General Hospital: Perkie's Observations
Sam gets a bunch of voice messages from Alexis, but wants to keep the baby news just between her and Jason a little longer. Sam asks if he wants a boy or a girl. However, either one is fine with Jason. Sam wants to go out to the balcony, but the door is stuck. She heads out to see Alexis, while Jason continues to work on the door.
Carly takes Johnny home and notices the piano is missing. Johnny says he got rid of it. It was a gift from Anthony and it had too many memories of Claudia. Carly wonders if it’s smart to get rid of something that keeps him calm. However, Johnny doesn’t want to be calm. Carly says she understands the anger, having been angry about being adopted and wreaking havoc on Bobbie’s life.
Johnny says it’s not the same as having been lied to. Carly says Claudia loved him and not to let the anger fest until it destroys him and everyone around him. Johnny thinks its what he deserves for loving Claudia, since she was responsible for Michael’s coma and prison term. Carly says Claudia was a manipulative bitch, but she doesn’t want Johnny to ruin his life.
Johnny thinks Carly feels responsible. She guiltily asks why he would think that. Johnny says she always blames herself when Sonny goes off the handle and feels she needs to clean up his messes.
Matt’s tired of defending his relationship with Elizabeth, but Maxie feels Liz has turned him against her. Matt says he doesn’t want to break up, but they can’t fight anymore. He can’t take her paranoia. Maxie mentions Liz putting Matt’s job on the line when he helped her with Lucky’s drug case. Matt says at least Liz listens to him and gives a damn.
Maxie complains that Matt’s always at the hospital. He asks if she’s jealous of his patients now too. Matt doesn’t like that she’s so insecure and can’t handle his friendship with Liz, who’s easy to have a conversation with. Maxie tells him to admit that he has feelings for Liz, but Matt says he doesn’t have to compete for her attention. Maxie says Liz makes her look like a shrew. Matt says he’s tired of defending himself all the time, since she always thinks he’s lying to her. Maybe they shouldn’t be together. Matt declares them over.
Liz and Cam are eating at Kelly’s, but he’s not paying attention to her. She gets angry and takes his game away. He snarks that daddy let him play with it. Ewen shows up and the two discuss Cam’s bad attitude since Lucky left. Ewen says Cam is testing her and she needs to set clear boundaries.
Liz talks about losing Jake, jumping back into work too soon, Cam being angry with her and how she doesn’t know how to help him. Ewen assures her that things will get better and holds Liz’s hand. Liz talks about needing Lucky and how she needs to look elsewhere for help now. She knows her problems wouldn’t all disappear if Lucky came back and that she needs to move on.
Ewen tells her to shatter her past and open herself to new possibilities. They talk about the pulmonary benefit and Liz says maybe she’ll see him there. Ewen asks her to go with him.
Alexis wants Molly to join her at the pulmonary benefit, but Molly thinks she should invite someone like Mac to go with her. Alexis wants her to blow off schoolwork once in awhile and be a kid. Alexis thinks Molly needs some balance.
Dante wonders if Johnny set fire to the pier or if Sonny did for the insurance money. Delores asks if it’s something that Sonny would do. Dante feels Sonny is capable of anything. He is angry to see that Sonny is going ahead with the pulmonary benefit.
Delores feels it’s for a worthy cause and at least Sonny is helping people. However, Dante doesn’t want mob money donated in his name, nor does he want Sonny to buy his way into his life. Dante asks what Eddie said about Delores being attacked, but she says she didn’t tell her husband the truth. She’s still angry that she was attacked and it could be the same person who killed her sister since it’s the same MO.
Delores thinks it would sometimes be good to go above the law, like Sonny does. Dante tells her that it’s tempting to break rules, but she wouldn’t be able to live with herself. Delores calls Johnny and leaves him a message that she’s interested in his help.
Monica shows up at Jason’s, since she hasn’t heard from him in days and is concerned about the tests. She asks if he’s had any symptoms. Jason claims he’s fine. Monica spots a baby magazine and asks if Sam is pregnant. She is thrilled when Jason says she is. Monica hopes she’ll be able to see the child. Jason assures her that he wants her to be part of the baby’s life, but they’ll need to accept that the baby will be a Morgan and not a Q heir. Monica points out that the baby is a Quartermaine, but Jason only wants the baby to be loved and not have high expectations.
Monica hopes the baby is as wonderful as Jason was. She misses the old Jason but has accepted the man he is now. She just wants to be part of the family. Jason assures her she will be. He tells her he’ll call after the sonogram. Monica congratulates them and leaves. Jason finally gets the balcony door open and finds the package from Franco.
Sam visits with Alexis, who asks how she’s feeling. Sam says the morning sickness has been okay. Molly overhears and is excited about the pregnancy and wants to tell Kristina. Molly gives Sam a list of baby names, character names from her favorite books.
Johnny puts music on, but then changes his mind. Carly thinks they do need music and puts it back on and gets Johnny to dance with her. When they start getting closer she decides she needs to go. He asks her to leave, stops her at the door and they start kissing.
Maxie finds Monica at the hospital and tells her she has something she needs to tell her about a member of her staff.
Jason’s angry with the package, heads over to the fireplace, and falls down. Sam comes home to find him on the ground.

