Good Afternoon America to Premiere July 9

ABC’s trial run of Good Afternoon America is set to debut on July 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reportedly, Josh Elliot and Lara Spencer will anchor the afternoon hour of Good Morning America, filling the slot currently occupied by the axed The Revolution.
"It's tremendous that GMA has this opportunity to extend its reach, and bring something new to the afternoons,” said Elliott, who joined the ABC program as news anchor in May 2011 after several years on ESPN's SportsCenter. “It is gratifying to play a role in it and genuinely hope our audience will come along for the ride."
Expect George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts and Sam Champion to make special appears on Good Afternoon America. The show premieres at 2 PM EST on July 9.

Where did the term “trial run” come from? Was this part of ABC’s press release or did the media decide that this show was a “trial run” . I only ask because there is nothing in Josh Elliot’s statement that implies that he thinks this a temporary move until another program takes over the slot. I also understand a trial run to be a test to see if something works and if it does then you go for it. Where does this leave GH if ABC decides that this show is working? Katie is already taking the 3pm slot. If the term "trial run" came from ABC, did they indicate when this "trial run" is supposed to end?

This is ABC's attempt to push GH out once again!!! I will not be watching and I hope this show fails as miserably as 'The Revolting' did!!! If ABC thinks GAA is so good they should replace the horrible 'The Spew' with it!!!

Ya gotta be kidding me.
Do they seriously think this is going to work? I'm not even talking about GAA vs. GH. I'm talking about GAA vs. ANYthing.
I think I'd rather watch an infomercial...

I think it will do well against The Talk.

Maybe they are testing it to see if it could replace "The Chew" and not "GH" but they are probably looking to get out of the soaps business. I would suggest tuning into "The Talk" to drive ratings.

Aaaack! I LOVE Josh Elliot. Would love to see him succeed, but not at the expense of GH.

If you're a GH fan all I have to say is don't trust ABC! GH has more viewers than the Chew, obviously the Revolution and according to Nelson Branco from Soaps Uncensored has been beating the View in demos for May sweeps so far. Keep watching GH, don't watch GAA! GH needs to keep upping and upping its game. I want to see it turn 50!

I'd rather not watch either The Talk (which replaced my favorite soap) or GAA (in solidarity with GH fans, even though I do like Josh Elliot and don't really watch GH)

if ABC wasn't looking to get outta the soap business, they wouldn't be greenlighting all these talk shows.
C'MON NOW WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

I actually am looking forward to GH being shown at 2 pm. I like Dr. Oz and I am tired of switching back and forth.
I think GH will do fine against the Talk. That show just does not hold me like the View. I like politics. The Talk seems silly to me and I am not inclined to clap at all the silly comments like their audience seems to do.
The View is more separated from the audience and the discussions are more serious. Even Sheree has gotten more serious since she is on the show. I never know what she may say but she has upped her game some if you know what I mean. I don't know if the Talk will eventually get into more serious stuff. Only time will tell. They have copied enough of View at this point.
I think GH will win 2 pm timeslot in fall with this team writing the show.
I will agree not to trust abc. They can be trusted as much as cbs/p&g were with atwts/gl. Networks are born to lie.

This will do well and I won't weep one bit when GH goes off to give this a permanent slot in the daypart.

This is GH's competition. Boycott it! It's imperative that people not watch it because if it has a successful run this summer, chances are high that ABC will cancel GH and air this as its replacement.
Because Good Morning America and all the staff are already ABC News employees, ABC doesn't have to pay additional salaries or create a new studio. That makes this show dirt cheap. If its ratings are equal to GH's, ABC will GH and replace it with this crap.

Exactly....also, they are in competition with the Today show, which has done well in extra hours, and for the focus to be on entertainment rather than news gives it a bit of a different spin. This is definitely a primer to be the replacement for GH.

If I worked on General Hospital and an opportunity came its way, I would take it.
I think even if General Hospital stays, abc will drop it the second nbc drops Days.
There is no doubt in my mind if GAA works, then GH is a goner sooner rather than later. They will just write off the losses in contracts, etc.
Still think to justify cost, GH needs 3 million at least. Don't forget B&B is a half hour show so it is cheaper to produce.
