General Hospital: Perkie's Observations
Dante dreams of JoLu making out and wakes to find Lulu out of bed. She walks in with a bouquet of roses. She thinks are from Dante, but they turn out to be from her partner Johnny. Lulu shows Dante the dress she’s wearing to the opening. He’s concerned about the cost, which Lulu isn’t.
Carly wants to be the first paying customer and gives Johnny a ten dollar bill. He says none of this would be possible without her. She tells him she made a deal with Todd to leave Johnny alone.
Todd tells Heather to stay away from the party because Blair will be there and he can’t deal with it. He opens his door to find Blair there. He is surprised, claiming the hotel is booked up. Olivia shows up with Blair’s room key and Todd asks her why Blair was allowed to stay at the hotel since he has a deal with Carly.
Spinelli tries to duck Maxie at Kelly’s. She wonders if he hates her that much. He says he doesn’t like who he becomes around her. He asks her to respect his decision to cut her out of his life. Maxie says she’s going to the Star party and doesn’t want to go alone. Spin tells her he won’t be her fall back anymore and will not be attending the party.
Emma and Patrick pay Anna a visit. They discuss Luke and Anna says she thought he was growing up and that he has a softer side. Anna asks how Patrick is doing and he tells her that Maxie is staying with them and helping with Emma. Anna tells him to ask if there’s anything she can do for him.
Heather stops by to see Luke and bring him food. He’s angry, saying he could have died of hunger. He wonders if the police are onto her. She admits she was taken in because of Anthony, but that no one is looking for Luke. Heather says Anna is easily manipulated and has been thrown off the track.
Todd calls Carly to yell at her about Blair staying at the hotel. He says he’s going to come after Johnny because of it. Johnny wants Carly to keep her distance from Todd, but she feels she needs to fix this before it gets worse.
Spinelli tells Olivia that he failed at his assignment, but she tells him that she saw a skeevy guy at Heather’s door and got his licence plate number. She wants Spinelli to check it out. Spin gets a hit on the plate and realizes that it’s the forger involved in Lisa’s murder. Olivia wonders why Heather would need a forger.
Spinelli overhears Maxie call Patrick to invite him to the party with her.
Anna gets her forged letter from Luke as Lulu receives hers. Lulu’s letter says Luke isn’t ready for the long haul and that Lulu may feel the same someday towards Dante. Anna’s letter says he didn’t kill Anthony, but took off because it wasn’t going to work out between them.
Lulu stops by to show Anna her letter. Anna’s more annoyed that Luke walked out on his daughter, but Lulu says she’s used to it. She was worried about him when she saw Heather at the Star that day. Anna asks to keep Lulu’s letter.
Dante drops by to see Johnny and to warn him not to send his wife flowers or other gifts. Johnny says he’s happy with Carly and has no interests in Lulu, but that Dante needs to smarten up. When Lulu shows up, Johnny tells her about his visit with Dante and how her husband wants her all to himself.
Blair shows up at Todd’s door to ask that they play nice for Starr’s sake. She asks to speak with Todd alone, after the party is done. She admits that Tomas is not with her. Carly shows up and the two women make small talk. After Blair leave, Carly asks Todd not to take anything out on Johnny. Todd no longer cares about Johnny. Tomas didn’t come with Blair and believes that Blair wants to get back together with him. He tells Carly that she needs to help him get Blair back or else. Carly tells him to ask nicely, so Todd says please.
Olivia runs into Dante and tells him that Heather is in cahoots with a forger. Spinelli goes to Anna and tells her the same thing and wonders why Heather would need the services of a forger.
Luke says Heather won’t be able to keep this up, that someone will catch her or find him. Heather wants them to start a life together and that Luke will love her someday. Luke yells that she can’t make him love her, but Heather says she can provide the right incentive.

