General Hospital's Frank Valentini: Liason’s Love is “Eternal”, JaSam’s “Is a Bit More on Fire”

The rivalry between General Hospital’s Liason and JaSam has kept message boards and soap sites (like this one) hopping for years, but what does executive producer Frank Valentini think of the two popular couples? Access Hollywood asked Valentini at the ABC party for the TCA Summer Tour. Said Valentini:
“Yes, we’re obviously exploring that… Becky and Steve are just magnetic,” Frank told Access. “And it’s a different kind of love, it’s a friendship love, it’s an eternal love. It has so many prongs to it that’s interesting for the writers to write. And also, on the flip side, Jason and Sam have the same kind of thing — their love is a little bit more on fire.”

I think the key word here is FRIENDSHIP. with Sam jason has PASSION. Fire = chemistry. Jason will ALWAYS love liz as a friend and as a person but he will always be IN LOVE with Sam.

I find the key word to be ETERNAL...all true and lasting love is based on friendship. Fire and passion is what peters out in relationships and in the end what are you left with...YUP FRIENDSHIP
I believe Jason will always love both of these women...but while Passion (sex) is great a couple doesn't spend 80 years together in bed (though I might if I had a hottie like BB).

The best marriages...the ones that stand the test of time....are the ones based on friendship. That's what gets the couple through the hard times when passion isn't enough. And as for passion...I think the NOP when Jake was conceived was passionate enough to get the Gold Medal from Soap Net for the steamiest seduction, right?

I agree that Jasam love is "ON FIRE." So hot and steamy. The best kindof love in my opinion, because they do have friendship as well. Jason knows Sam. He knew what her motives were with Todd even before she told him, and then she opened up to him and told him what was going on. And I do agree with the assessment that Lasion have a different kindof love. Friendship love, but no steam.

As a lover of both couples I have to agree with Ron Liason is an eternal kind of love and relationship their friends and will always be in each other lives and jasam is passionate and explosive and their love is from mutual understanding and friendship. I also think liason is passionate and fiery maybe thats why i cant choose and love both couples LOL. I really wish jake was alive I think the dynamic would be really interesting with baby jj and jake

I am not a big Jason/SB fan but I prefer him with Elizabeth/Becky. I think he needs to be with an actress that is more animated. He needs the offset.
I also prefer Kelly in scenes with other actors almost for the same reason. She is better with more animated actors.
Together Jason and Sam are bigtime boring for me. (I am not into the joined names so I have to try to be as accurate as I can on the spelling of the names)

Cyber soaps are not "level playing fields". On AMC did the characters of kendall and greenlee get the same airtime as say amanda and annie? No because kendall and greenlee were leads in their age bracket. On B&B does brooke get more airtime than say donna? Of course she does because brooke is a lead. Did natalie get the same airtime as say gigi on oltl or was natalie more of a lead in her age bracket? Did vicki get more airtime than renee? Again of course they did. look at the promos - sam and carly in front of jason and sonny because all four of those characters are leads. Liz is a supporting character - and important supporting character much like alexis and tracy - but a supporting character nonetheless.
As for friendship vs. fire, yes sam and jason have friendship but its not the only thing. I want my partner to not only be my friend but the person I want most in the world. for sam and jason that is one another. they cant stay away and when they are together they cant help but to want each other. In the end JaSam sizzles while Jiz simply fizzles.

Liz brings out the best in Jason...Opposites ...good girl/bad boy are always the most interesting couple love stories. There is just something about them that draws you in...So much is just said in looks alone with these two.

Did your not actually read this he said that Jason and Sam has the same type of love that Jason and Liz shares but with a bit more fire.
That means they share the friendship and have passion but what he has with liz lacks that fire.
It is really seeing what you want to see and twisting words to fit into your persecption. Liason fans Jason loves Liz, he respects and cherishes their friendship but he is in love with Sam. That is what Valentini stated.

It would be absolutely the most foolish thing for this dude to do if he didn't court the fanbases. He is playing the odds by having Liz in Jason's orbit. Becky has a huge following regardless if Frons saw it or if her haters doubt it. I can not see how the show can fail if he allows the fanbases to duke it out. He needs to fuel that discord with Liz and Sam battles. It cannot hurt. Winning!

