Dallas is The Year's Top Cable Debut!

The Southfork shall rise again! TNT's soapgasmic premiere of Dallas on Wednesday night was watched by 6.9 million viewers, making it the No.1 scripted series premiere on all of cable for the year-to-date.

The latest chapter of David Jacobs' classic, CBS sudser—developed for TNT by Cynthia Cidre—hit a 3.7 in households, and was watched by over 1.9 million in Mad Ave's beloved 18-49 demo. Dallas also bested its timeslot competitors on the Big Four broadcast networks. Yep, soap fans, we have ourselves a Texas-size hit!

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know I enjoyed last night's two-hour premiere of Dallas almost as much as J.R. (the still incorrigible Larry Hagman) once loved tossing back booze in Miss Ellie's (Barbara Bel Geddes) parlor room. Speaking of Miss Ellie, the late, great Southworth-Ewing matriarch's spirit was alive and well during the first two installments of the new Dallas, as good son Bobby's (Patrick Dufffy) vow to his mama to keep Southfork land from being drilled on proved just as integral to the 2012 sudser's storylines, as it had during the series' original 1978-91 run.

Unfortunately for Bobby, his nephew John Ross (breakout star Josh Henderson) is just as hellbent on extracting crude from that sacred ranchland as his daddy and granddaddy were before him! John Ross finds a worthy rival in cousin Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe), an earnest, do-gooder like his adopted pop. Chris believes "oil is the past," and wants to put the Ewings back on top via green energy development. Christopher's talk of harvesting methane from the ocean floor almost caused me to break out a copy of Chemistry For Dummies.

The new Dallas wasn't all boardrooms, however. The Ewing boys' bedrooms saw plenty of action, as John Ross was busy nailing Christopher's old flame Elena Ramos (Jordanna Brewster)—as well as a curvy, schemer helping him con his uncle and daddy—while Chris grinded and thrusted (in tight, black boxer briefs) on top of sexy, mysterious new bride Rebecca Sutter (Julie Gonzalo) on their wedding night.

In addition to Hagman and Duffy, original Dallas star Linda Gray appeared as a now powerful Sue Ellen Ewing, J.R.'s formerly drunken two-time wife, while Desperate Housewives alum Brenda Strong starred as Ann, the shotgun-toting, latest wife of Bobby. Did anyone else get tickled when J.R. informed Ann how much better he liked her over the first Mrs. Bobby Ewing?

Classic Dallas characters Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly) and Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) were also on hand, and J.R.'s arch nemesis Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) returns on June 20, making Dallas a true treat for fans old and new. All in all, the next eight weeks should be one helluva good time in Braddock County!

But enough of what I thought about the show. What did you guys think of the new Dallas? Sound off in the comments!

Oh, I am over the moon. Its been a long time since I have seen stuff like that. I was waiting for Cliff Barnes to jump out of the woods somewhere, but happy to hear he'll be in it next week. Like I said on a previous post, so happy John Ross said bullshit. I hope they start cursing, I really do. When I watch these shows, someone always needs a big F-you and they cant say it cause its forbidden. Yea, cursing...I like that.

AMAZING! It's was truly amazing. I enjoyed every second of it and can't wait for next week. I never thought that Josh Henderson was a good actor judging on his "Desperate Housewives" stint, but boy did he surprise me last night. Sexy as hell and just incredible nasty. I love it!

The love triangle has good basics and the family dynamic is one Daytime soap operas could learn a thing or two from. I enjoy having the Ewing family back on my screen. And I hope they stay there for a long time.

The ratings are well deserved. And with people watching repeats over the week, "Dallas" might do even better in the other eight episodes to come.

It was pretty good. It can't (and shouldn't) really be compared to the original. I had a hard time believing, though, that Bobby would be putting Southfork up for sale.

LOOOOVED IT!

If I had a drop of oil for every time I heard or read "JR's Eyebrows" in the past 15 hours, I'd be richer than a Ewing!!

Jamey, I found your "Cattle Baron's Ball!!??" tweets last anight rather amusing to say the least. But while I consider myself a modern gal, MAN, did I miss the tacky, 80's version of (either) ball! Very glam seeing everyone walk a red carpet for the 2.0 inception!