What I dont get is we ARE seeing way more of Liz (and alexis and tracy) than we did under GW and GUZA - the show is better balanced - and it seems the criticism always seems to come down to specifically whether or not the HW is writing FOR LIZ. I wish tracy and alexis were on more but the reality is that they are supporting characters. So too is liz. When Robin comes back the show will have four lead actresses - Kemo, LW, FH and KiM. I think if KiM doesnt come back, my guess is you would see JMB more in that fourth slot. I would say keSul is a lead but with an * by her name - shes only a lead for the duration of the skate pairing. if at any time they bust them up my guess is she could easily be written off. shes getting lead type story and shes getting lead type airtime, but by nature solely of her pairing - no sonny pairing and that goes away. I know Liz fans wish she was a lead, I know Liz fans feel she deserves to be a lead, but she is NOT a lead. As for a pairing, I think part of JC going was that neither the pairing with liz nor the pairing with maxie 2.0 worked all that well, he had projects a plenty for the summer and kirsten wasnt ready to come back at that point. I would also assume BA is cheaper, so maybe they figure they have that pairing or say a potential joMax pairing and i would bet johnny too is cheaper than JC. the chemistry with NB was a total flop. If they feel that they have found lightening in a bottle with mcbam and the decide to repair jason with liz instead of chem testing him around the canvas (which is what they should do because honestly having him jump right back to her makes her the consolation prize and that doesnt really scream root for us) then she will be on more and might eventually become a lead as the result of that pairing, but for now she is not a lead. that was true under guza it was true under wolfe and now its true under cartini.
Bishbay Im sorry i bored you, but I didnt have that convo alone, it has been a convo that weve had repeatedly here and at tfo before it became dc. In fact, when i use to call liz nicknames - which i might have to go back to if they repair her with jason - i said you all are acting like Im picking on the actress. I bet if I called liz potato face this place would melt down. The thing is I never would because Liz's face IS in fact rebeccas face. would you walk up to bradford and call him potato face? would you walk up to anyone and call them potato face?

I appreciate that EET was civil in her response but come on folks, that wasn't exactly a burn. And no, I wouldn't call Spuds Anderson "Potatoface" to his face, but I am essentially gossiping about him, and in gossip you do say things about people you wouldn't say to their faces. I don't see what the big deal is, and invoking unwritten rules is just silly -- if you want to get the site owners involved, by all means do, but don't try to force your taste on other posters.

The problem I have with this argument is that many characters are hated and loved in almost equal amounts and still get stories and air time. Take Sam for example. I think everyone can agree that she is revered by many and hated by many, just like Liz. Yet, Sam is shoved in our faces constantly. And the argument that she is a lead is faulty. Yes, she is technically still a lead based on her current contract, but a lead is supposed to carry the show and bring in ratings. None of the current leads are bringing in ratings, and Jasam big events that are promoted out the wazoo (they actually mailed out fortune cookies to promote their wedding if you can believe that) receive some of the lowest ratings.
There is also Dante. Fans seem to either love him or hate him, and do each with a passion. Yet, he is also constantly on screen (it has been better lately).
I just don't think the argument that Liz is both hated and loved explains away her lack of story. RH is a talented actress with an extremely large fan base (she received more fan support than Deidre Hall did when she was fired). She should have a story.
Is Rh lucky to have a job? Yes. And so is everyone else on the show, so that doesn't matter much either.
Maybe this show needs to switch up its leads if it wants to surive?

