DEVASTATING NEWS: Dallas Star Larry Hagman Dead at 81

The entertainment community is reeling from the loss of Larry Hagman. He was 81. The legendary I Dream of Jeannie and Dallas actor died Friday at Medical City Dallas Hospital. He had been battling cancer. Said a family spokesperson:

“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” the family said in a statement. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.”

In 2011, Hagman reprised the iconic role of J.R. Ewing for TNT's summer 2012 continuation of Dallas. Co-stars Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) and Patrick Duffy (Bobby) were reportedly at his deathbed. Hagman had recently been filming Season 2 of Dallas, which is slated to air on TNT in January 2013.

While reading the obituary of Larry Martin Hagman in the New York Times this morning, I read one quote of his, taken from an interview he did in 1980, which I found to be apt and incredibly beautiful:

“Life is terminal, death is not. I think death is just another stage of our development. I honestly believe that we don’t just disappear. We don’t go into a void. I think we’re part of a big energy curtain, an energy wave, in which we are like molecules.”

R.I.P., Sir.