Somebody should really get Jason some prune juice, and tell him to increase the fibre in his diet.

I loved the Davis girl scenes. I love how easy NLG and KM are together.
I don't like Ewen's constant back and forth and mind games he seems to be playing.
I hope Mataxie are broken up for good and I'm super pissed that it seems Maxie is going to tell Monica that Liz took some drugs. I'm betting that Lucky's involvement in that will be downplayed, so once again, Liz gets in trouble thanks to Lucky.
Finally saw some chemistry between Carly and Johnny, but he needs to shave that scruff off, as does Matt.
Jason's an idiot. Way to downplay your symptoms then have your highly stressed pregnant wife find you and have to deal with it.

Argh. So, Maxie has replaced Siobhan in the 'crazy chick stalking and torturing Liz just because.' Will Maxie make some false accusation against Liz or will Monica jump to some conclusion as she is more than happy to hurt Liz? Charging Liz with any type of indiscretion would be absurd, especially when Monica has had the majority of her affairs with staff at GH and Maxie was working at GH when she stole medication to hook Lucky on drugs!
I would have preferred that Liz and Maxie would have come to some mutual respect after the reveal of Aiden's paternity and after they were kidnapped by those drug dealers in September but instead Maxie has been regressed in this misguided vendetta against Liz who has DONE NOTHING TO HER. The writing of this 'rivalry' is completely one-sided with Maxie being out of control over Matt Hunter when they don't even seem to like each other. Can Maxie be backburnered until the writing improves?

Maxie isn't really stalking Liz though she is dissing Liz to any and everyone she encounters. Deep down, I truly believe that Maxie knows Liz isn't after her man. She simply doesn't want to accept the idea that she could be losing the attention of any man.
Remember when Matt 'disappeared' to attend to his VIP research patient? Maxie confirmed that Matt couldn't be with Liz as she was recovering in the hospital from her near drowning. Upon Matt's return, Maxie accused him of cheating on her with someone other than Liz. Matt denied her claim, told her he was working on his research project. Maxie continued to ask for the name of the person he was cheating with.
I really want Maxie's attack on Liz to end. I was grateful for Liz's scenes with Ewen as I got to hear her POV on how she is facing her life with her family. She mentioned Jake and how much it hurt to have to face his empty room after his death yet she did so because she had to show Cam that life goes on. She acknowledged returning to work too soon as a way of escape and the difficulty she's having in moving forward cause she's so used to the familiarity of the 'idealized' past. She noted Cam's anger and his struggles since Lucky left. Ewen's gentle recommendations were helpful to her. I'm glad he was there to offer a new perspective and that she was receptive to his advice. I would love to see more scenes between her and Cam especially during this time of discord between mother and son. I want to see if/how Liz manages to rewin her son's trust instead of these countless scenes of Maxie bashing Liz.

I thought Sam was a breath of fresh air when she got shown with her family in this episode. KM shines when her character actually gets to be shown with a smile on her face. Then she had to go home to Saint Jason and the mood and lightness was ruined. Sam's character probably won't get to smile again for months.
Also liked Ewen asking Liz out! I hope she goes with him, because you know special ballgown events in PC always end up with someone taking a bullet or dying somehow, and I think she's got a better chance of Ewen jumping in front of her to take a bullet than Matt, who would probably dive behind her.
Can I just say that I loved, loved, loved the blue military type jacket Delores was wearing in this episode! Loved it!

