Which show was the Worst Soap of the Week?
I pretty much think this picture says it all. Daisy Carter must be the most hated and most awful character in Y&R history. Every episode this woman gets screen time I'm a little bit closer to never watch this once great show ever again.
Unfortunately I removed Y&R from my DVR recording list this week..It's just too boring and still so scattered all over the place with plots/characters...Sorry Y&R but GH just bumped you out as the only soap I'll watch daily.
Y&R wins with the return Daisy. Please tell me why they keep bringing her back? Now we have her and and that damn Angelina running around town enough already!
I'm glad that Daisy is back, and that Lauren is packing heat. With the redemption of Adam, and the absence of Patty, GC needs a psycho let loose on the town again.
Next week brings the return of Cane to Jabot. Hopefully, he and Ashley will end up having sex on a desk or something.
No, really I mean psychos good ... and can live with them, I even love a few of them. But this girl is a living joke. Her background story makes no sense, her stories are unbearable and the actress ... well I don't want to pick on anyone. Let just say I saw better ones and that she doesn't play her part very believable, which I think can't be easy by this one.
"Y & R" is the worst soap of the week, hands down!! Why? Here's the lowdown:
1) The VERY UNNECESSARY return of Daisy Carter - UGH!! Why does this regime keep bringing back a character that is NOT WORKING?!? Sorry, but I still don't buy the logic that Totem Pole Daisy & MIA Ryder are the demon spawn of Sheila Carter & Tom Fisher, who didn't know one another when they first met 6 years ago - just bad storytelling all around!
2) Nikki leaving Victor - what, AGAIN?!? HAVEN'T WE BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD A BAZILLION TIMES?!? All I have to say is "Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z"!!!
3) Blind man Adam fighting fires in a rainstorm, yet he remains unscathed and char-free??? Yeah, right.....? Why are there live horses on a barely-used farm?!? Another wrong move courtesy of the Y & R writing team!!
4) Avery reaching Darien, CT. in RECORD SPEED while Phyllis is in their father's room coaxing the truth out of him re stolen money. Funny, I thought the Concorde Red Eye stopped flying years ago - once again, logic thrown out the window for sake of plot. This Phyllis/Avery story is another MAB/Sheffer/Hamner story that is not involving or working.
5) Angelina, Angelina, Angelina - GO AWAY!!! YOU SUCK!!!
I see Y&R's A-list top notch cast right there in that opening image...Yeah right... A list my ass. That's the only "A" in A-list today.
Y&R went from being a $10 million dollar diamond ring from Tiffany's to a $100 dollar Cubic zirconia from Kay's. Does every kiss begin with Kays? And that's for the women...
For the men, Y&R went from a bespoke Prada suit for $1795.00 to an off-the-rack Menswear House ready-to-wear suit for $150.00. And the quality, the details, stitching and customization are completely on opposite ends of the spectrum.
So when you go from 5th Avenue/Rodeo Drive soap opera to Walmart/Dollar General drama then Houston we have a problem.
@soapjunkie88: Well I was informed that soaps don't need 10 Meryl Streep's. I mean who wants a soap opera full of talented actors? Bargain basement people who act as good as they think they sound in the shower will do.
Now i'm starting to believe that applies to writing and production staff too. Who needs an Agnes or a Bill when you can get Higley or Pratt? I mean is that where we have come to?
I mean I know how desperate fans are to keep the remaining 4 soaps on air and hold hope out for the 2 that were recently canceled. Yet when the executive team (EP/ HW's) at one of the 4 soaps shows daily that they could care less about what it actually takes to win the battle in the cage. Then again, Houston we have a problem.
So I can give Brad Bell, Frank Valentini and Ken Corday an A-plus for doing what it takes to "stay in the game..." and for actually showing that they give damn. But I cannot credit not even an inch for people who say to the press:
"I just think the fans are going to love where we are going with this." - Scott Hmaner.
"Only 20 fans hate what we are doing..." -Hogan Sheiffer
"We're going back to the classics" and "this is going to be so delicious" -Maria Arena Bell
Whose continuing story threat is to have a Wack-job-Villain of the month come on to do some over-the-top crazy outlandish Passions of the Sunset Beach act. Write them off to fan fair, only to bring them back once more. And they don't even see the problems. They ceded that they will be back or that they have to "find the right story for them." Never admitting failure in their castings (Best audition in 20 years), firings (Melody Thomas Scott/Stacy Haiduk)or their writings (last 3 + years and counting). Nope they just keep on trucking ahead like they are writing Oscar-Golden Globe-Writers Guild-Independent Spirit- Canne award winning drama. When in actually actuality their writing is as compelling and thought provoking as an episode of Power Rangers. And the only award they deserve is a Razzie.
So that is what I got say.
"We didn't land on Maria Bell. Maria Bell Landed on us!" -Soap Viewer X.
The thing with Maria and the press, is that the broad knows the jargon and BS to say. She just utters buzz words like "return to classics", "vets", "character-driven", and she thinks that all what it takes to shut people up. She needs to practice what she preaches.
Y&R is by far the worst soap. The problem is the writing and the execution of the storyline ideas.
As someone who has watched for 30 years,I can tell you the show is NOT that bad, although it is pretty bad sometimes.
Wasting Ken Howard as Phyllis's father. The guy is a great actor, but he was reduced to a hospice scene. Did not do his acting credentials a credit at all. He was pushed aside for who, Deianna DeGarmo? There is no justice!
I don't mind Yvonne Zuma as Daisy. She is simply acting as a nasally, whiny girl in her early 20s, who happens to be a psycho. If you're expecting the acting of Kim Brown (Sheila) or Stacy Haiduk, it ain't happening.
Y&R isn't that bad. Tried to watch Days for the time since New Salem (MelaSweN), and let me tell you -- Boring.
So funny; the best are the ones with less viewers and the worst are the ones with the most viewers. Seriously!
^ITA. Y&R is AWFUL. Days, GH and BB are by far the better soaps. And YZ is a truly sh*tty actress. There is no way in hell, I would even buy into the notion that she was "average".
