DC's Top 10 Male Entertainers of 2012

No. 9:  Jerry verDorn, One Life to Live

While for many One Life to Live fans, the late Clint Ritchie will always be Clint Buchanan, former Guiding Light icon Jerry verDorn more than made the role his own during the soap's final season on ABC. Although OLTL was only on the air for a handful of episodes in 2012, verDorn's stellar performance, as Clint faced mortality, paternity and destiny with Viki Lord (Erika Slezak), made him quite deserving of a spot on this list. Prospect Park better cast verDorn in their planned OLTL reboot, or there will be Texas-sized hell to pay!

I cannot fault this list, except to say that Chandler Massey's charm has worn a little thin on me in recent weeks.....Then again, maybe it's because he's been handed a shiteous storyline that appears to have no end in sight.

I only watch GH so can only comment on those characters but I completely agree on Jason T and Brandon B they have been handed nothing but scraps or garbage and turned it into golden performances. I truly hope both actors and their agents are lining up pilot auditions because these actors are destined for much more then daytime and should move on to their very obviously bright futures.

I will never understand why they aren't being used as GH's a list stars they are their strongest male actors. Of course GH is currently using its two of its weakest actresses as leads so why am I asking?

Brandon should have been way higher IMO but as I said only watch GH, so I admit to possibly being wrong there however, I will say without a doubt he deserve a much higher spot the Michael Easton, maybe not people from other shows but I'd certainly swap him and Easton because not in a million years could Easton pull off what Brash has this year.

Anyway I truly hope both are working on their next stage because they out of the entire GH are the only two ready and deserving. (well Kirsten Storms)

Love CM, but I'm in agreement with you here and again it is probably due to this abysmal storyline; he's obviously talented, but not even he's gonna be able to salvage a story that puts this show's two most unappealing and impossible-to-root-for characters--Gabi and Nick--at its' center.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jerry Ver Dorn. And my admiration of him is truly a testament to his great talent and oozing charisma. As mentioned above, it is one of the most difficult feats to pull off a recast of one of a soap's most iconic legacy characters. And Ver Dorn did just that. I never watched him at all on GL, so I was very resistant to someone coming in to fill the shoes of an actor I had watched and enjoyed since the mid-eighties. He won me over and then some.
And to top it all off, I had the pleasure to tell him exactly what I just wrote in person last January at the OLTL event in Westbury, NY. I hope he took it to heart. We are waiting for hopefully a lot more CLINT in 2013!

P.S.- Thank you Daytime Confidential for the hilarious jabs at Jason...Jason...Jason who? LOLOLOL

Couple of comments...

1) DC's hard-on for OLTL is a bit obvious with the constant Cartini shout outs and OLTL/GH men on this list. Other soaps don't get the EP/HW tandem reference constantly. GH is always Cartini, yet other soaps simply get the EP reference. Please try to be a bit more objective. Howarth is good and worthy of the top 10 but not #1. Easton has been non-existent on GH for the past 3 months so not sure why he is on the list. He also needs to eat a sandwich or two. Now that is a man that Heather and Connie could easily cart around town.

2) Don Diamont is HOT.

3) When will Doug Davidson lose the terrible toupee?

4) Why isn't Billy Miller on the list?

1 other man should be on this list....granted his time was brief but the excitment and story that he stirred is undeniable. Anders Hove's "Faison" did more in his 7 episodes on GH than several of these guys did in 7 months on their shows.

@stefanstavros: IMO, Jerry Ver Dorn is one of the greatest actors in daytime history. If you think he was good on OLTL (and he was in the show's last year or so) you will think he was brilliant as Ross Marler on Guiding Light. You can sample any episode on YT from GL (1983 to 1993) that features Ross Marler and see what I mean. A particular great episode featuring JVD's Ross is titled, "Dreamgirls".

Although, the return of AJ Quartermaine to GH has been great for the show, Sean Kanan's acting leaves much to be desired. I think I would have preferred a recast.

Roger Howarth has been incredible all year on OLTL and GH. I agree he was the most entertaining male performer in 2012.

Jason Thompson was the best dramatic actor in daytime in ages. He has acted circles around the GH cast all 2012.

I love Don Diamont as Dolla Bill on B&B. I found Brad Carlton to be so flat and unimpressive.

Although he hasn't had much to do in 2012 until recent months, I think Michael Muhney has been wildly entertaining as Adam Newman on Y&R. I would also give Ian Buchanan & Anders Hove a shared spot on the list, because "Fluke" Lavery/Faison/Real Duke was fascinating to watch.

I can't wait to see the top female performers of the year.

soapbaby-JVD's pairing with Liz Kieffer's Blake was one of my fondest memories of GL. That and his handling of family dynamics when it came to Maeve Kincaid (Vanessa), Wendy Moniz (Dinah), and Grant Alexsander (Phillip). Good times, good times... Innocent

I agree Billy should be on the list. Funny that Deacon made the list, but the girl who plays Brooke doesn't want to work with him. Another reason B&B sucks.