@mecasey: All good points. I am just so tired of Liz getting bashed over and over in the writing. Maxie has seemed to take up Siobhan's old mantle of going to Liz's job to hurl insults and now accusations in effort to place her job in jeopardy. It's all way too much. I like Liz and Maxie and tired of the repetition. It really hurts Maxie as a character because she has regressed greatly and does actually exhibit signs of mental illness (I admit it was funny the other day when Ewen offered up his business card!) I have really disliked the way Maxie has been written since before Kristen Storms went on medical leave. The whole losing Sam's engagement ring nonsense was bad enough but now she's been frontburnered in multiple poor stories. IMO, Maxie is the only female character driving her own story. And I think Jen Lilley is doing a great job but no amount of effort can make Maxie fun right now.

Matt is Maxie's man?? How can I tell if she has genuine feelings for anyone? She's the human definition of a pool skimmer.

LOVED the Jasam scenes!!!
Enjoyed the Molly and Alexis scenes! And I loved the Molly/Sam/Alexis scenes!! The mother/daughter bond is so strong you can tell the talented actors are all good friends outside of GH. I just love the Davis girls family scenes!!!
The Carly/Johnny scenes were HOT!!! The sexual tension is so thick between them you can cut it with a knife! I can't wait to see where that last passionate kiss leads to!!! And I do hope that Johnny buys himself a new piano! I miss hearing him play it!
Wonderful scenes with Monica and Jason! I love that Sam and the new baby are bringing Jason closer to his mother!!
So another package from Franco... are TPTB trying to tell us that the psycho-clown is still alive?

I half-expected Cam to b***h slap and call his mother a "HO" like every other character does. I have never been a huge Liz fan but all of the bashing that goes on makes me want to root for her. The constant mean spiritedness and double standard for Liz was insulting three months ago, now it's just repetitive and boring. And now we get to look forward to Liz being suspended. A story that was rumored MONTHS ago but now we get to see it play out. Things are so terribly slow and painfully paced. Here's hoping Liz finds a fighting streak and body slams the next one who passes judgment.
Steve Burton appears to have taken the notion of under-acting and run away with it. If less is more then he's giving an award winning performance. But it's so less that there's nothing there. An actor buying time until he moves on? As if it weren't hard enough to conjure up compassion for a killer who rides on his boss' jockstrap, we now have to figure out how to have compassion for a man as stoic as he is bronze, a man who shows his "love" for his recently victimized wife by making her "maybe rape" about him. Sam has to ask: would you have really been able to raise Franco's son. The woman MUST submit to her man's wishes (at least on this misogynistic show) and must always recognize that what he feels is paramount. SICK. I don't blame SB for checking out of this horrible story. But it's no less painful to watch him do it. Thank God for fast forward buttons!
Johnny + Carly: no words for how non-character driven this story is. It boggles the mind. I'm glad some find it smoking hot because it just makes me cold. BB could have hot chemistry with peeling wall paper. LW is a very good soap actress. But those are the only compliments I can think of to give this new coupling. It's like the writers asked: which two characters haven't had sex then put these two together. Or maybe it was because Carly hasn't had enough sex with mobsters. Maybe it's because we haven't seen her endanger her children enough and they thought adding another mobster to her sexual resume would endear her to viewers. And the sad part is that it's all set up to give Sonny the big over-reaction scene when he finds out his enemy is banging his baby momma. Because, it's gotta be about the men on GH! What woman wouldn't want two killer mobsters fighting over who did her better? Well, that's what the writers at GH think of women anyway.
Carly needs to be allowed to mature. She can keep all of the psychological baggage and manipulation she came on the show with. But viewers need to see some maturity, not a 40 something woman going around acting like a teenager and banging every mobster who winks at her. Viewers need a reason to LOVE TO HATE Carly or we need a reason to root for her. Right now, I just want her off my screen. And I say that as a person who was a Carly fan from the minute she tried to steal her momma's man. Let her grow up already!
Can Maxie just move on from Matt? It's like they want her to be Lisa Niles junior with her obsession for him and her revenge over not being able to have him. Let's hope absentee parents Frisco and Felecia return to PC during May sweeps for an intervention for this sad one-note woman acting like a spoiled teenager dumped on prom night.
It all boils down to one question for me: has anyone on this writing staff EVER met a real woman?

