Today Pre-Empts 9/11 Moment of Silence For Interview About Kris Jenner’s Breast Implants

In what may be the most shameful example of corporate synergy in recent memory, NBC’s Today Show decided to pre-empt the moment of silence honoring September 11 World Trade Center victims by featuring an interview with E! star Kris Jenner. The segment featured a titillating discussion about the importance of removing old breast implants between Jenner and Savannah Guthrie.
New York Magazine has compiled a devastating side-by-side clip of Today talking about Jenner’s oh-so-important boobs. Just as every other news network paused for the moment of silence.
Today is still struggling against Good Morning America in the ratings after the Olympics. It also replaced Ann Curry because her passion was for international stories and not cooking segments or celebrity interviews. However if you ask me, on the anniversary of September 11, Today needed more Curry and a lot less Kardashian.
According to TV Newser, WNBC in New York broke into the national feed to carry locally-produced special coverage which included the moment of silence. The AP reports that NBC aired the moment of silence for the West Coast.

I think this is a perfect example of why Daytime TV has gone to hell. If they thought that was what their audience wanted, they got it. I can't wait to see what happens to Y and R.

Let's see, this summer's NBC Olympic coverage cutaway from a remembrance of those massacred at the 1972 Munich Games for a Ryan Seacrest interview with Michael Phelps. They edited out part of the Rock Center interview Bob Costas did with Jerry Sandusky where the pedophile pretty much admitted having sex with one of his victims. Now, they slap everyone in the face on the solemn anniversary of 9/11.
I'm surprised Matt didn't issue a statement blaming Ann Curry.

This is disgusting, MSNBC did do a moment of silence and showed the whole day it happened on Today back 9/11/01.

Gord, it wasn't the 72 Munich Olympics tribute; it was a tribute to the victims of the 2005 7/7 London bombings that killed 52 people:

Nothing NBC or MSNBC does would surprise me. But you can bet your sweet ass if a soap were on they would have NO problem interrupting if there was a traffic jam!

I've never watched a Kardashian show, nor have I ever bought anything they're selling, so I'm not one of the "everyone" to which sillytee refers! And frankly, I don't know why they are considered such a wild success in the first place! Their shows rarely get 3 million viewers, so it's not as though everyone is glued to their garbage whenever it's on. I don't know anyone who defends them, either on message boards or in my life. Their success truly mystifies me.

TV Gord - I believe that they are a guilty pleasure. Their show doesn't get huge ratings, but they sadly have a brand. They are trendsetters, people talk about them, and frankly...they have taken over the E! channel. I liken them to porn. Everyone bashes and hates porn, yet porn is a multi-billion dollar industry. Somebody is watching.
That being said, it is such a shame that NBC believed that even Kardashian fans would rather watch that, than memorialize an important part of our history. Somebody at the top made that choice. That is sad.

The Today show has become a joke.Watching the clip of the side-by-side shows show how bad this really was.And what a lame excuse, that they had done programming on the show about 9/11.The time of the first attack is the most important reminder.I use to like Savannah, but,if she did not protest this move and refuse to do it,she is no better than the rest. What a disgrace.

Nothing would ever send me over to Fox and Friends or Fox news. I can't get past 10 minutes of any of their shows. No thanks.
In the morning I watch Morning Joe and CBS morning. I am not into the nonsense stuff of ABC, NBC in the morning. Who cares?
I still don't see what Matt 25 million or Kelly R 20 million do to earn that kind of money. Kelly R acts like an idiot.
Oh I forgot the topic. Long story short, I think NBC used terrible judgment. Personally it is not an issue for me but I know for many it adds fuel to the fire.

I read an article on HP and according to them, NBC made a statement that they have not acknowledged the moment of silence since 2006. Last year apparently was an exception. Quote from the article is below.
""Today" told the Times that honoring the moment of silence is "not a tradition" on the NBC morning show. By exception of last year when the network dedicated the program to the 10-year anniversary of the attacks, "Today" has not observed a moment of silence during its shows on 9/11 since 2006."

Interesting comment from NBC, thecourt99. If that's the case, I wonder why NBC backtracked yesterday and included the moment of silence for the west coast version of Today. Methinks they realized there was egg on their face.
I guess I never watch Today. I always watch the moments of silence, every year. I'm probably on CNN, though... Yesterday, I watched ABC.

I would rather plunge a barbecue fork into both eyesockets than watch the know-nothing, Republican-talkingpoints-spouting bobble-heads at Fox News and its Teabagging Friends.
So I guess that still leaves me with GMA and CBS This Morning.

Once again (and it bears repeating), let me pile on with the love for CBS This Morning. In such a short period of time, it has become THE class act of morning news programs: exceedingly well-produced, entertaining but no-nonsense, respectful of the viewing audiences' intelligence, great stories, lengthy interviews with really interesting guests and Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell (miss Erica Hill, though) are simply the best team out there right now. Also, the companion mobile apps (iOS) are among the best of class on the go.
