Y&R's Jeanne Cooper Fields Questions About Frosty Past With Melody Thomas Scott
In an interview with Smashing Interview Magazine, The Young and the Restless’ Jeanne Cooper is asked about a rather rocky period in her relationship with costar Melody Thomas Scott.
Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): Have you and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) ever discussed those years that the two of you were estranged, so to speak?
Jeanne Cooper: Never ever discussed. After all of it, she waves her hand and says, “Oh, mom.” It was just some silly thing, I guess. I’m wondering if she remembers (laughs).
Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): That is just so strange. She basically ignored you on the set for two years and had nothing to do with you off set.
Jeanne Cooper: I know. You think it’s strange. You should have been me! I mean, here is someone who is like a daughter to me. I really was very protective of her. She’s a very talented lady, but very, very sensitive. She still has the innocence and childishness that makes for creativity.
Melody’s not jaded, and that’s what I love about her so. I just talked to her the other day at a wedding. She never even refers to that period nor will she ever explain it. I don’t think she ever will. But, I wasn’t the only one. She did that to other people, and nobody knows why.

I once read an interview in Digest where Melody said about Jeanne - "She is the only woman I call mom and the only woman my children call grandma."
I just thought it was fabulous and it made me a little misty.
Actually makes me a little misty typing it right now.

What? This is all news to me. I had never before heard that there was a frosty past between these two. Hmm...interesting.
Although I can sort of see it. I mean, Melody is probably sensitive and feels things deeply. That's what it takes to make it into a leading soap diva. So I can see her having frosty relations with co-stars, especially women.

I want a follow-up to Victoria Rowell's book stat. That was my pool read two summers ago.
Is this acceptance of being frozen out a girl thing? My friend experienced the same thing. A good friend stopped talking to her for a period and my friend was confused and then after a year or so it thawed and she was engaged by the friend again. I know if someone did that to me I would want an answer, mom or not.

What a great interview. I know Eric Braeden must always win, but to also have the last word in a scene is beyond irritating.
Someone should find the youtube clip where Jeanne pinches Greg R. I have to see that.
I also love her comment about GH used tell story from the hsopital and now you don't see it unless someone gets shot. Ha!

My DEAR GOD!!!I just love this lady. She has that combination of gracious lady and I am too old and established to give a damn what people think so I am gonna just say whatever I want, let the chips fall where they may. Perhaps MTS snubbed her during her infamous panic attack period. She had a traumatic upbringing which makes her slightly unstable, but what is EB's excuse for getting away with being such an unrepentant arse on the set? What makes him get that kind of power? It certainly can't be his bored,stiff acting. His looks have kind of gone to hell, so it can't be that...why is he still so powerful??? A Victorless Y&R would be a dream come true for me right now.
As for JC, she seems like a handful but a lot of fun. I wonder if she ever told Michelle Stafford off for berating Michael Fairman when he dared leave that cult. Hmmmmmm....

True confession time.This use to happen to me when I was younger.I now believe it must have something to do with hormones,because since I'm now post-menopause it has not happened.It is like a switch flips and you cannot not stop or know why it happens.If someone tries to talk you just ignore or clam up.Then the switch flips back and you do not know why.I suppose a shrink might know,but believe me it is not something you relish.you do not want to do it but it just happens no matter how you fight it.And it doesn't happen with every person you know,just random.Also,it is not a thing that happens every year or month,just random times.
The only good thing is that most people accept it or just move on from you.It is not something you are proud of,and maybe could be fixed with a shrink,but since it is random,you just usually learn to live with it.
Like I said,it hasn't happened in a long time to me,and please don't think less of me or MTS.As we mature,we become aware of our foibles,and wish we would have changed.But the past is the past,and we can only hope to do better.

I am reading Eileen D's books right, and trying to figure out 'who is who'. Can't figure it out. Dont know if its me, or if Eileen (in her usual gracious self), isnt squealing on anyone in particular.
Now when we talk about Melody. It was common knowledge that Ed Scott was the Executive Producer, and she let everybody know it. But Nikki, aside from Jeanne and The Bug, are really the only 2 women left over from the 80s. New Jill in 89, Eileen gone from 87-99, Vicky Rowell left to be on Diagnosis:Murder for 5 years. So MTS as Nikki is the one stable force that Bill Bell could count on. I usually dont like her, as she is a diva, and over the top too much for me.

I just love her! Met Jeanne last year at the Y&R fanclub dinner and she was so friendly, feisty and wonderful. She and Billy Miller were a total hoot together with her drawing hearts and writing on his back and then him turning around and writing on hers LOL. When I told her my Mom used to make me cover my eyes during the kissing scenes on Y&R when I was little her response was "What a shame to miss all the good stuff" Great lady!
