Starr Pulls a Gun on General Hospital’s Sonny!
By Luke Kerr on May 01, 2012
Poor Starr Manning (Kristen Alderson), she’s lost so much. Overpowered by grief and anger, Starr fulfills what is almost a rite of passage for Port Charles newcomers; pulling a gun on Sonny (Maurice Benard). Meanwhile, Lulu’s (Julie Marie Berman) super sleuthing ends up with her and Sam (Kelly Monaco) being held hostage. Watch this week’s General Hospital promo after the jump!

Was hoping for less guns on this show with the violent happy Bob Guza gone. Guess that ain't happening.

Oh, jeez....does this show ever evolve?
If she doesn't go ahead and kill Sonny (and then herself), she might as well shoot me. I need someone to spare me from this misery.
Yeck!!

Again, the shameless use of gun violence to drive story on this show HAS TO BE ADDRESSED!!! It is just getting to the point where anyone can go buy a gun easier than it is to buy a pack of cigarettes!!!
I am serious when I say that this show has just pushed the limits of sensibility for years and there was all this talk about how the show will change with the new regime from OLTL in place. Well, I can tell you that if you look at all the promos from the time that they started, a gun was in each and every one of them.
GH needs to be saved and not through increasing the violence, the use of guns or the glorification of the mob.
NEW REGIME get to work and stop taking it easy. Carolyn Hinsey, Soap Opera Digest, Michael Logan, Daytime Confidential and all other bloggers, START SPEAKING UP ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THIS SHOW and stop giving these new writers a free pass on everything they do!!!!

Carolyn Hinsey is sticking her head in the sand, she will not entertain any criticism deemed negative. I believe she thinks that is support for the show!

Ron Carlivati loves gunplay and pointless hostage crises with insta-psychos. What would the last 5 years of OLTL have been without them?
This type of promo kills ratings. Everyone knows nothing will happen to Sam, Sonny, or Lulu. Why pretend otherwise?

I feel so validated after reading the above soap fans' comments. Thank you all!
A gun on GH has no impact. It's overused and cheap. How many times has someone pulled a gun on Sonny in just the last 6 months? How many guns has he pulled on others? It's cheap writing aimed at the stereotypical non-thinking soap fan--the ones who only exist in hacks' delusion worlds.
And yes, the soap press is complicit in this stupidity. Somewhere along the way it became soap-unpatriotic to question this regime's vision for GH. It's sad really. I suppose those press writers who wallow in this regime's special "magic" think they are doing what's best to save a show, a show so desperately needed to justify the existence of the soap rags. Apparently it's cool to knock Y&R for its stupidity, but writers are hesitant to do the same to GH, a show on which women catch DID like the flu, a show where "maybe rapes" are supposed to be engrossing, a show that seemingly cannot further plot without the use of a car crash or gunshot. Self-preservation seems to be the only explanation for why so very few in the press question this kind of head scratching stupidity.
But questioning this kind of poor writing IS the only thing that will save GH and this genre. We need to stop pretending this crap doesn't stink. We need to start demanding real criticism instead of mindless catch phrases like "GH is on fire" and "Watch GH" and "Soaps still matter". This show doesn't need a twitter-friendly marketing campaign. It needs a real head writer and a real executive producer, ones who dare to throw out Frons' and Guza's and Phelps' trash instead of attempting to recycle it as if viewers are too stupid to know the difference.
Soaps fans deserted GH for a reason. When GH vanishes, perhaps someone may look back with some sense of clarity and say that making GH about an angry mobster, his brain damaged hit man and the women they share and impregnate was a BIG freaking mistake! This genre reached the height of its popularity with GH in the 80's. It reached (arguably) the heights of artistic form with GH in the 90's. Fans know what GH CAN be. And we're not fooled by these hacks or the press who praise them.

