Katie Suffers Lowest Rated Week Since Talk Show’s Debut

Katie Couric’s talk show Katie continues to decline in the ratings. According to Broadcasting & Cable, Katie dropped six percent in the live plus same day household rating category for the week ending October 7. However, Katie remained atop all  other new talk shows that premiered this season.

Disney-ABC's Katie continues to lead the rookie talkers, but the show had its lowest-rated week yet, dropping 6% to a 1.7 live plus same day household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research, in the week ended Oct. 7.

The ratings struggles for Katie come amid reports executive producer Jeff Zucker is exploring other opportunities. Reportedly, the freshman talk show is already hunting for a replacement.

I say cancel the show and bring back Dynasty or something like it to daytime with that 68 million they are spending on that horrible show. Some people are made to just report the news.

Well after the disaster of the news and now the talk show maybe she can go back and save the Today Show, that's worked for her best so far and they sure could use her on there again!

And ABC, when will you learn that cancelling OLTL was the stupidest thing you've done in a long time? First that mess The Revolution being cancelled and now Katie's show tanking. Soap fans have the last laugh!

I am not surprised Katie is as fake as a $3 bill. I wonder if ABC/D will man up and admit their mistake of cancelling the soaps.

I recall Jamey mentioning that the fate of Katie and GH are linked. How does that work or what's the networks (il)logic for that. I for one am glad that her show isn't doing well, but I am worried that her going down will hasten GH's demise.

I cannot stand Katie, she seems like such a phoney, but that face and grin entrance me so. During all the clips of Obama and Romney at some joke-y fundraiser I could not take my eyes of her, but I cringed at every laugh.

I believe Katie has a two-year deal, but regardless, ABC is never getting that hour back from the affiliates.

I think gh and katie are only tied in the sense that gh has to provide a good lead in for her. If GH has 3 million viewers and then katie bleeds a million away, with only 2 million staying for her show, then I would think it doesnt hurt gh, but if gh has a million viewers and katie has a million then the network could claim that katie would succeed if only it had a better lead in. That would be bad for GH.

I would be interested to see what Jamey thinks.

It seems that ABC is paying a very high price for killing its afternoon soaps line up. AMC and OLTL should never have gotten the axe. Hell, CBS shouldn't have dumped ATWT either. Let's Make A Deal is a train wreck.

Stupid network suits destroy their own franchises.

I dont mind Katie Couric but her show is pretty blah. Again, I wonder why they cancelled OLTL in the first place. First, The Revolution, then Good Afternoon America and now Katie. Yes, soap opera fans are getting the last laugh but what good is it? If they bring back AMC and OLTL, then you can get the last laugh.

I've never been a fan of Katie's and I hope she doesn't come back to the Today show. I'd rather they keep Savannah Guthrie (now that I have learned her name). LOL

It comes down to ABC has spent enough money on flops that has the age group they refused on soaps and counting them on Katie. Why didn't the counts this age group on soaps? The soaps would have been doubled in veiwers. They could have paid for the soaps for years on all there flops. They nighttime wouldn't be hurting as bad.But they have signed a two year contract with someone that is worn out on Tv.ABC is hopeless and the two idiots Iger and Sweeney need to go.There creating a cooking show for nighttime now.Isn't the theif Mario enough? The mn has paid off 3 lawsuits against him and he has a show.Disgusting.and you would think ABC would make him take a bath nd wash that damn greasy hair.He is so fifthy looking and disgusing.

If I wanted to watch a game show or talk show during the day I would...not Katie's mind you...I was never a fan. I want to watch what I've enjoyed watching for more than 3 decades...SOAP OPERAS!

WTH makes ABC think that they can destroy 3 legacy soap operas...and I say 3 because they've turned GH into a crapfest...and that we will somehow thank them and tune in to "Katie"?!?!

ABC can kiss my ass.

GH has done what it needed to do, in terms of provide a solid lead in on ABC for Disney's $80 million investment. It's gonna be up to Katie's team to provide a show that can build on, or even maintain that lead-in.

CAN YOU HEAR US NOW ABC/DISNEY ???? Nothing will work because soap opera fans are the most LOYAL of fans. I will also continue to boycott in the daytime except for GH and also primetime no matter how interesting they look.....MY FAMILY IS NOT ALLOWED TO WATCH ANYTHING ABC !!!! A good business listens to it's customers. The viewers are your customer and you WOULD NOT LISTEN TO US.....Hear us now.

@ Soapybitch - For some reason Jamie supports Katie, but I don't think the fates are linked at all. ABC wanted to use GH as a way of getting ratings for Katie, if it had been successful they wouldn't have thought twice about cancelling GH for another pile of crap. Katie failing is GOOD news for GH fans, ABC can't cancel Katie and GH and the ratings are up significantly on GH in spite of the decline on Katie so there is no way GH is getting cancelled any time soon - it's their only daytime show that's doing well!

Good grief, what did Jamey write to "support" Katie??? He's just reporting the facts.

Some of you are on the verge of being delusional when it comes to the popularity of soaps these days. The ratings are not up significantly on GH, no matter how much we want them to be. Just writing it doesn't make it so. It's burying your head in the sand like this that makes it a big surprise every time a soap gets cancelled. Face it, folks. No one should be surprised anymore. Sorry, but it doesn't do any good to keep deluding yourselves.

What a shock. LOL. She is horrible and so is every single replacement show ABC tries to shove down our throats. They would have been fine if they would have left the soaps on the air. No one wants more talk, news, or reality. Wake up ABC.

Maybe the network will finally see that we, the American viewers, are not nearly as enthralled with Katie as they seem to be. Why she is even still on television in any capacity is more than my pea brain can fathom. I have never found her to honest or trustworthy which are two things anyone in the news field should be. Now that I think of it, she may be a good fit for CNN, they have no idea of the meanting of the words honest or trustworthy. LOL

If this fails, which it looks like it is, I think we will FINALLY see the execs think twice about their failed attempt when cancelling soaps. While it probably was time for both AMC and GL, OTLT and ATWT were cancelled prematurely. Even though maybe two of the four remaining shows are not all that healthy in the ratings, hopefully the networks will think hard and try to make these shows somehow more profitable before axing any more.

The talk show is so overexposed, there really isn't room for one more on any network.

I still think CBS is doing the best job at maintaining its line up, which has the most variety of any of the networks.

I thought Katie was suppose to be interviewing Barack Obama or Mitt Romney or somebody.

Maybe the daytime soaps can get a makeover with a new production format and some fresh writers. Wishful think but I still have hope.
