The Bold and the Beautiful's Brad Bell Reacts to Ronn Moss' Exit: "It Came Out of The Blue"

Was The Bold and the Beautiful showrunner Brad Bell just as stunned as fans when he learned of Ronn Moss' (Ridge) decision to quit the serial? That's what the Hollywood scion told TV Guide's Michael Logan.
TV Guide Magazine: It's long been a point of pride that you've been able to hang on to B&B's original core four — Katherine Kelly Lang [Brooke], Susan Flannery [Stephanie], John McCook [Eric Forrester] and Ronn Moss. So how big a blow is this?
Bell: It's huge. And it came out of the blue. I only found out last Thursday [Aug. 9] about Ronn's decision not to renew. So I'm very sad but also very grateful for the 25 years we did have with him. Ronn is a wonderful man and a great actor and he'll be sorely missed.
Following a bit of prodding from Logan, Bell went on to admit he had a contingency plan in place, should Moss—who was in contract negotiations—have decided not to renew. Said Bell:
Well, I did have a plan in place because when it's contract time you have to be prepared. It's always possible things won't work out but I did not think Ronn's departure was probable.
To find out just exactly what Bell's post-Ridge plan for B&B is, if he will recast, how all of this will impact the character of Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and if Scott Clifton (Liam) supplanting Moss as the serial's leading man played a role in his decision to leave, click here!

Ronn Moss is a "great" actor?!! Good gawd what are these people smoking?!

RebeccaJ,
I agree, Ronn is not a "great" actor, more like mediocre. As for Brad Bell, he was smart to have a contingency plan in place in case the contract negotiations fell through. He's been in this business for a very long time and he knows to NOT get caught with his proverbial pants down should a major character such as Ridge Forrester end up leaving the B&B canvas. But I am surprised that he did not see Ronn Moss' leaving coming. He had to have known that there was a distinct possibility that Ronn could end up leaving. So, for him to say that this was "out of the blue" is a bit of an exaggeration on his part.
I guess we'll find out in a few days (or however long he decides to take) when Ronn releases an official statement as to why he decided to leave the show and what the tipping point was for him.

And again I have to wonder about Brad Bell.
So he plans to just write Ridge out!? He would even recast the role? If you have a departure like Ronn Moss, who has been the lead of this show for 25 years, you don't just write the character out. I thought Brad Bell would go with the presumed death card. It would have been so easy and THIS would have made for great story for everyone involved. Stephanie and Eric, Ridge's women and his children.
Instead he wants to write the character out ... as I understand after Ridge and Brooke's honeymoon. And then he wants to bring on a new man for Brooke?
Not that I mind ... but it sounds insane and does not sound fair to the Bridge fans. Bell basically just announced with this interview that Ridge walks out on his marriage and his work on FC.
If you have better chances at making this storyline work, no sorry Mr. Bell, I won't give you the benefit of the doubt.
I don't know what's been going on with Brad Bell for the last couple of years, but the man clearly lost his touch to great storytelling. He does it once a year for the Emmys and that's it. Brad is going to piss off a lot of people yet again.

Brad Bell is an idiot right now. He has three possible scenarios and he chooses the worst. Writing Ridge of the canvas with some lame excuse is not what the fans want. We want closure, we want some new beginnings and some fresh ideas. This was the time to do finally do it. Ronn Moss gave him an easy way out, but Brad chooses the rough path.
SO Brooke gets a new man, thats good. I look forward to that one. A new guy could give so much possibilities, even if its not Nick or Deacon. If they do come back to save Brooke from her sort of depression then that would be great. But there are more options. The only problem is, the fact that Ridge is lurking behind the corner to step in, is not a wise choiche at all.
The Forresters are not a very big part of the show, and after SF leaves, he could very well forget about them all together. The Spencers and The Logans are very solid and have enough story to tell for the next five years. The Forrester name is an important one for the soap,so he could have kept that, with Eric in some kind of designer/advising position for his son Rick but besides that the forrester characters are not important anymore. This is not 1988 where everything involved the Forresters. And yes we still have some forresters in Thomas and Steffy, and thats good, but they are not going to be the groundwork for the next 10/15 years. I think the characters of Bill and Brooke do that and their families.

