Greg Rikaart Blogs About 'Bullies' Melissa Reeves and Chick-fil-A COO Dan Cathy for Huffington Post

The Young and the Restless star Greg Rikaart (Kevin) is continuing to drive home the point that issues surrounding support of Chick-fil-A's recent "Appreciation Day" had little to do with free speech, and a whole lot to do with sanctioning and cloaking bigotry. The passionate actor blogged for The Huffington Post about his recent tweet to fellow Sony TV soap star, Melissa Reeves (Jennifer, Days of Our Lives), who had previously tweeted her support of Chick-fil-A. Below are a few excerpts.
On what the Chick-fil-A debate is really about:
The media blitz surrounding Chick-fil-A isn't about chicken sandwiches or Dan Cathy's First Amendment right to speak his mind. Mr. Cathy's company has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which publicly denounces the "impure lifestyle" of the LGBT community.
Furthermore, this company donated money to the Family Research Council, which supports the criminalization of homosexuality and states on their website that they oppose efforts for homosexuals to have equal rights. Can you even imagine -- your neighbor, your friend, your sibling or your child being criminalized for being who they are?
On what Chick-fil-A COO Dan Cathy's statement of support for "traditional marriage" and Reeves' Twitter co-signing mean for struggling LGBT kids:
Whether grown up bullies like Dan Cathy and Melissa Reeves realize it or not, they are directly or indirectly telling these vulnerable kids that there is something wrong with them, or they are somehow less than. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm certain of it.

I have such respect for Greg for doing this and not staying quiet and making it clear that this really isn't a 'freedom of speech' debate. If only there were more like him to do the same.

Thank you Mr. Rikaart, pretty awesome how a few encouraging words from someone I watch everyday can immediately make me feel a little less hated and somehow make me feel proud to be who I am. I've never been so disgusted by someone working in daytime than Mrs. Reeves, if ever there was a need to write someone off, this would be that time NBC.

I'm with Rikaart 100%... but damn Jamey, you used the most butt ugly picture of Melissa Reeves you could find, didn't you? Cold.

Ugh I wish people would just stop talking about Chik Fil A because honestly this is just giving them more publicity and making them relevant which is giving them more business when the intent is for the opposite.

My crush keeps getting bigger and bigger!!! I applaud Greg's very thoughtful and intelligent article on Huffington Post and for taking the stand of being open to all views but expressing that not every view is right.
As a gay man I am proud to be proud of Greg in his stance on this issue and for both Greg and Daytime COnfidential, Huffington Post and others for taking a stand.
I wonder where Anderson Cooper is with this issue and why, why I haven't seen Melissa Reeves on his RIDICULOUSLIST yet.

Congratulations Mr. Rikaart. I'm not a Y&R viewer but I do appreciate your words. Now, we don't have Chick-fil-A up here in Canada (or at least in these parts of Atlantic Canada), so even if it were an option of junkfood, they wouldn't be gettiny my money.

To quote Nancy Lee Grahn's Twitter post... Greg Rikaart is my hero!

Miss Reeves -- like so many religious bigots these days -- is a Grade A Hypocrite. How dare she imply that gay people in loving committed relationships shouldn't be allowed to get married when she was hunching with Jason Brooks while married to Scott Reeves.
Yo Mel, the Ten Commandments don't say nothing about two men kissing, but they do mention adultery, so chik that in your fil-a.

Melissa Reeves deserves to be off our screens, so she can go spew her bigotry where someone gives a damn. And she should take her idiot, bad actor husband with her.

I beieve that Melissa Reeves has as much right to her views as everybody else. Mr. Rikaart can say what he pleases as well. It doesn't matter that he's wrong. Just because people don't believe in his views doesn' mean that they are homophobic or bigoted. Homosexuality is a sin and people can cry all they want but it doesn't change anything. Sodom and Gomorra were destroyed because of homosexuality and 2000 years later it is still sin. I am proud that Melissa Reeves had the courage to stand up and speak her beliefs. I wish other stars were as courageous as she is.

Yes, hypocritical fundamentalist bigots like Melissa Reeves have a right to their views. But if they had their way, we'd live in a culture where none of us who disagree would have a right to OUR views. Greg Rikaart's statement is wonderful. And a reminder that all of us should speak out for LGBT rights and every other aspect of social justice.

And you need to look up the definition of homophobic, it is right in the diccionary next to your picture!

I'm gay and I am 100% in favor of same-sex marriage, but I hate what seems like witch-hunting against anyone who disagrees.
For crying out loud, let Melissa Reeves have her own opinion and then ignore her. Why is it that the left can't just say the people who disagree with them are wrong; why do you have to say they are EVIL and must be destroyed?

Gregg Rikart is a liberal, anti-Christian jackass disguised as some kind of anti-hate crusader. He pretends to be an objective commentator but his attack on scripture proves his anti-Christian bias.
I went confronted him on twitter. He was a smart ass jerk, but who cares? This issues is first and foremost about freedom of speech. But it goes beyond that to freedom of religion.
According to bible-based Christianity homosexuality is an impure and perverted lifestyle. Scripture doesnt mince words about it. Melissa Reeves on the other hand isnt standing up at some podium preaching down gays ( although that is her right in a religiously free country). I am sick to death of the left and all the liberal soap press and soap viewers ( some who claim themselves to be Christians) attacking her because they are afraid to stand up for biblical values today.
I will support her to the bitter end.
Ironically despite my Christian views for me this is more about free speech. I would stand just as strongly for those on the left when they are censored by the church for espousing their liberal views on homosexuality. This is America. The founding fathers came her seeking freedom to worship as they chose.
This entire issue makes me want to vomit profusely. I support you Melissa. God bless you for having the courage to stand up and be counted. And it doesnt surprise me that a liberal media outlet like daytime confidential would attack traditional moral, conservatives values. Its a sad day in America when we cant agree to disagree and learn tolerance for differing points of view. SMH.
