As the world mourns the devastating loss of one of the greatest vocal talents of all time, let's take a look back at one of a then relatively unknown Whitney Houston's first TV appearances. It was with Jermaine Jackson, performing their duet "Nobody Loves Me (Like You Do)" on an episode of CBS Daytime's As The World Turns in 1984.
The song was the love theme for ATWT's biggest supercouple, Steve and Betsy Stewart Andropolous (Frank Runyeon and Meg Ryan). Watch the clip, (Also featuring future Oscar winner Marisa Tomei as Marcy Thompson!) after the jump!

Every time I see this clip (about twice now, but who's counting?), more pieces of childhood memory trickle in. My Mom was a fan of ATWT back then and I sometimes watched with her but the details of these early 80s episodes are very sketchy...I remembered Tonya Lee Pinkins but not Marisa Tomei or Christian LeBlanc in this scene (in fact, until recently, I'd forgotten that LeBlanc even starred in ATWT!).
Wonderful memories and reminders of 1 of the reasons why ATWT was my favorite 80s soap. And that song was stuck in my head, not only as a kid but even now, I was surprised at how many of the song's lyrics I can still remember now, having not even heard the song for well over a decade! I was about 10, I think when I bought Whitney Houston's debut LP and guess what...I still have it! I haven't taken it out though, I got a bit choked up just hearing the Greatest Love of All this weekend. Rest in peace, Whitney Houston, I pray that her daughter, mom and siblings and family can find a way forward but I am sure that will involve working through a lot of pain. At least, we as fans, have her awesome voice and amazing talent to cherish. This clip is just one example of that and thank goodness ATWT had the sense to see and grab onto that talent and highlight it for the show. Thanks for posting this, Jamey...I know you love Whitney's music too.

My eyes hurt from crying. Dont know if I can get over this. She gave a new meaning to falling in love in the 90's. My heart hurts. This is just too too much.
