#59 = In regards to Sonny you have Kate/Connie, and Mcbain going after Sonny. Mcbain was precisely bought over to go after Sonny and everyone is complaining. A new character is coming to town and no one knows if he's pro/con Sonny but because he has ANYTHING to do with Sonny, he must be a worthless character. First of all, characters who are hated are consistentlye xplroed and utilzied because hate is stronger than indifference, and everyone likes to see everything crumbel down. Just look at pure, saintly Jason finally being seen as a total arse and being targeted by McBain as well. Look at all of these morally and criminally corrupt characters finally beings hown the way they are... and now look at everyone complain about those storylines now that Jason isn't a lord and savior? I posted in another post about Johnny. He's a criminal, a character who was mental from the very beginning. Just because he was more sane than his creepy grandfather who offed his mother/father or his sister/mother, doesn't mean he's an altogether sane character. How is showing him in the light of a criminal who finally accepted teh darkness of his family corrupting him? What about all the past crimes he's done? Has that left him completely pure?

I'm not surprised people are angry over storylines. I'm surprised that people can't decide what kind of storyline they actually want now that their hated characters are being shown realistically. Mister dangling-off-roof-tops never had all his marbles. I'm not saying it's all his fault, that's the intrigue behind the character, he's a mob prince who is a product of his environment and lack of nurture... but seriously? To say that isn't within the character's nature? This reckless, dangerous character who has always been advertised as dark, tormented and tortured? There seems to be a ridiculous self-righteousness in the hearts of man fans who simply because 'CarTini' are behind the show now. I'll admit I'm not the greatest fan of the mob stuff being on all the time but when i started watching this show it was with Sonny and Jason at the helm. It's a soap opera. People and characters do all types of horrible, heinous things. Like Sam being thrown under the bus to gain sympathy for Liz and destroy the character of Sam with the whole kidnapping of the child bit that occured years ago. You know what would ruin Johnny? Sanity. To be honest his only intrigue as a character is his eternal conflict and how he's constantly on the edge.

What I think/hope the writers will/are doing, is creating a story that will finally put Sonny/Jason where they belong. Their empire needs to cripple, the police need to start doing their job, the fmilies in port charles need to return and flourish. People complain about the mob and then complain about a cop coming in to take the mob down. People complain about Sonny being everyone's loveable mobster and then complain about the stories where he's being attacked at several angles: ie, Todd, Mcbain, hopefully the pcpd now, kate/connie. All I'm saying is that the back and forth opinions of this show on their boards sound as schizophrenic as the Zaccaras sound looney. I just don't get the CarTini hate, not after the crapfest that came before them. I get that ya'll are angry but I just can't stand all the bashing going on, especially since to me very few people even gave CarTini much of a chance anyway. Guza should just come back to give ya'll the stories you've been yearning for. He obviously knows how to please you guys.

Another ridiculous note to me is that the show gets two new behind the scenes people: producer and writer, and some of the same old writers and behind the scenes people remain but it's CarTini who's driving GH down the drain, not the people who steered it there in the first place, right? And of course we have a crystal ball and can read their intentions especially when it comes to casting - so well in fact that we're downright clairvoyant and can conclude where a story/character will go. Let's ignore how Robin, Brenda, Jax and Dante have been written throughout the years, let's forget how many months it takes for a story to pan out, let's just jump on the bandwagon and blame the two people that have been handed this sinking ship and scapegoat them for the entire last leg of the run. I'm all for everyone having an opinion but the people behind abc daytime, and the people still on staff on this show remain and until this is changed, I think a show that practically dictated the crapfest of Sam/Jason since the kidnapping of Jake will probably continue to ruin characters no matter who is 'writing' or 'producing'. Haters are gonna hate though, so it is what it is. I shouldn't stress over it. After years of watching this show, I should get used to scapegoating.

