By Luke Kerr on October 17, 2012

Are you ready for a new cop to hit Genoa City? According to TV Guide, former General Hospital star Ignacio Serricchio (ex-Diego) has landed the role of Alex on The Young and the Restless. Reportedly, the character is “a streetwise undercover officer who comes to Genoa City from the Big Apple with a big secret.”
Serricchio will first air in December.

God knows I loves me some diversity and I like the guy, but again I ask, is ANOTHERRRRR random new character really needed on this show?

Everyone who isn't Kay Chancellor or Jill Abbott was once a "random new character" on this show. It needs new blood.

We don't need a new cop! IMO the show needs to take a long break from crime stories...

This show needs new blood after all the weird characters MAB has introduced. I don't get why people are complaining about that. The Y&R cast needs fixing. And if it means more diversity I'm for it all the more.

We need new blood. As long as they weave them in with the vets it's all good to me.

He can flash his badge at me any day...
Speaking of cops, I canNOT believe how much Michael is compromising his position as DA. First by turning his back to his wife's misdeeds in purchasing another gun and in willfully turning his back on the fact that Ronan destroyed evidence.

I think he has to do with the new 20-something "Ariana" that was just cast. It mentioned she had a brother...
Also they are both from New York City? The place Noah left and refuses to talk about.
I smell a connection!

I think this new character Alex's secret is that maybe he had a gay relationship with Noah Newman when they were both in NYC!

Good looking...and I think that Noah will be the entrance for the Latinos. Hopefully this is not a retread of Chloe and Billy. We know how writers like to retread their own SLs.
If Y&R is going to make characters gay, I wish they would just hire gay actors to do it.
Also, if he ain't gay, I wonder how long it will take Phyllis to be sleeping with him. Still mad that they wasted Ronan on her.

So this is gonna be an all-male show? They have not fired one man, yet they are bringing in new men.
If this were a gay thing, I'd be over the moon lol

Two men to every woman...I like those odds. Every woman on the show can have 2/3 men fighting over her at once. I like it!

Yes, producers should only hire gay people to play gay characters! And only straight to play straight! And they should only hire real lawyers to play lawyers! They should scan the prisons for murderers to play murderers and real crazy people should be the only ones to play crazy characters. In fact, isn't Jeanne Cooper a business tycoon zillionaire in real life? Isn't Christian LeBlanc a star attorney who really wanted to be on tv?
The other option is that they could hire ACTORS to ACT.

P.S. I'd be thrilled with gay characters on Y&R. Especially under the control of Josh Griffiths, the stories could be amazing.

In this genre people make this big to do about "sexual chemistry" in romantic pairings...well, if you aren't sexually attracted to other men then how is the chemistry suppose to be there. That was my point. WHen I see two folks kissing I want it to look like they are ENJOYING it.

Aside from all the comments above my issue is also why are we adding new characters so quickly when a LOT of people were complaining the cast needed to be paired down and everyone was cheering when the cuts were announced? Doesn't make sense.
I love the diversity issue and get it, but let's get the CURRENT cast and stories refocused before parading the newbies on.
Can't have it both ways. IMO.

Agreed. I'm all for having hot guys on the show. And I don't even care if their acting is not Peter Bregman-level, but let's have a cast that's of a manageable size and keep the stories focussed.

Thank you Jamey! This show does need new blood. And before everyone gets all "Oh noes, ANOTHER new character" about it - this detective is most likely related to Noah's sudden decision to return to GC for good after years of flip flopping between GC and NYC the last couple of years. Maybe Noah is escaping something that happened in New York - just a thought. The "Alex" character may not even stay beyond whatever story arc he is tied to, but if he fits the show, he might stay. Bill Bell did that all the time with characters like Victor, Michael, Phyllis, etc. Those characters were originally slated for one story arc, but they stayed and became A-story characters due to popularity with viewers. There's also Bill Bell characters like Lisa (forget her last name) and David Kimble that lasted an arc or two and went off the canvas. So who knows what the game plan is for this detective. I just hope he doesn't come to GC with insta-connections to several existing characters and is propped as the regime's shiny new toy [/shade]
You know, I can't understand my fellow Y&R viewers that complained about the last few regimes but balk at every single change that is being made, no matter how big or small. How can the show get better if everything stays the same and the same 5 characters get bounced from arc to arc?

That doesn't make any sense.
How is it that all the actors that have played gay couples have made some into very popular couples, who most definitely, have chemistry? Nuke, Kish, Wilson, Klaine, etc. The list goes on. The actors playing these parts weren't gay (at least most of them).
And turning it around, by that same a logic an actor who is gay, shouldn't be able to have chemistry with their woman counterpart. Yet, we have MANY examples of this.

Can I say that I enjoy looking at this picture? That is all.
Okay, maybe I'd just add that I'm going to reserve judgement on this show's moves for awhile (1 or 2 months) to see how it all shakes out.
I know there's another cast purge to come so...

I guess that I am confused as well.
There is a LOT of complaining by people who take different sides depending on the day.
The majority of people on here seemed to complain that the cast was too big, but then are happy to hear we have three new characters in two days.
So which is it? It sounds like complaining just to complain.
I didn't mind MAB as much as most of here, but was very dissatisfied with a lot of the writing she crammed onto the screen. Other than that, I had no issues. LML was crap. And I can provide many examples of things outside the writing that I didn't like.
I think Josh will improve the writing, but I don't want a lot of new characters when the old ones needs "fixing" first.
This seems to be the same old story when a new producer and writer come in...they SAY they are going to refocus the show, and then immediately cut the cast and introduce new characters the fans don't care about.

But if a new character is supporting an existing character that is in the process of either concluding previous arcs or may be a vehicle to "fix" the character, then what's the problem?
I don't know what SL this new character will be bringing. But if it gives a character like Noah Newman (a legacy character) some real story instead of returning and then leaving GC every few months, then I'm all for it. But I'm not going to assume that every bit of casting news is a new character destined to eat the show. I'm reserving judgment until I see what this Alex character is all about.
I just remember some having a fit about Uncle Phil being cast as the judge, when he's only been used as a plot mover. Namely, to end the Phyllis court storyline and he will likely be the judge that hears Paul's case for Ricky's murder. After that, we'll probably never see that judge again.

Just because a couple is popular doesn't mean that they had sexual chesmitry (Chelsea and Adam on Y&R as we speak). Sometimes folks like a couple for other reasons. As a matter of fact, most gay couples on soaps don't get love scenes and rarely kiss. The only gay pairing that I am familiar with is Noah/Luke and Natalia/Olivia. And they were barely affectionate. So please, spare the listing of all these popular gay couples. You and I both know that they don't get the same treatment as heterosexual couples...and certianly not popular heterosexual couples when it comes to love scenes.
I stand by my opinion on this one.

Most of the time when a new character is brought on it is to give SL to the core characters. The problem for me arises when the character comes on and everyone else is his supporting because the story is all about him, i.e. Stephen Nichols' Tucker. I like SN and Tucker but really...

Well Darlotto99, then you can find yourself a show that doesn't have a gay character on it if you don't want any gay characters. It just leaves one less POTENTIAL (noticed I stressed that word since I don't know for sure if you are a homophobe or not) homophobe watching Y&R and not getting the necessary education that one should have about diversity and how other people live.
Just sayin'.