But really, Bobby? John Ross can't drill for oil ON Southfork - -it's strictly forbidden, HOWEVER... selling 150 old family land is okay? Hmmm.

Word to the wise!! If you live in ...NY, and are planning on a clandestine meeting with someone ~ Meet up in Giants Stadium! Are you in Boston and meeting up with a mobster? Step right up to Gillette! NO ONE WILL FIND YOU ON A FOOTBALL FIELD!!! LOL!

I love camp!

Southfork is to DALLAS what Manhattan was to SEX AND THE CITY. Love seeing 'her' again. I'll miss Pam, and Miss Ellie, but cannot WAAAIT for Cliff to return (please, please, please resurrect his affair with SUE ELLEN!)

The Week Link for me is Jordana. Eeks. Girl, please eat. I just didn't warm up to her? I think casting feels the same way. They made sure to cover her in oil in a while t-shirt in the opening scene.

LOVED IT!

Still trying to warm up to Josh as John Ross but I LOVED it otherwise! Josh did fine acting wise, he's just not who I would have pictured as JR's son. The writers sure did their homework and worked with the original cast to get the storyline and characters down though. In the aftershow (online) they talked about how they sat down together and worked through the pilot. MAB should take a lesson from Cynthia Cidre! Heck all of Daytime should take a lesson or two.

BULLSHIT!!! It sucked!!! The whole thing was awful from beginning to end, and I wish I could find the people who decided to bring this show back, because I'd like to throttle them within an inch of their...nah, I can't keep this up. I loved it!!! They did a great job picking up all these years later, and I think they perfectly balanced the storylines between the generations. I am completely engrossed! The only negative feeling I have is that there are only eight more episodes this season. That's going to be way too short. Welcome back, Ewings! I didn't realize how much I missed you, but I did miss you. (And you got giogio to say, "Bullshit"!) Now, I'm going to include some angry faces for the people who are just glancing. Angry Angry Angry

It did what so little of television is able to do to me these days: it entertained me and kept me interested.

It would be "bullshit" to stop watching now!

OMG!!!!!!! It was Awesome!!!!!! By the middle of hour two I was screaming at the TV "They did it right, Thank God they did it right"

I did also yell at my TV when John Ross told Christopher they are not related. Granted Christopher is Bobby's adoptived son, but Christopher's biological mom was Kristin if memory serves me right. Who was Sue Ellen's sister, so biologically they are cousins.

Can't wait for next week's episode.

I haven't been this excited about a TV show in a very long time. Dallas was a staple every Friday night with Falcon Crest right behind it. Loved, loved, loved it! Lots of surprises, esp at the end.

Couple of things though -- the reuse of the name Mitch and Tommy and the Cattleman'a Ball -- that was always so glamarous. Was disappointed to see it so toned down.

And, Sue Ellen as possible Governor nominee? With her past? More power to her.

Didn't miss Pamela, loved the Miss Ellie references but sorry there was nothing said about Jock. Lucy and Ray got 2 minutes screen time. Hope they get more scenes in future.

Can;t wait for next week's show!

This is great! It is weirs to see pretty boys like Josh Henderson & Jesse Metcalf on the starring roles but I will give them a chance.

However: Jordana Brewster???? What the hell is SHE doing there? Shouldn't she be at Jersey Shore or something...

I thought it was good also. Didn't want it to end.

It took me a while to place Jordana Brewster. She looks different. I think she is thinner. of course, she is also older now. I remember her in atwts and then the teenage movies with the aliens in high school and then Fast & Furious. She certainly keeps working. I hope I got the names correct. I did not look her up and left it up to memory.

I am not familiar with the guy actors. I think I rather it that way. This way I will give them a fair chance. I couldn't stand Desparate Housewives so I didn't see any of the actors on that show. Thank goodness. I really never understood how DH lasted so long. This way I am seeing the actors with better material and not the goofiness that really ran its course by the 2nd season.

Hey, I bet JR sent that email. Just sayin....