@everyone: Here's the deal. You can't pronounce a headwriter and/or an Executive Producer the gold standard unless they have a long body of work to back up that claim.
People like the great Agnes, Bill and Douglas have that body of work.
Even Lorraine Brodrick, Claire Labine and Sally Sussman Morina have a body a work which once can judge their ability to grasps writing on various soaps. Thus, one can make an informed call about their ability to perform or not perform at a level necessary to understand a show and get it back on track.
Ron was donned the new "King" of daytime with just one soap under his belt.
Now when I think of Lorriane or Sally for instance. I don't tie them to a "brand of soap writing" because they have proven to be able to write for other soaps and give the fans of that soap what brought them to it in the first place. Sally was able to take over the reigns of Days from JER and seamlessly continue it as if he had never left. And Lorraine who took over AMC wrote it like she was Agnes herself.
From where I sit all the OLTL castings just add to the ways in-which Ron and co. are limited in their writing abilities and are trying to bring One Life to the Hospital as if the two can mix.
My hope was that it would be more "Hospital" but that is not necessarily the case.
And that just leads into why 50% of the show is bad and 50% is good.
My theory and I'm gonna hash it out now is that the reason why they put some vets on contract is to soften the blow for all the OLTL characters the "knew" were coming and didn't immediately want to upset the audience by selling them as "contract players" only to start revealing this after they had already aired.
So again GH is playing on screen, but it is not yet so good that I have to stop all the work I am doing to focus on it. Yet I do FF through all the Sonny scenes and sometimes Jason depending on whose in the scene with him.

-_- @ Kristen Alderson's "acting". Girl, goodbye w/that. And I see they are doing the insta cray w/Ronnie. And ppl wonder why US soaps are irrelevant and dated.

Considering it hasn't been too long since the last time Starr pulled a gun on someone (a cop on OLTL) and she was on the lam with an escaped prisoner, why would anyone be shocked that she would pull a gun out on someone now on a show that already has a lot of people carrying guns?
Heck, yesterday was Mob free on GH, but we had cops pulling out guns in the middle of a police station, and then Heather pulling Luke's gun out on him.

Get ready for another dead baby on GH...I am hearing horrible rumors! Those who watched the Angie and Jesse storyline on AMC will be getting the worst case of Deja Vu. Sorry guys, but Ron C. is becoming a hack.

Frank and Ron better start tying up loose ends now so they can give GH as awesome a send off as they did with OLTL.

Starr needs to go! They need to bring Cole and Hope back from the dead and give her a QUICK happy ending, sending her back to Llanview where she belongs! They can use her paycheck to help keep Florencia around. Kirsten A's anemic acting and Starr's constant whining just make me want to pull out what little bit of hair I do have on my head! She has NO chemistry with Michael/Chad Duell, so why is she on contract? What value does she bring to the show?

alsotonboy- Im with you. actually I dont really like being so negative because one way or another I never ever miss a day of any soap I watch, but Kristen really needs to tone it down. I know she lost a baby but I just saw coming attractions at her pointing that gun at Sonny and she is really in rare form. Im sorry, Im not used to the screeching and screaming and the breathing heavy on GH. It just feels so strange. I like her but she needs a different way of acting on GH.

ITA with you Alstonboy! They need to send Starr back to Llanview. This girl isn't working. I haven't seen a scene with her that would let me keep her on GH. And yeah, she has no chemistry with Chad Duell's Michael. And her obsession with Sonny and the unbearable screaming that seems to come with it is just stupid. We all know that in the end Sonny didn't kill the boy and the little kid. So are we supposed to feel sorry for Sonny and Starr in the end or what purpose is in that storyline??? Send her away!!!!
A three-year contract!?!?!? For what???

Frons, Guza and JFP may have left the building but their stench remains. Like it or not their version of GH has been the bible for well over a decade. The suits aren't going to veer away from that tried and true vision. They may not be Frons but they certainly trained at his knee. They don't know the Claire Labine GH or the Gloria Monty GH. They don't care that the show could be and SHOULD BE better. They do know, however, that ABC's ultimate goal is to be out of soaps and therefore they have no incentive whatsoever to make a change. Ron and Frank don't have free reign. They're janitors cleaning up after the elephants in the circus. It's more of the same until the lights go out.

Anne Sweeney wants out of soaps, period. I seriously doubt that FV/RC were given free reign to change very much when it comes to GH. Sigh. I really miss OLTL, because it was on fire the last few months before the show went off the air in January.

Every negative word about Kristen makes me want to give her a big hug and remind her that in 4 short weeks she'll hit the big 21. I'd tell her that just because she can drink doesnt mean she should but one glass of champagne to celebrate her new job and new city is deserved.

I never watched OLTL but I think KA is doing a fine job on GH.
Starr should be grieve stricken with the lost of a child and boyfriend. Not surprised she wants to take justice into her own hands.
Look forward to the scenes. Like the way Starr holds her own with Sonny.
