Can't be too upset 'bout this one! The only role I've liked Mr Buchanan in is as Duke Lavery on GH!
He was very poorly used.
In a way this is good, they really botched his stint. With Stefano exiting for a bit, the show will be without a villain...unless you count Will.
Frank and Ron at GH would probably LOVE to get this guy.
Well this comes as no surprise. And can't say I'm not happy about him leaving. I like Ian Buchanan as an actor the the role was beyond horrifying. I hated him even more than Madison.
IB can't play a villain. He was horrific on AMC and on Days. What he is good at is playing the antihero underdog which soaps don't write anymore. Sad.
This is the same soap that squandered the talents of Tamara Braun, Sarah Brown, Christie Clark, Louise Sorel (during her last stint!) and Crystal Chappell (during her last stint.) So there's little wonder that this casting idea sunk like the Titanic. I saw it coming a mile away.
I'd bet money that Ian is the one who shot Stefano
I felt like his casting was just as bad as Y&R casting Tucker. And that was what it felt like. Like Sony wanted to try and plant a new villain on Days. So his ax'ing is par for the course.
What Days needs to do is get back to the tried and true storytelling. I'm sure Lorraine will add to getting things back what soaps were all about. She's daytime's writing Princess Lela.
Now if they let go of Galen and Camila Banus we'd be on the full road to recovery.
"I don't hate. I pink-sliperate!"
THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure Ian is a nice guy but he should NEVER play a villain role ever again. He comes off as something from a horrible 80's cartoon.
"no word on why the actor was given the axe."
LOL, Stop. You know why.
I don't really get where DOOL is going with all these pink slips. Matt Ashford probably bothers me the most atm, I was really starting to like Jack. WTH is Jennifer going to do? Makes me wonder if MR will be receiving her pink slip soon as well.
Thank goodness-- he and the role are simply dreadful. very upset about Matthew Ashford, Christie Clarke and Patrick Muldoon. Not upset about Sarah Brown--her character and her didn't work.
does anyone know the latest on Peter Reckell? Is he staying or leaving? Also, did Molly Burnett choose to leave or was she let go?
Frankly if Days would stop miscasting actors maybe so many would not flop. Same as Y&R. That was the case with Tamara Braun, Ian B, and Sarah Brown. Just because someone is talented doesn't mean they can play anything. I mean none of these people are Meryl Streep or DeNiro. It's the same BS at y&R. Debbi Morgan is sorry to say awful as is Genie Francis and Stephen Nichols very blah.
As for Matt Ashford I love Jack but I am so not interested in watching another round of Jack and Jennifer.kill off Jennifer and bring Jack back I am all for.
@jphelps: Jack and Jennifer have been written like a sitcom within a soap over the years. Their storylines were always some sort of bad comic relief. I don't think there has been anything that good between them since after Jack raped Kayla and Jennifer learned the truth about the man she feel in love with. Beyond that it has been a bad Three's Company meets Small Wonder ripoff.
@everyone: On a bigger note, just looking DOOL since the late 90's; It has often been the same repeated storylines for overused or returning characters. And one must say without much character evolution or maturity. Although, I blame Rielly's earlier original writing for charting that bad direction.
-Every time Carrie and Austin return or have been on-air together (since the late 90's) it always ends up being a love square between Austin, Carrie, Sami and "Mike/Lucas/Rafe."
-Sami was always getting left at the alter by a man she had lied to.
-Marlena was always in peril. Minus the possession redux.
-Tony or Andre always ends up "dead."
-To take the words from Jeanne Cooper mouth, Maggie has spent most of her years serving rice pudding and doling out advice (minus the blonde wig).
-Hope's bad deeds are almost always the cause of her being under some evil influence. She can't just organically be placed in circumstances that would make her act in a way anti-to what others would expect. Heck even Lexie was driven to the dark side once.
-Abe has always been honest (that convoluted election scam does not count as bad), which does not give too much room for story.
-Aside from that almost 2 year time period where Lexie gave in to her Dimera roots, she has been portrayed as a goody goody, unless she sleeps with another light-skinned brotha who Tyler Perry has not yet cast as the blue collar "bring a so-called 'high sidity' sistah down to reality" lead in one of his films.
-Neither Abe or Lexie have been able to fully explore other love interests
-The writing (75% of the time) has also not allowed for much character nuance. I credit the actors that CAN ACT for filling in those blanks.
-It has also kept that trend up where looks comes before talent. And for a genre that is supposed to be seen as a legitimate acting career move. Days brass (over the years) sure have helped keep that stigma of daytime going. When Days is considered the training ground, you have to wonder if you should not have stayed in that role in Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway.
-Finally the lack of historic seriousness given to most storylines since Rielly turned Days into G.I. Joe meets He-Man meets any Choose Your Own Adventure Novel has also bogged down the show in the long run. That 90's era craziness may have risen it to the top at one point, but its success lasted as long as Ace Of Base did on the pop charts. Don't turn arounddddd..
And that is what I got to say!
I don't think this is upsetting for anyone. His character never worked, mostly because he was playing a bad guy. But it does suck that Kate doesn't have a love interest when he goes.
remember when he was vampire on Port Charles?
Solid actor. Wrong role. I hate to see him unemployed, but happy DOOL is getting rid of McCallister.
Duke Lavery is coming back from the dead with his pre-plastic surgery face in 3 2 1 ...
I like him as an actor, but his role was just plain cheese on Days. He was just so cartoonish and excessively annoying that I didn't care for him. I loved him on B&B as James and remembered him on GH as Duke but that was about it as I wasn't a huge GH watcher. But he was great on B&B so I had high hopes but he has fizzled in Salem, although I don't think it's his fault.
So Christie Clark, Patrick Muldoon, Matthew Ashford, Sarah Brown and Molly Burnett are all leaving the show in some capacity. I elect Lisa Rinna, Shawn Christian, Camilla Banus and Casey Diedrich to go next. To me those characters are ALL expendable. Bring back Matthew Ashford and further develop the ESTABLISHED cast and I'll be happier!
Hopefully he goes back to B&B as Dr. James Warwick.
or James could move to Genoa City and be Sharon's counselor.
@The_Moustache: Or her latest bed-mate. This is Maria we are talking about.
Out of all the ones leaving, the only one that I'm disappointed about is Christie Clark; she's actually become a good actress in the time she's been on the show. As for those who need to go, I agree with all 4 you listed(and it wouldn't surprise me if they actually do write Diedrich out when Molly Burnett high tails it out) but I'd add Josh"get down Mama!"Taylor and Drake Hogestyn to that list too.
Why bring in all these old characters for a short period of time like Jack and Jen? And who the heck needs Kayla? She's useless! And where is Caroline and why don't they bring back Julie and Doug? They need a strong matriach and patriach for the Brady's? This is so ridiculous this swinging door crap. It does make sense that maybe Ian shoots Stefano since he's on his way out but I guess that means that he's not EJ's father which I thought he might have been. Unless he is EJ's father and he shoots stefano for keeping it a secret all these years.
"No word on why the actor was given the axe"........uh because he sucks? He makes drake hogestyn look like marlon Brando. Maybe not that bad but he really stinks up every scene he's in