TVGORD, you scared the "shit" out of me. I thought you really didnt like it and I was ready to haggle with you. It was so good.so good. And I want to hear more cursing. I will be on the floor if Sue Ellen says to Jr you dirty Mother Jumper (nice for what I wanted to say) I love JR but wouldnt it be nice to start cursing at him after all these years. JR never lost his scheming conniving ways. But wait till he gets back to Dallas and confronts that woman. Oh lord is she in for a shock. Be still my heart.

Ok, I have to ask this, the cattleman's baron's ball? I always thought the big to-do on Dallas was the Oil Baron's Ball. Completely different!

The old series was probably my favorite show ever, so I'm glad to hear people enjoyed it and the ratings were good.

Fixing to go watch it on DVR now..

Gord, you had me going there for a minute! LOL My thought was, dang, what an ass that he didn't like the show, but you pulled that ACE out of your sleeve and duped us! LOL Love it! And I mean the above statement to be a compliment! Smile

I have been waiting with baited breath since last year when Jamey told all of us that TNT was doing a newer version of Dallas. I watched this show when I was a kid! Loved that they kept the original theme song for Dallas 2.0. And as so many of you have pointed out, you're all right when daytime writers should learn a few lessons from the writers of this show, who sat down with the original actors from the original series to get everything down just right.

As for Jordana Brewster........eh, she didn't do much for me at all. I was sorely disappointed by her performance to say the least. But that was the only thing I didn't like last night.

I'm printing out a sign for my apartment door that will go on my apartment door every Wednesday night that will say the following, "IF IT IS AN ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY, DO NOT DISTURB! I'M WATCHING DALLAS!" And my neighbors better not bother me either! LOL

Great premiere last night and enjoyed every minute of it.

Jamey you are a lover of Another World, Santa Barbara and Dallas.....While neither of these shows were in my tv auora, but I will give DC crew a high-five, because this show bangs! It had all the right elements of a good old fashion television drama.....I was dog.tired, but thee show keep me on the edge of my seat, and this is how you do a drama..Today standards of make it pop feels like a waste of time.....This is what daytime was about years ago, and even primetime.....TNT KILLED IT!

I loved the premiere episodes as well. JR Ewing was the first person that I ever heard curse on network television. When he said about Cliff "I'm gonna run that boy's ass out of the oil business!" I actually fell out of my chair.

Did anyone else notice that when Bobby was arguing with John Ross it was no different than a typical Bobby/JR argument? I was highly skeptic of Josh Henderson as John Ross beforehand given his short lackluster run on DH, but last night he blew me away. Wow! Deseprate Housewives shot themselves in foot by not properly showcasing Josh and writing descent material for his character because this boy is a tour-de-force. I love how he can expertly mimic Larry Hagman.

Patrick Duffy and Brenda Strong were excellent as well.

The Ewings are BACK! I loved it, just absofreakinglutely loved it!!!

As for John Ross cutting Chris about not being related, he actually said "We're not family." I think for John Ross, family is all about being a Ewing, which Chris is not. Sue Ellen said that John Ross wasn't fond of her connections, but they're powerful so he could count on them. He resents her for sending him to boarding school away from his dad (and he probably remembers her not-so-sober days when he was little), so I can see him discounting her side of the family. Besides, Kristin shot his dad.

Okay, back to "I loved it, loved it, loved it" to infinity! Long live JR and Bobby (who is still sexy as all get out).

I just watched it. Yippee kayo kayay!
I lived in a Dynasty house so we didn't really do Dallas... did I say that?

I loved it, everyone is scheming! I love the fact that they didn't try to CW it and forget the original actors from the show!
And talk about a come up! Jesse Metcalf? Miguel from Passions? I never would have thought he'd gone this far.
I didn't really have a problem with Jordana, I thought she had chem with both Chris and John Ross. I did give a slight eye roll to the break up email though, lol, but it's so forgiven.

ALL of Daytime needs to take notes.

I thought it was great, with a nice mix of veterans(loved Bobby's several shout-outs to the late, great Miss Ellie)and newbies(wow is that Josh Henderson pretty and boy does Jordana Brewster need to be fed). Also loved John Ross dropping "bullshit" in the middle of his conversation with JR; frankly, if the censors had allowed it back in the day, JR would've been dropping BS and F bombs left and right. All in all, definitely a good start and definitely a show some daytime showrunners could take some pointers from.