I don't think the show is perfect or will ever be perfect, jsyk. I don't knwo who this character will be or what storylines will occur hereafter. I'm just trying to be realisticic and objective considering the state of soaps, the state of this soap and the facts of the situation - which include ABC, the behind-the-scenes staff, and differences between the last 'regimes'/runs.

This regime just doesn't get it. I think a lot of people are underestimating the number of fans who are disgruntled or who have totally abandoned this show because of Sonny being shoved down our throats 4 days per week.

I don't know if ever the mis-using of one character has so killed a soap. I guess the Guza/Frons man-crush was passed down to this regime.

The main problem with Sonny is that MB just gives terrible, bizarre performances, which often seem to be delivered from inside a hastily scribbled cue card. This throws scenes off over and over, and when you add in the laziness of Sonny stories, that just about everyone in his life always pledges fealty to him, and how these stories never have any consequences, and it's just awful to watch. I remember all the hoopla over the scenes where Todd held Sonny at gunpoint, and surprise surprise, the scenes were horribly acted (by both MB and Roger Howarth), had lousy dialogue, bad pacing, and zero suspense. The ratings dropped that very week.

ibekingape-Interesting and thoughtful post (#61). Speaking for myself, I have actually welcomed the character of McBain being introduced onto the GH canvas for what seems to be the specific purpose of "bringing down the mob"-starting with "the bully" Corinthos as I refer to him. I can overlook
the contrived (according to some), story about McBain's sister being a casualty of mob violence. MB's character, that he has played non-stop for almost twenty years, is present in virtually every story that has come down the pike at GH whether or not the character has ties, familial or otherwise to what's going on. It's the near constant insertion into story, seemingly just to get him "in there" that grates. Even before Guza and Wolf, it became apparent that, for whatever reason, TPTB got the idea that a mob centered soap was somehow going to be a "ground breaking" direction for daytime drama. Personally, I was never enamored of this criminal kingpin nor did I ever regard him as a "loveable mobster". When they introduced Dante Falconeri into the mix, it was a hopeful sign that maybe, just maybe an undercover cop whose mentor had died as a result of a mob hit ordered by Corinthos, would (finally), burrow into the organization far enough to crack the foundations and start the "crumbling" of the empire. But oops! Not so fast, kiddies. The undercover cop is, in reality, the mob bosses' first born son that he never knew about. And neither did his son. Well, hot damn! Isn't that just dandy?! If Guza thought this was going to be a windfall of good will for the Corinthos clan, he must have parked his head where the sun doen't shine. Not only did it taint the Falconeri character as a result of genetics, the subsequent refusal to name his father as his shooter took the character into the basement as far as following the "letter of the law". (I admit I'm one of maybe a handful on this board that still support the character and want to see him recover some of his "Dominic Perelli" edge. It's going to be a long haul.) And once again the elder Corinthos gets away with attempted murder as a result of storytelling that appears pre-determined to keep the criminal "on top". And you wonder why we're sick of the bully? I won't get into the John Zacchara debate. I have my own thoughts that I'm sifting through, many which bother me about how he's been recently written overall. As for McBain, if he takes down the the bully, as a Llanview transplant, and in tandem with FH's Anna, I will throw a party and raise a glass. Beer Do a lot of us complain? Absolutely. Do we want to complain? I, personally, don't. I'd like to think that most here don't want to complain either. I guess I'm complaining most about the systematic destruction of GH as a place where finely crafted stories, dramatic, romantic and uplifting used to be told. And they didn't revolve around one or two characters four out of five days a week. Yes, you're right. GH isn't perfect, it probably never will be. But there is no reason why it can't strive to be excellent. Just my thoughts and me being honest... Innocent

I agree with everything you said! I am tired of all the bashing and complaining that has been going on. We should be lucky we HAVE a show to watch. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. My opinion is that I al loving GH again, thanks to Frank and Ron. Sure, it is not perfect, but it is so much better then it was a year ago. How can you forget Garin W.'s awful "Woman in White Story" and Sonny and Kate's endless talks about their Besonhurst days? The show moved at a snail pace. Now, it is moving faster, stories and characters are connecting better