@SwanQueen59: Remembering Guiding Light makes me teary-eyed! Jerry Ver Dorn had chemistry with everyone he shared a scene with. IMO, Ross Marler was a hugely integral part of Guiding Light. I pretty much gave up on the show the way Ross was written out.

I may just go fire up my GL DVDs Wink

Jason who??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I seriously LOVED those little comments!!!!

I'm so agreeing with the GH men on this list, especially JT, who imploded the material they gave him following Robin's "death". Love ME as McBain on GH(not so much OLTL the last few years), but Saint Jason's leaving has completely messed up and stalled his storyline with Sam.

Not having Michael Muhney on this list makes it irrelevant. I am starting to think that DC might become irrelevant too!

I agree with your number one pick one hundred percent! Roger Howarth made a show I could not stand not only watchable but enjoyable! I have loved every minute of him on GH.

I can see Billy Miller possibly added but what the heck did Michael Muhney do this year to make him a shoe in for this kind of list? His character was on the backburner for most of 2012.

I must agree that Don Diamont has aged like fine wine. He is still a fine, fine looking man.

Michael Muhney should definitely be on this list,as he always delivers no matter what the storyline.

Absolutely love Roger Howarth and he makes my day when he's on GH,especially his scenes with Brandon Barash.Love these guys.

My personal no.1 would be Jason Thompson. He not only looks good but his eyes do a lot of talking when the words aren't enough to convey his feelings.

Please note,I only used to watch YR,but GH is my no.1 now.Always watch YR first then GH,just to savour it's delights!! Smile Smile Smile

I disagree with Brandon Barash(he can't really act.) And I'm not feeling Sean Kanan's acting on GH, he's being helped by stronger performers and a well written story, but he needs to do better. Other than this two, it's a great list.

I'm worried about Doug Davidson's job now that JFP is the house.

Who on earth comes up with these lists!? Michael Muhney definitely should have been on this list. IMO he should have been number 1 but he at least deserves to be in the top 3.

Do they get ad revenue paid per click on this site? Just wondering because I can never find a simple listing that would just have everyone on one page (even if just the names). Impairments make it difficult to view.

Jason T. was just awesome this past year during Robin's death. With Jonathan Jasckson off the show I hope Jason wins the best supporting Emmy this year. He deserves it. Love Roger Howarth!!! His way with comdedy, the ad-libbing, the facial looks, he makes me laugh. And Michael Easton, love how he plays John McBain. They are actually copyng the character on Y &R, but Easton is the best. All the guys are nice to look at also!

Michael Muhney is a greatly overrated actor. He is not bad but he is not the second coming. He is average and mediocre. Michael Muhney has literally made Adam into his own by injecting the same narcissism and self-absorbment into Adam as he himself has. He is basically playing himself. Furthermore, one big problem with Y&R is how they are forcing Adam front-and-center into a ridiculous triangle, in which no participant is root-worthy.

I liked Adam the best when he was the town piranha last spring and really had to look depe inside himself not to fall back into his old pattern. That's also when he met Chelsea, another cast-off grifter. I loved their romance because it was so organic. It made perfect sense for these two to start as friends and slowly fall in love. And even the nuptials were beautiful and understated. Adam rejecting Sharon in Kansas was icing on the cake! That was hte Adam I really liked - the one that had root-worthiness.

But then they made Chelsea pregnant, and slowly Adam started to get pompous again. He bought his way into TG and bullied Kevin and Chloe around. And now all the mess with Sharon and NE. I don't like this Adam at all, and it doesn't help he is showed down the viewers throats.

Muhney is a bad actor, IMO. Most of the buzz involves his 24/7 PR and less about his talents. Did anyone see his crying scenes?

I'm no fan of Muhney, he can only play creepy or smug, the man has no range. The crying scene over Chelsea's dead baby was laughably bad.

I don't watch Y&R but I know the actors and characters. I agree that Billy Miller probably should have been included in the list. He is an outstanding actor but since I do not watch Y&R, not sure if he had any good material this year that would put him on this list.

Happy to see Jerry ver Dorn on this list. As a GL viewer I liked him on the show but never was that big of a Ross fan once he became a good guy but he knocked it out the park as Clint and I was a major Clint Ritchie fan who was not sure if JVD could pull it off.
I was really hoping to see him pop up on GH for a short term storyline involving McBain and Natalie's custody fight just to see him mix it up with his former GL leading lady Jane Elliott (she played his crazy split personality having wife). That would have been so much fun.

I personally think Michael Mulhany is a great actor. In real life, he is nothing like the character he plays, I love to watch him.
