Thanks for the podcast. Funny, I enjoyed the "black & white" commentaries. LOL. I thought they were sweet. Overall, I was pleased that the show aired and happy it came together in such a short time. The promotion was very good and Soap-focused. Loved the interactive web site dedicated to the show (and essentially soaps.) I am more focused on the awardees, and thought that largely the undeserving won. All of the Lead Actor nominees were really Supporting on their respective shows. Jonathan Jackson was the lead actor on GH and Tony "Mortimer" Geary was supporting. The whole system for Emmys is flawed because, yes, Heather Tom was amazing in her Emmy reel but barely featured on B&B throughout the year. OLTL being completely shutout of the nominations and wins is just wrong. That gripe is not the fault of the show but it impacted my ability to enjoy the show.

Regarding the show itself...Seriouy with the "Best Viral Video", Jack Hanna/Debbie Gibson/animals, Bethenny Frankel and other nonsense. The View's Bill Geddes getting a ten-minute tribute complete with clips but AMC & OLTL got no clips? Okay. Even soap clips were used when soap actors were interviewed throughout the week on Showbiz Tonight and during the red carpet show.

Like Melodie, I was annoyed by the show's poor camerawork. Luckily DC posted what soap actors wore to the event since the camera people failed to show the actors properly throughout the event. I wasn't sure who even showed for the awards. And, did all of the nominees have to be positioned SO far away from the stage? On another site, a commenter joked about a member of one the winning directing teams pulling out her asthma inhaler on the way to the stage in her group!

Also, I need Jamey to end each podcast with "Everybody git down!" in his spot-on Josh Taylor as FauxRoman voice Wink

I'm with Luke on the pointlessness of having Cameron Matheson on the stage with Susan Lucci and Erika Slezak. Ridiculous. The mere notion that Madison Avenue would even notice that he was there (let alone notice that there even WAS a Daytime Emmy awards this year) is just laughable. This show was so far off the mainstream radar, I just can't find the words to express how insignificant this is. This is yet another example of the soap genre thinking it's more important than it is in the overall entertainment world.

It's interesting that Ellen DeGeneres was virtually non-existent on the Emmy telecast. I wonder if she over-pimped herself this year. Every show was so advertiser-based and filled with product placement, I think she may have turned off a lot of her viewers. I've seen infomercials with more subtlety.

Of course, this site (which I've always argued should really be called Soap Opera Confidential), has pretty much ignored everything else in "Daytime". No mention in this entire hour of anything other than soaps. No talk shows. No game shows. No judge shows. No children's shows. Oh well, keep talking yourselves into oblivion...hopefully my grandma's cemetery can get podcasts.

I've only listened to about the first 15 minutes and Jamey Giddens you better preach! I posted on twitter that I thought Heather Tom didn't deserve the lead actress emmy and some folks came at me like I was crazy. I stated that she hasn't been a lead actress on this show. You could possibly argue her first year on the show she was lead but besides that she has been nothing but a supporting character. I, also, think Heather Tom is one of the best actresses of her generation but she's not lead. A couple years ago, I believe 2009, Christian LeBlanc won for lead actor and I remember complaining then about his win because in the last 4/5 years on Y&R he has been nothing but a supporting actor. These actors shouldn't be allowed to do this. It takes crediblility from the award in my opinion. Let's reform that.

Again, agree about Heather Tom; one of the best ever actresses in the genre, but strictly supporting(@Smitty--LeBlanc has one all of his Emmys based on showcase episodes when, as you say, he hasn't been a lead in probably a decade). I know it's not feasible but I just wish there was a way to provide of better sampling of an actor's work throughout the year rather than a couple of episodes; on the current theory, almost anyone who's on fairly often could submit themselves in lead categories(which of course they obviously do).

@TV Gord, since your every comment seems to indicate that you can do it so much better, how about I send you a list of blogging/podcast platforms. Didn't you get all huffy and quit the site a few months back, vowing never to return? Yet...here you are, still listening to our subpar podcast and correcting us ad nauseum in the comments of our blogs. If you feel you know how daytime TV should be covered so much better than we do—and it's so apparent you do—then go do you!

Bet you're glad I didn't respond to the listener's survey! Wink

You're still the best place to come for news--which I have always said--and that's why I keep coming back. I have opinions, though, so what am I supposed to do? You can take them or you can act all defensive. Or you can go and listen to the theme song from The Facts of Life. It's all just entertainment. I just wish there was more respect for ALL of "Daytime", since that's the name of this website.

I'm listening to the Podcast now and you guys are hilarious! Jamey talking about the Wild Animals reminds me of that Chris Rock joke when he mentions the Tiger who attacked Roy (or was it Siegfried?), Chris said that a lot of people said that the tiger went crazy but Chris said "That tiger didn't go crazy, that Tiger went Tiger!

I was appreciative of the fact that I got to see the Awards but I just wish (other than the horrid music) that they would have either done away with the In Memoriam or made sure that they spelled people's names correctly and that they didn't omit people who were integral to Daytime Drama who passed away but considering the few weeks they had to threw things together, it could've been worse. Although I didn't watch last year, so I only remember one year of the dreaded Vegas years.

Sadly, Dena Higley was listed on the Days' Writing Team that won the Emmy. They haven't posted the official winners list with all the individuals on a given "team", the official nominees list has her on it. I always wondered how that worked if writers changed in the middle of the season. What's interesting about Days' writing team is no one on it was listed as head writer. Very interesting...here's the link: http://www.emmyonline.tv/mediacenter/daytime_39th_nominations.html

I can't believe that woman can call herself an Emmy awards winning writer now...*shudder*

Great podcast, y'all - once again. Overall the 39th Daytime Emmys was a much better awards show, especially given how last minute it was. The music was terrible, there were not nearly enough reaction shots from the audience, the AMC/OLTL tribute too brief, but still - it felt more like an awards show for daytime than a commercial for Las Vegas. And I liked those B&W documentary style clips (except old boulder pushing Maria); I felt HLN was trying to show respect to serialized dramas. Which is lovely, since so much of mainstream entertainment media likes to go all Doomsday Clock or condescendingly elitist towards soaps (looking at you The Holiday Reporter!)

What is this crap about naming the Anna/Luke pairing "anal" (or is it "Annal")? Doesn't even make sense. They can be Lanna or Lunna or even Anuke. What's with all the nasty ageism (thank you, Jaimie!) and homophobia (referencing Tony Geary's rumored sexual orientation). Who cares? I didn't like hearing this on the Larry Flick show and I'm sorry to see it perpetuated. In a "Who would you do?" side-by-side, I'll take Tony Geary over Larry Flick any day of the week. And thank god, there was no chat about the talk show, game show, kid show, judge show categories (is there a judge show category?). What exactly is there to say about them?
