Freddie Smith on How DAYS' Gay Bullying Story Will Differ: "We're Showing Both Sides of It'
Could some of our fears about seeing yet another tried and true gay bullying story on soaps be unfounded? Freddie Smith, who plays Sonny on Days of Our Lives, seems to think so.
In an interview previewing his character's upcoming gay bashing at the hands of "T" (Brendan Coughlin), Smith explained why this bullying saga will be different from those before it. Said Smith:
"We're showing both sides of it. We'll see where Sonny is coming from, and where the bully is coming from. It'll be great to see people grow and mature."
I am going to do my best not to judge this story too soon. Spoilers of Will (Chandler Massey) having sex with Gabi (Camila Banus) and nice, friendly Sonny catching a beat down from a character we haven't seen in a year—all before he and/or Will have been on so much as real, on screen date with a guy—definitely has me cautious. However, I will try to let it play out for a bit before being too reactionary.
Do you think DAYS will do a good job with their gay bullying storyline? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