EET - are you arguing that failed soaps followed a formula so GH should as well? Honestly, I think GH needs to forget about leads and supporting and just use the ensemble. Overusing Sonny and Carly hasn't endeared viewers. Overusing Dante and McBain isn't working. I watch GH for more than Liz. I am a Liz fan but not a fan of hers over the show. If she was on everyday, i am sure I would get sick of her. I used to love Luke. He needs a rest as does Sonny, Jason, Sam, and Carly. Let these mobsters ride in the backseat for a while.
I get that SamFF really like Kelly. She ain't the shows savior anymore than overuse of Kendall saved AMC.

Vet of course I want them to use the entire canvas, but EVERY television show I watch has leads vs. supporting. Do you watch castle? Its like fans of seamus deaver demanding less nathan fillion's castle character and more detective ryan because the show should be "level". The show is called CASTLE for a reason - because its about that character - even though all of the characters around him do get decent use. Dallas uses its entire ensemble but make no mistake the leads of that show are patrick duffy, linda grey and larry hagman. Revenge - is that about Amanda Clark vs. Victoria Greyson? They use the whole cast but you cant honestly tell me that you think the story devotes as much time to developing the nolan pov as they do amandas.
You said amc failed - yes it did, but b&B certainly is not a failure. What about the number one soap Y&R, do they have leads and supporting characters? I dont watch but i know that they do. Yes I do like kelly/sam but as Ive said many a time now my all time favorite is anna. They are both leads and they both SHOULD be leads. Neither woman will save the show single handedly. I dont think any one character or actress or pairing raises or lowers ratings single handedly, but demanding that all characters receive the exact same focus and the exact same air time and the exact same everything doesnt reflect any show thats ever been on television.

Let us use Castle as a model and actually use the hospital in the title of the show. All I am saying is that the show has a big cast of talented actors and even the most ardent of Sonny fans can get fatigued. Let Maurice have a vaca and use Johnny. Let Carly go snorkeling and use Maxie. Sam can flirt with John and whisper to their hearts content off camera and give Liz some airtime .

Jasam forever honestly neither did I. I do know that last night a friend of mine who is a liz ff had said there were robovoting issues with sons poll. My response - what poll. Even she said there had been problems with that. All that proves is that the liason fan base cared more about setting up some sort of way to win - either fairly or unfairly. Ive always said the liason fan base has more depth vs. breadth in that I think that if you had a way to ask every gh viewer who they prefer it would be sam and/or jasam but the liz/jason fan base is more ardent in their support for their couple which translates in to being more willing to buy a million copies of SID to win a poll or vote a bunch of times on SON. I also think they have the way more organized fanbase.
As for liz being in these stories - um not only does that reflect the fact that her fan base votes in these things it also reflects that most of her story in her younger days was with tg, gf and jj - and those are the biggest family in terms of fame and fandom in the history of the show. It also reflects too that shes been on the show a really long time.
Vet Liz has had plenty of airtime - maybe not as much as the leads of the show but good lord she is in the patrick story, the ewan story, the jasam story, the stevia story - lately shes everywhere. in many of the liason years she was on so much she made the airhog list. And in between she had tons of story with nik and lucky and jakes death. The liz ff act like shes been give the monica treatment when IMHO she fairs way better than either tracy or alexis in terms of story and time. I would agree we need more hospital in gh but i think part of that problem is that while they have brought on nearly half a dozen new docs in the last two years none of them have resonated with the audience. Lisa was despised and they turned her in to a mega villain, her coworker disappeared in to a closet somewhere never to return, ewan seems to be a semi flop, maggie flopped - steve is the only one be accepted by the fans and even there only seemingly mildly. Hard to tell a great hospital story with only patrick and liz.

I use to love seeing the hospital candy strippers (Liz back in 1999 as a Christmas Elf), Georgie and Maxie in 2006, and now that tradition has gone away along with the hospital staff.
