Chelsea Lately Pokes Fun at Carly and Connie's Catfight on General Hospital!
By Jamey Giddens on May 04, 2012

Thursday night was Suds Night on Cable. While All My Children's Susan Lucci was being fawned over by Andy Cohen on Bravo, General Hospital was on the radar of Chelsea Handler. The comedian opened her hit E! talk show Chelsea Lately by ripping the camptastic catfight between Carly Corinthos Jacks (Laura Wright) and Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri (Kelly Sullivan) that recently happened in fictional Port Charles, NY.

While I'm sure some soap fans are pissed that Handler called Wright and Sullivan "botoxed bitches", I think anytime a daytime soap is featured on E! or Bravo—two cablers that boast oodles of the 18-34-year-old eyeballs soaps desperately need—it's a win for the genre! If a few of Handler's diehard viewers roll out of bed today—no doubt following gnarly vodka hangovers—and search their cable guides for GH, in order to find out what Handler was making fun of, so be it! Plus, it really was all in good fun, no? Watch the clip below and judge for yourself!

If only the GH catfight had ended like that!

If all soap catfights ended like that, they would have to change the demographics from W18-34 to M16-70!!

Oh I'm not pissed at Chelsea. I love that woman!!!! And she's right.
The catfight between Connie and Carly was horribly done. When I saw this on "Chelsea Lately" I had to laugh and was kind of ashamed for this genre...

Hysssssterical!!! Sorry, but Chelsea is 1000% right. That was just the worst acting I've seen in a LONNNNG Time. Considering neither one of the actresses unclenched her teeth the whole scene! LOL

I think Sam and Carly had better Catfight at Jakes.

Love Chelsea and her show! And it is definitely good to have her showing your clip on the show, even if she's making fun of it (which of course she would!)
She did the same with One Life To Live many times and even I had to laugh at my then favorite soap being made fun of. Just have to have a sense of humor about it.
Not only are they getting it out there to people but someone on the staff is actually watching the soaps! Chelsea admitted that One Life to Live was one of the soaps she grew up watching, which I thought was cool.

Yeah, this isn't exactly the attention we want for GH. The show has become a joke, and now everyone is noticing that.

It's definitely poking fun at the genre, but it's doing so with affection. Clearly Chelsea does love the soaps. Saying "Soap has been replaced by Purell, and Opera has been replaced by 'The Voice'" is a humor-laced lament for a dying genre. And really, who doesn't love a good catfight?

Chelsea talked to Robin Wright for almost an entire interview segment about Kelly Capwell on Santa Barbara. She grew up on soaps, but still makes fun of the ridiculous aspects, no different than what we do.

I'm not a vodka drinker, but Chelsea Handler makes me laugh whenever I catch her show. I didn't catch it last night, and when I tried to load the vid it froze up my computer... I'll have to try again later because I'm sure whatever she said was funny!

I drink Riesling mixed with high quality sparkling apple cider. It works the best on Days when the Drake is on. But After seeing the catfight on GH it made go back and watch the one from Generations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqJhp6fScQk . Nothing beats that one.
Anyways, it is good that the genre is getting press. Hopefully it can get some more. Just don't let YR get it. That would make people wonder why "those folks are still tuning in."

mipeony, Chelsea's Thursday night shows are always repeated the following Friday, so you can watch it again on May 11th.

I can't stand Chelsea Handler and don't watch her. She was in the movie Reese W made with the two hunks. Cringed when she was on the screen.
Having said that, I think it brought publicity to the genre. Albeit, I am not sure if it is good or bad.
I just know LW is probably seething. I don't completely disagree with LW' constant over-the-top I have to prove acting she has done on this show.
On the flipside, I think KS is doing great work. Love her character. Without Kate/Connie the show would put me too sleep. I will add GH has been awesome lately.
This was amusing and gave me a laugh.

I swear that Ron C is a mind-reader. Literally RIGHT before Carly slapped the BLEEP out of Connie/Kate/Wes/Mess/Nikki Smith 12.0, I was wishing that someone would knock that tacky red lipstick off her lips! That fight was one of the FEW times in the past few weeks that I haven't cringed at the sight of Kate/Connie. As I have vocally stated before, seeing this character 14 days a week is tiresome. But I actually enjoyed her the other day. Go figure..........maybe Carly needs to whoop her butt everyday?

I LOVE catfights, no matter how redonkulous they sometimes are. My favorite still has to be the bar fight between sam and carly! I also loved when my fave Carly, tamara braun, kicked the snot out of sams abusive ex-boyfriend. I also loved the throw down between Olivia and Claudia and the one between sam and liz at the b&W ball. For other abc soaps, I loved pretty much every catfight erica kane was involved in and all the fights between tea and blair. Tea going threw the window was EPIC!

I think it was Blair who went through the window, not Tea.

I have to say I hate videos that automatically launch, especially when they are preceded by stupid KardASSian commercials you can't pause or mute.

Scout Tea went through the window first. It was years later that Tea did the same to Blair. I love my Tea, but theres NOBODY that compares to my Blair!
I love her calling tea Chiquita (sp?) and the line about women who sell their services...

@Scout: I believe EET is referring to the ORIGINAL scene where Blair did indeed push Tea out the window, and it WAS EPIC! Of COURSE the writers had to try to re-do some of that ol' Tea & Blair magic, but yeah, Tea hit that concrete first!

I'm not sure if her essentially saying, "This is horrible. You can see why soaps are dead." is affection.
I'm not a fan of hers but she is right in this case. The catfight was horribly staged, the acting was awful, and it was just pointless trash.
I can't see anyone tuning in to GH for this. If they want to laugh at a freak show, there is plenty on every cable channel.

I love, love, love Chelsea Handler!! Love her show and love her books!! I love that she said what she said about Carly and Kate's catfight, if you can even call it that!! Acting at it's worst. For some reason, Laura Wright always feels the need to go over the top, acting wise. Tone it down Laura!!

I have to say, as much as I have been enjoying General Hospital lately - I totally busted up laughing out loud when I saw this fight. It truly was so bad it was funny. It doesn't bother me though, a lot of cat-fights are bad on TV. The writing has gotten much better on GH and if Chelsea poking fun at it gets even one more viewer, then I'm happy.

I think the catfight was hilarious & was meant to be 'over-the-top'- can't you see the humorous side? I think Kelly Sullivan is doing a great job and GH is really compelling viewing for me,considering #YR is my favourite soap(maybe not for much longer).
I think Chelsea's comment were good and bad.Maybe some of her viewers will tune in?

I just don't know how many people are going to tune in because they see a clip with shockingly poor writing and acting. B&B was a laughingstock on The Soup for a year or more, and IIRC, their ratings only went up after they dropped most of the reason for that crap (Kyle Lowder's Rick).
It's not much of a recommendation to say, "Hey everybody, look at this example of why soaps have died. Doesn't this suck?"

I normally don't like cat fights but this one was highly entertaining. It was so over the top that I couldn't help but laugh. When ConKate gave that battle cry and launched herself on Carly I almost peed my pants from laughing. It was a nice break from the usual GH norm; Sam's crying and begging.
