Whitney Houston's Ex Bobby Brown to Today's Matt Lauer: "I'm Not The Reason She's Gone"
In a Today exclusive, set to air Wednesday and Thursday, R&B singer Bobby Brown sat down with Matt Lauer. This is Brown's first interview since the death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston. For years, many have believed Brown was responsible for getting the late songbird/actress addicted to drugs, however the New Edition member says that wasn't the case. Brown stated:
I didn't get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney. I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all.
Brown goes on to say Houston's heavy drug use began "way before" they started dating. The controversial star also claims he's been clean for the past seven years:
Me being off of narcotics for the last seven years...I felt that she was...I didn't know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time...listen, it's a hard fight. It's a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way.
