Wishful Casting: Hollywood Heights' Robert Adamson as Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless
Kevin G. Schmidt has all but revealed The Young and the Restless is recasting his role yet again. While I hate to see anyone lose a gig, I can't help but think about all the possibilities an edgier Noah Newman would provide the series.
I think new Y&R executive producer Jill Farren Phelps should look no further than the cast of her fun, limited-run, Nick-at-Nite sudser Hollywood Heights to fill the role of the Newman heir. While the younger-skewing Hollywood Heights boasts several talented, hunky, young guys who would potentially fit well in Genoa City, my money is on Robert Adamson.
Adamson plays sexy, rule-breaker Phil Sanders on the English-language telenovela. In case the above pictures don't illustrate the point well enough, Adamson could almost be a younger doppelganger for Joshua Morrow, who plays Noah's dad Nick Newman on Y&R.
Imagine Adamson's version of Noah clashing with his dad — who decides it's time Noah gave up his musical pipe dreams and came to work for Newman Enterprises. Meanwhile, a rebellious Noah turns to his Uncle Adam (Michael Muhney) for the funds to keep his and Devon's (Bryton James) desires of becoming the next Timberlake and Timbaland a reality.
Even better, while newly-employed at Newman Enterprises, Noah is assigned to a project promoting an exclusive cosmetics tie-in with Fenmore's. While working closely with the upscale chain's CEO, Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), he develops a thing for her!
Weeks of steamy flirtation and inappropriate fantasies explode into a secret, erotically-charged, May/December affair between a neglected Lauren and Noah — setting Genoa City ablaze! Maybe Lauren's teenage son, Fen could be the one to walk in on Noah, a guy not much older than him, nailing his mother on her desk? Heck, for good measure, why not have Fen crushing on Noah at the time? How will the lad ever be able to forgive his mother for screwing around on his dad, with the man of his adolescent dreams?
This kind of raunchy, classically sudsy arc would also provide Bregman and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) their first juicy storyline in years. Finding out Lauren is cheating on him could take Michael back to the brink of insanity, causing him to use his newfound power as district attorney to go after his old friend Victor's (Eric Braeden) grandson.
Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Sharon (Sharon Case) would potentially find their first stretch of common ground since Cassie died, due to their mutual disgust at Lauren and Noah's antics. Of course, Noah would have to point out to his ex-stripper granny and klepto tramp mother that neither is in a good place to throw stones (or perfume bottles) at Lauren. Noah's shameless hound of a grandfather, Victor would likely chuckle and present the boy with a box of Cuban cigars when he finds out about the affair.
Y&R is solid when it comes to representing the next generation of Abbotts, thanks to Marcy Rylan (Abby) and Blake Hood (Kyle), but the serial needs a sexy-as-hell badass to take the Newman dynasty into the next generation. I think Adamson is the right man for the job!