Bishbay i dont know what the rules are AT PRESENT. I will state that right up front. And I get your point that gossip might not need to be held to the same standards of daily convo. That said, the rules at tfo were very specific and the prohibited actor bashing. the discussion i mentioned was one we had for literally pages - and i suspect this was before you joined - but it centered around what is actor bashing EXACTLY since the rule of no actor bashing meant different things to different things. I can only tell you what the vast majority of posters decided we sort of universally considered to be actor bashing. look, im the last person in the world who believes in censorship. it GALLED me to no end that some people had such a coronary about liz nicknames when they were aokay with sonny nicknames and i thought it was silly to be getting all up in arms about a fictional character, but when the criticism is one that doesnt go to the performance and goes to who the actor is as a person - esp. when its not something they did to themselves - like lets say over doing the tanning or getting plastic surgery or getting a stupid haircut, then thats a bit different but potato face is really something about bradfords looks at it reads mean. You are such a creative thinker, why not find a way to bust on spinelli WITHOUT slamming bradford? then I will be 100% behind your right to free speech even if I do like the character. Ill just laugh the same way i do when you trash sam.
JS - the ratings for soaps have been declining for the last ten years. the ratings for jasam in 05 were higher than the ratings for liason in 07. that had nothing to do with rebecca and steve and EVERYTHING to do with changing audiences. And ALL during that time the true and only real LEAD LEAD for the show was sonny and that has been the case in feast and in famine. to suggest that making the lead becky and three other random characters would save the show solely from that change alone is absurd. now if they did that AND coupled it with vastly better writing or a pairing that captures the imagination then maybe so but vastly better writing would help imho no matter who the leads were. All that said, the bottom line is that right now becky is not a lead. to complain that the show is poorly balanced based solely on her not being MADE a lead is nonsensical. the show IS better balanced. she IS getting more airtime and appropriately so. she has just not been made a lead and for whatever reason none of the writing regimes have agreed with your take that she should be made in to a lead. they must be seeing SOMETHING in terms of viewer response that we are not seeing ourselves wouldnt you think.

I have seen on various message boards the die hard Liasons trying to make plans to riase the ratings on the Liason key days like the playing pool and kissing day. However the ratings were just as low on these days with the Liason crowd trying to rally. Of course I hear constantly that if Liason were put back together and Jake alive suddenly the ratings would soar but that's hard for me to buy. I think alot of people left after the Jasam 1.0 breakup and throwing Sam under the bus. I know I hated seeing my girl thrown under the bus for Liason. The little ratings bump they got during the Liason time I think were for the come backs of Robin and Laura.. I know that and still watching Kemo is the only reason I stayed tuned. If Liason fans couldn't stay tuned just to watch RH then they aren't true soap fans to me.. Again just my opinion.. I am a jasam shipper but as long as Kemo is still on and I have a story that intrigues me I will watch. I guess to me you can't just watch a soap for only one actress or one couple..

JaSammbaby I think the summer of sleaze did effect ratings. In general I dont think fans like seeing major characters being written out of character and that happened with all four characters if you ask me, even if sam and lucky's characters got the worst of it. Remember too we had the strike and imho the strike writers tossed out a lot of stuff abruptly and then when the strike ended guza threw out what they were working on and in both cases that to me seemed extremely childish - like my stuff is gold and anything YOU thought off couldnt be as good as what comes out of my mind. I think all those lurches in the stories didnt help retain and attract viewers. I also think we are doing some of this ourselves. if you look at the sample size for neilsens it doesnt seem from what i understand to be the mammoth. if we start playing games - lets sink the ratings on this pairings days and lets raise them on ours and oh yeah lets only watch on you tube or on line if our favorite doesnt get the airtime and story we want and hey lets vote with our remote etc. etc - we are going to torpedo the show and if the show goes under all the pairings and all the characters/actors lose out. All the nonsense leaves me SMDH.

With respect to JaSam - todays gh poll on facebook was what couple are you currently rooting for - and if you look at the answers the number one answer by far is JaSam. Could some people have multiple facebook accounts? I suppose, but not to the extent that you would see with say an sod poll.

EET - I think the only thing nonsensical was your interpretation of my post. I never said that Liz should be a lead. (would i like that? sure... but i don't care whether she's supporting or lead as long as she has a good story) I said that maybe there should be new leads. I never said who should be leads. The show has gone down in ratings over the last ten years. The main focus of the last ten years has been the mob.I think the mob should be put on the backburner and the show should focus on relationships and the hospital again. They should pick the new leads based on popularity, chemistry, and potential storylines.
I also never said that one couple should carry the ratings for the show. I said that Jasam hasn't pulled in decent ratings for their promoted special events. A couple who is promoted constantly and is allegedly a supercouple should be able to pull in good numbers for their reunion and especially for their wedding. Even Spixie's non-wedding had better ratings than Jasam's.
