10 Soap Opera Politicians Who'd Get Our Vote

No. 7: Grant Harrison, Another World

Dashing, eldest son Grant Harrison (the late Dack Rambo, Mark Pinter) was groomed by his father Spencer (David Hedison) to one day assume the office of President of the United States on Another World. Like many a politician, Grant's love for the ladies almost proved to be his professional undoing.

First there was that sordid ordeal with Sharly, the alternate personality of farm wife Sharlene Hudson (Anna Holbrook); then there was Grant's scandalous involvement with campaign worker (and his brother Ryan's girl!) Vicky Hudson (Jensen Buchanan).

Grant's obsession became even more intense when Vicky bore him a son named Kirkland. Along the way other women caught his eye, Cory sisters Paulina (Judi Evans) and Amanda (Christine Tucci), nutty Cindy (Kim Rhodes), but Grant's desire to possess Vicky and Kirkland remained his constant, driving passion.

The return of Grant and Ryan's (Paul Michael Valley) unhinged mother Justine Kirkland Harrison Duvalier (Victoria Wyndham) added deadly fuel to the inferno that was Grant vs. Vicky and Ryan. Grant ultimately went to prison for killing his baby brother, but don't think a Mark of Cain was enough to keep him down. Once he was sprung, Grant managed to win the race for Bay City's mayor! To think, a simple, stained dress almost took down Bill Clinton.

Umm...I wouldn't vote for any of these characters. I would vote for OLTL's Victoria Lord, GL's Ross Marler and DAYS's Abe Carver!

I, too, thought I mis-read the title, since I would not vote for most of these scoundrels!

I thought that Donna Love Hudson would have made a much better mayor for Bay City than fratricidal psychopath Grant Harrison. She even had the perfect campaign slogan: "All You need is Love!" Besides, she needed a storyline a lot more than Grant did.

I think my favorite part of Dorian winning the job of Llanview's mayor was seeing the somehwat intimidated but awestruck Oliver Fish address her as "Doctor Mayor Dorian Lord" all the time. You'd think Starr would work into her Port Charles conversations that her aunt is a US Senator, but then perhaps she's not one to name-drop.

Knots Landing's Greg Sumner already was a state assemblyman when we met him. He was running for, and ultimately won, the race for US Senate. That was the position (US Senator) he resigned in order to take over what became the Sumner Group. Whatever the case, I am glad he took on the Sumner Group and married Laura because it allowed Laura the ultimate revenge on Abby Ewing: Laura became the richest woman in the cul-de-sac!

The only one of these I'd vote for would be E J Dimera, AND only if I could blackmail him and seduce him into a scorching hot Man-on-Man sexual romp at my beck and call. LOL

Sorry JG. I must have clicked right past Ross. Forgive the oversight. I loved the "Dreamgirls" episode of GL where Ross had a fantasy on election day where he was confronted by some of his past loves and Alan-Michael (Rick Hearst) is scantily-clad!

Love the list! Esoucally E.J. Dorian and Jed! I'd also add Doris Wolfe to the list as an Honourable Mention. I have to represt the LGBT population and as much as I loved that storylinr, Dorian's shame of a marriage to Delphiana's fiancee doesn't count. Smile

The Good Wife, a show with the law and politics engrained is overlooked? Where's my guy Peter Florak. Love him. A reformed politician (remember he was "sort of" wrongfully imprisoned) who's still a little sordid around the edges.