Admittedly, I haven't really watched Bold/Beautiful since the late 90's, so I'm not as devastated as Ridge/Logan/Doc's fans. I don't want to step on anyone's mourning period here, but I'm kind of excited about the "Wishful Casting"! Brad says he has some "interesting" ideas for a recast, what do DC folks think?
A few names that come to my mind:
- Grayson McCouch (would definitely be a younger re-cast, but his was the first name that came to mind)
- Rick Hearst (I would LOVE to see him on Soaps again, but we've already seen him as Whip on B&B)
- Peter Reckell (same age range, even more sex appeal...don't know if he can pull off wealthy scion as well as blue-collar hero)
- Marc Derwin (never thought he was the sexiest guy, even as Mallet, but he's definitely a strong actor)
- Tuc Watkins (not sure how well he could pull of brooding and serious, but he could make Ridge a more charming character)
-James De Paiva (another great actor that needs to be back on Soaps, ASAP)
Any other ideas, folks? Or do we wanna stretch outside of the soap world?

Ok, after reading the interview with Bell, I know the show is just waiting for RM to change his mind. Which pisses me off.
Sure, give Brooke a new man "like that's something new" and then here comes Ridge riding his black horse YET AGAIN!
Oh sure Bell, new opportunities!!
And I've got an Ocean here in Ohio I'll sale ya!!

So Ridge/Brooke are going to go on a honeymoon and then Ridge just not return..........*blank stare* ok then.
This leads me to believe that Brad Bell thinks Ronn Moss will change his mind and return. I don't think he expects him to be gone long. I guess we will have to wait and see. I'm not sure I would have written it as Ridge/Brooke getting married but oh well.

So sounds like Brad Bell is going to pull a Chris Goutman and recast Ridge out of spite. Either that or, Brad think Ronn is going to "come to his senses" and return shortly. I think this plan Brad has laid out has "Fail" written all over it. I don't even like Ridge, but he's one of those handful of characters you can't recast. Brad should have killed off Ridge instead, which would have made for a great catalyst to "reboot" B&B.

WHAT! Brad Bell, have you lost ALL your marbles???
You're going to RECAST RIDGE EFFIN FORRESTER? Are you out of your mind?
Heck, why don't you just recast Stephanie while your at it. What a disgrace...
"Hopefully, they'll cut me a little dramatic license."
So it's gonna be a horrible storyline. Guess we should be grateful he is preparing us.

This is NOT a plan Brad. You're totally right, the fans will say "Ridge would never do that" - and they're right!!! Umm, word to the wise: When someone is acting totally out of character - it is NOT a good storyline.
Geez, I haven't read this much drivel and BS since Maria's farewell speech on facebook.

He should've stopped at "wonderful man." Even his fans know he's not a "great actor."

This reminds me of when there was talk of recasting J.R. Ewing right at the height of the "Who Shot J.R.?" cliffhanger, except this time, Bell is holding all the cards. Moss is never going to get a better deal in today's economic climate for soaps. It sounds as though he'll just end up taking a sabbatical and he'll be back in six months or a year with his tail (scarf) between his legs.

I have to say VI/David Heyward would be a natural on GH. He's already got a past with Anna and it would swing more of the storyline back to the hospital. I agree, EET, he and Alexis would be smokin' hot!

Im not sure I want him as David Hayward UNLESS they totally ignore the whole craptastic Project Orafice storyline but they could make him a brand new doc that just happens to have chem with anna and alexis.
ldylkng...i just find brooke insufferable - she reminds me of liz with the whole breathy breathy helpless stuff so the idea of having to watch the amazing VI saddled with that just drives me bonkers LOL.

It would be weird to have VI on as anyone else, considering he was married to Anna.

EEt, Totally agree about Brooke, and honestly wish she would just fly away with her NEW husband to start their new life anywhere but LA. Haven't liked her since they tried her with Eric. The Brooke & Ridge show has been dead to me for over 10 yrs.
