Wishful Storytelling: What If Holly Sutton Lured All My Children's Dr. David Hayward to General Hospital in a Plot to Keep Robert and Anna Apart?
So I was driving to Mickey D's this morning for my steak, egg and cheese bagel combo and I started thinking about the awesomeness of Vincent Irizarry. I mean seriously, why hasn't some show snapped this guy up yet?
While I wasn't exactly big on All My Children making his Dr. David Hayward an ominipotent, omnipresent supervillain, I've been a big fan of the actor himself since I first saw him take on Enzio Bonatti (fellow soaper Michael Nader) as Lucky Santangelo's (Nicollette Sheridan) badass, mobster dad Gino in NBC's Lucky/Chances miniseries from the early 90's. A quick listen to our interview with author Jackie Collins from last April, and you'll realize she's quite the fan of Irizarry herself (and of a young Phil Morris in his swimsuit!). So I got to thinking, wouldn't it be amaze-tastic if Irizarry turned up in Port Charles, N.Y. as his All My Children alter ego?
The character's AMC ex-wife Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is on her way back to Port Charles, and will soon be (SPOILER ALERT) grieving the loss of another daughter. Wouldn't it be nice for David to be there for Anna, in honor of their own dead Pine Valley daughter Leora, much to the chagrin of Anna's other ex, Robert Scorpio (an also returning Tristan Rogers)? Maybe the scheming Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) could be instrumental in luring her rival's former hubby to town? Holly could find out some dirt on the Quartermaines and use it to blackmail her way onto the hospital's board of directors, where she recommends bringing on David as the new Chief of Staff.
In addition to embarking on a juicy, grown-up quad with Holly, Robert and Anna, David could square off against Monica (Leslie Charleson), Noah (Rick Springfield) and the other doctors on staff at G.H.? Perhaps to get under Robert's skin, David begins treating his step-niece Maxie's (Jen Lilley) heart condition, and lures the young woman into bed?
Imagine if David were to find himself on the receiving end of a multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit and has to employ the services of Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn)? Or, maybe the WSB receives intel that David's Project Orpheus was actually underwritten by a grant established by the late Mikkos Cassadine, thus prompting Robert and Luke to begin investigating Dr. Doom's connections to one of the soap world's most lethal clans.
Maybe as a pre-med college student in the early 80's, one of David's first megalomaniac-in-training projects was to assist in the development of the Ice Princess formula? The possibilities are endless! What do you guys think about Dr. David Hayward potentially mixing it up on General Hospital? Sound off in the comments!
