the bottom line.
I am in management and would never treat my staff that way. Disgusting.
Karma's a bitch people.

Still human beings, though, RealityCheck33. People who don't remember that are the ones who are cold and hard.

This is horrible way to find out before Christmas. Pferrando is correct there isn't any loyalty today for employees. Karma baby. This is more NBC. As my husband always told Life's a bitch.....and then you marry one!

This could also affect Days' too, since the writing's not doing much to keep the show going.
