It's OFFICIAL: General Hospital Moving to 2 pm EST, Starting Sept 10
ABC soap fans can breathe a momentary sigh of relief. The Mouse House has officially announced plans to move General Hospital to 2 pm EST. In a decidely modern twist, the news was broken on GH's Facebook page. See the statement below:
Happy Tuesday GH Fans!We’re letting you know first - beginning MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th, we’re moving into our new time slot at 2:00 p.m. ET|1:00 p.m. PT|CT on ABC. You'll be able to catch all the intrigue and excitement of Port Charles one hour earlier! We equally excited about General Hospital's 50th anniversary on ABC next year.Share this news with your friends and family and make sure to tune in to General Hospital every day.
As previously reported, Katie Couric's upcoming, syndicated talk show, Katie, will inherit GH's current timeslot on ABC-owned and operated stations this fall. Congrats to the cast and crew of General Hospital—led by showrunner Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati—on the Herculean effort they've put forth these past few months to turn this soap opera around. I'm certainly impressed with the changes, and from what I hear, so are the two people who really count — Anne Sweeney and Vicki Dummer!

This sucks in a way because I usually watch Days at that time, if I'm home. It will put two of the 4 remaining soaps head to head in a lot of markets. On the other hand wouldn't it be the coolest if NBC moved Days to 2:00 against Gumby? We would see just how popular talk show premiere number 92 of the 2012 season really is. I would rather watch Dr. Oz & all things medical makes me want to hurl.

I will admit, even though GH is still more mobsiptal, than hospital, the writing is no longer choppy and the stories impossible to follow if you have a functioning brain cell. There is actually forward momentum now and stories get a full run through instead of petering out leaving us to wonder how Guza/Phelps ever got emmys for perpetually awful crap you could spread on a shingle, then gag on!
Heres hoping another year of GH will give it the time it needs to recover from the damage done to it!

Yeah! This is great news. This puts GH on right after Days on the East Coast. No competition here. Watch Days and turn the channel. Otherwise you can always record one and watch the other. I would always choose GH over anything else. Thank you Ron and Frank. Here's hoping there are more great stories on the way and a guest appearance from Natalie wouldn't be bad either. I would really like to see the story of Victor finished on GH. Maybe Allison Perkins is holding Victor in PC.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is great news, I will still watch ABC, take GH off the air and all my family and friends will stop watching ABC daytime, that's a lot of people. I am so happy the suits decided to keep GH, please let us have one soap on ABC!

Please don't mistake my whining for not being thrilled because I am! I started watching GH when I was a kid during the LL1 days. I started watching Days a few years ago because of SoapNet. GH is my show but I just hope that GH & Days don't hurt each other in the ratings in markets where they will be coming on at the same time.

Because those who did were received so well? I'd rather see GH characters like Bobbie Spencer, Lesley Webber, Lucy Coe or Dillon Quartermaine. Believe it or not this show has some great and rich characters too.
While I'm ready to accept these few faces from Llanview, I don't need more people coming on that have no history on that show. There are actually GH viewers who were NOT watching OLTL. And if more OLTL characters come on, for short arcs or whatever ... why should those people care? Why should they bother to watch them anymore?
I feel for the fans of AMC and OLTL. Honestly I do. But bringing on characters from these shows that already have a rich history which GH fans no nothing about won't do justice to any of the shows. It's okay to have these three, four characters on GH. I've accepted that. But that should be enough.
We don't need the people of Llanview in Port Charles or even re-building sets for them. That's just too much and it will end in a lot of complains from GH viewers again.

I am starting to wonder about conflict of interests with dvring - but I still have all my vcrs hooked up plus the dvrs and I will tape if i have to. at least with taping we were able to save stuff. Now if the dvr goes they give you another one and all that you had saved is lost. Dont get me started, thats another story. But Im glad its staying and they can all put that in their pipes and smoke it!!

soapfan616-We can only pray. Gee whiz. I never thought I'd be one to pray for the health and well being of a soap opera and all the talented people who's job it is to bring it to life. I'm thrilled that GH will inherit the 2:00 PM slot. I'll say it again. Even when I have difficulties understanding the direction the writers have them going, I will continue to watch for the actors who put themselves out there, day in, day out...

I know it's good news for GH, but OLTL was in that 2 PM EST time slot for almost 44 years. It's a shame that ABC/Disney tore apart their soap line up for cheap redundancy shows that are already available on TV.

If Days' ratings suffer, it will be because it's a crappy show and not because of competition from GH. There were times when it did very well against OLTL in that same timeslot.
I think we're forgetting that in previous years there were three shows (one from each network) competing in each timeslot. It was the best ones that usually grabbed the highest ratings.

In Maryland where I live,Days is on at 1pm,in the middle of Y&R and then B&B.Gh move won't affect the ratings here.When I'm home,I watch the first half of Y&R live,then tape the rest.I watch Days live when I can,but dvr it the rest of the time.