I like the One Life characters. Never liked Sam but am loving the chemistry between her and John. And John is so much better on GH, he actually smiles! The Luke, Tracey, and dead Anthony scenes made me laugh. Great to see humor on this once dark show. I wish Anthony wasn't killed off because Bruce Weitz was so funny in the role. But I guess they could take the character just so far and his death brought on some really funny scenes. Was upset about the big change in Johnny, but this will give him a lot of meaty material to play and I'm sure Ron sees how great Brandon B, is and how much he has grown as an actor. Todd is always amusing, but I'd like to see Trevor St. John on for a little while at least as Victor. Now him up against Sonny I would like to see. Love Heather, she plays crazy so well, and Anna , who brings on the emotions and tears so well. May-be now Mac will finally get a different storyline, he deserves it. Would like more Quartermaines but we can't blame Ron, John Ingles is ill and Guza killed half of them off. His biggest mistake was killing off Alan, he really is needed now for the family, and Monica needs a story and man in her life. How about bringing on David Vickers (even if just for a little while. I can just hear the complaints again how One Life is taking over the show!) He was so funny and I could just see him walking around the Quartermaine mansion half naked in a towel, going after Monica and Tracy (he always liked the older women with money, and isn't Tony Geary due to go on his 3 month annual vacation?) I'm loving the Davis girls scenes, giving Alexis more to do, Jason and Liz dealing with Jake's death, such touching scenes, and Epiphany and Patrick scenes. Frank and Ron have brought such heart back into the show.

I do wiah Sonny was less prominent, though Maurice had been giving his all the last few weeks. A year ago he seemed bored and sleep-walked thru his scenes. More action now. Has anyone thought that the ABC honchos insist Sonny and Jason stay front and center and Frank and Ron HAS to keep it this way? At least they giving the 2 characters more emmotion-packed story-lines, though they are the Mob and we have to see some guns. If they took that away you'd have the fans complaining that they want more Sonny and guns. You can't please everyone but I think Frank and Ron have brought more balance to the show.

I will continue to watch and support GH. If any soap needs a change it's the #! (sorry, I can't understand that) Young and Restless. Same stories over and over, couples getting together, a few weeks later breaking up, Victor's same old mumblings, and every other word is Beauty Of Nature> Genie Francis, in my opinion, is so wrong for the role, she just grits her teeth and eats up the scenery. And all the All My Children former actors, Billy Miller the exception, are so miscast, Now that show needs mew writers fast!

We are all entitled to our own opinions and mine is that I am loving GH again. They have the best actors and it may not be perfect but it keeps getting better and at this point, give it more time. It may become must-watch TV again. I just want it to stay on the air!!!

Mark my words....Richard will be cast as the son of a former mobster. Will it be Scully, Rivera, Jerome, Smith, Alcazar, Zacharra, the Balkan? The list goes on and on and on....He will have ties to Kate & Sonny and be responsible for Kate's DID exonerating Sonny and his causing Kate to be shot, kidnapped, etc. Kate will probably have been raped by Steinmetz's character and in predictable soap fashion have a 20 something kid showing up in town in time for the summer.

Sad how focused this show is on rape....

RAPISTS - Luke, Todd, Johnny and soon to be seen new mobster character.

VICTIMS - Liz, Sam, Kate (by Johnny & the new character)and Michael.

Before we blame Guza for writing such a dark show let's acknowledge that Cartini brought rapist Todd on the canvas, made Johnny a rapist and is now about to embark on another rape story. I a matter of 5 months they have doubled the rape stories on GH.

Where has love in the afternoon gone? I don't find myself tuning into root for any romance.

Doubt he can be Scully's kid [i.e., Kate's child] 'cause he looks so much older than his "mother", don't you think???

I like the idea of maybe Sam's dad though!!
