Could Today's Episode of General Hospital be John Ingle's Last as Edward Quartermaine?
By Luke Kerr on September 11, 2012

If you’re a fan of General Hospital’s John Ingle and Edward Quartermaine you’re going to want to tune in for today’s show. General Hospital head writer Ron Carlivati tweeted a pictured from today’s show with this message to fans.
Carlivati’s post came just hours after an early morning tweet by former GH scribe Michele Val Jean alerting fans it could be Ingle's last appearance.

I pray not. I just adore him and the dysfunctional Q family he stands for...

Oh God I hope not but I'm being realistic.
He and Jane Elliot will bring it I'm sure. As they always do.
Sniff.

I love John Ingle and I will miss him greatly but nothing is forever. Today's episode will be hard for me to watch knowing it might be his last appearance.

Best wishes to John Ingle for a recovery and some comfort in his time of infirmity.
With Ingle's predicted absence, "The Death of Edward Quartermaine" could be an absolutely amazing umbrella storyline for GH to bring back old faces and repopulate the Q mansion.

Anytime Tracy calls Edward "Daddy" it just gets to me.
All I have to say kids.

I love John Ingle. It would be so sad if this is his last appearance on the show.
I hope he gets better very soon and finds the strength to return to the show. GH without Edward Quartermaine and John Ingle wouldn't be the same.

While I wish John Ingle the best, it is time to kill off Edward Quartermaine. The character should be at least 100 years old by now.
He has the opposite of SORAS... SOSAS-soap opera slow aging syndrome.

I guess I'm the only one that finds the part of Michele's tweet which hints that the man is at death's door to be in poor taste.

I just saw the last scene with Edward Quartermine. Hopefully, this isnt his last go around. It shouldnt be although, not to be mean, but he looked kind of frail today. Even though, if he can still act, all power to him. He should continue to act.

I wasn't sure if he was made up to look frail or if he is failing. We do not know for sure. Don't forget they made him up for scene. Basically he was choosing to give life to the young girl. It was a tear jerker for sure. No matter what his age is, he is still an actor. Cream of the crop. I am choosing to assume he was playing a part. I guess only time will give everyone those answers.

The scenes today with Edward were heart breaking. I know this is probably John's final appearance on GH and I will really miss him and the curmudgeonly but sweet Edward Q. I wish him all the best in his retirement. God speed.

The scenes with Edward Q. were sooo sad. When he said "I love you too" back to Tracy it cut straight to my heart. I didn't know John Ingle was so sick, but I'm guessing the death of his wife hit him hard. I don't think his fragile state was a put-on either, due to the lack of lines he had. And to me it seemed he was saying "I love you too" to us the audience as well. It's so hard to say goodbye to a staple of a show we have all loved to watch for so many years. Even when you hated Edward you still loved him, just like the other Qs. Not to belabor a point we all know, but Alan should've been there to console his father with loving words. Love you Edward and John.

aww i hope today isnt the last. If they are going to have edward pass, i hope that alan is there to great him on the other side and that he tells edward that lila is waiting. Hoping JI finds strength and health in his retirement. I am grateful for all of the wonderful performances he gave the viewers over the years.

My heart broke seeing him today.. Even with just one line I cried like a baby.Just thinking of it and Im crying. I loved Tracy's Daddy speech. I don't want to spoil anything but the interaction between him and Patrick in the end was just really powerful. It is funny how you can come to love characters and actors so much they don't even need words to get to you. I thank him for all his time on the show- I hope to see him again!! I will always remember him in his cool hats..

On a side note- whoever was responsible for dismantling the Q family- well piss on you for it.. Today I should have seen Alan, AJ, Justus, Emily, Ned, Lois, and Dillion. For good measure give me Georgie. Without naming or blaming air hogs I have had characters that added such heart to the show written out or killed off.. I want them back- the Q's I grew up with.. I want to see family fighting on Tday over pizza.. Sorry- end rant!!

The Emma touch was perfect. Had me in tears, but I thought it was totally in character for Edward to have done what he did (and for Tracy to do what SHE did,
)And, not that I want him to be written off, but if he wants to retire do to illness, then they should do it so that an ending can be done. Also, RIP Cook! At least it wasn't Alice!

I don't believe it was for the show, even his voice sounded frail. My heart was breaking as I watched him. Definitely a tear jerker today and if today was his last appearance, I wish JI a lot of love and peace. I just wanted to hug him.

John Ingle didn't say a lot with words today but he said a lot in other ways. I hope this isn't the last we will see of him. He and Jane Elliot were wonderful. Just as I expected.

God Bless you John Ingles! I was so shocked when I saw how frail he looked, even though I read he has been ill. I just Loved the scene between him and Tracy, made me cry. and him giving the sign up to Patrick and Emma. A beautiful scene, thank you Ron C.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be pretty tacky for GH showrunners to ask this sick man to act his characters death while he is this ill? I am hoping they didn't do that and Edward survives this storyline. I also wish for some Edward Jason time. They are both at the hospital. So, please let Edward survive.