Great post SoapFan! This weekend I erased all of my unwatched taped episodes from the past month and I am seriously considering doing the same with this past week. I have taken to reading Perkie's observations and recaps from Soap Central's site. It's funny, even reading the recaps is hard to do. At least with my tapes, I could fast forward. Now I find myself reading and rolling my eyes.

Soapfan..I agree with you about Carly & Johnny. There is NO story there because it is clear to me TIIC took a script that was meant for Johnny & Lulu and took Lulu out and FORCED Carly into it.She just does not fit because the dialog is OOC for Carly and it is exactly what Lulu would say to Johnny. In fact it is almost the exact same dialog from last April when Lulu went to visit Johnny at his penthouse to talk to him about Micheal. The bottom line is Car/John do not fit.

Given how much Cam has been through in his short life is it any wonder he is a sullen little boy? ALL he said was dad would have let me play - thats common in divorce - little kids testing mom and dad to see how easily they can play one off against the other. I hardly see that as the anti-pimp hand or the writers practically having cam calling his mom a ho. And had Cam called his mom a ho and his dad a douchebag, well lets look at it from HIS pov. From HIS pov, he is on track to ironically turn out much like maxie for exactly the same reasons - lucky is off being the non-existant "cool" dad out having his adventure, mom is somewhat reluctantly here, trying to make it work with some version of a stable type guy (lucky when hes being home bound lucky or a matt type being her version of mac) when she really wants adventure guy like jason or road type version of lucky (that being her version of frisco or luke)
As for maxie - lets see what she tells and what liz gets in trouble for. If monica suspends her for what she actually did, isnt that the risk she took? I actually think it was the decent thing to do, helping the father of her child, and I think matt should be mad at maxie for betraying his trust, BUT that said, how many times does Liz get to break the rules and get her actions covered? If Monica is told the truth, shouldnt she suspend her? Isnt it a privacy violation to read jasons medical records and isnt a violation of federal law to steal drugs? Its one thing if she gets framed for something she did not do - then maxie would deserve all the slams shes got coming.

Maxie's not telling because it's the right thing to do, she's doing it because she thinks she lost Matt to Liz. Also, she didn't say boo when Robin was COS, but is telling Monica, who already has a thing against Liz.
It's never about doing the right thing with MAxie.

I think it's funny that anyone thinks that Liz gets away with a lot when pretty much every skank in town runs around calling her a slutty, needy, man-stealing whore every chance they get. The last thing Liz got away with was hitting Zander over the head....and he had it coming because he was using his unborn child as a bargaining chip to get Emily back.
I've watched soaps most of my life, and I have never seen a character so disparaged and crapped on for things that the rest of the characters do on a regular basis.
Maxie is doing this out of revenge and spite. That is wrong. I don't recall Liz turning Maxie in to the Chief of Staff for providing Lucky drugs way back when. Maxie is being a petulant child, and she is not even considering the impact this will have on Cam and Aiden. Is she going to pay for food, clothing, etc for the boys while their mom is out of work? I don't think so.
And I haven't even seen Monica's reaction yet, but I know that it is going to piss me off. She is such a hypocritical bitch now. Monica has become nothing more than another sycophant standing in line to kiss St. Jasus's holy ass. It's disgusting the way they have gutted this character and turned her into a caricature of her former self.

On a more positive note, I loved the Liz/Cam/Ewen scenes. The scenes with Cam and Liz were so real and relatable. I've been the single mom taking the brunt of the anger and sadness the child feels when the dad walks away for a long time now. It sucks, and RH's acting choices were spot on. She expressed the frustration, sadness and resentment perfectly.
I also enjoyed the conversation between Ewen and Liz. It was a meaningful conversation that actually showed some awareness and growth. I also liked the way the tables were turned and this time it was Ewen trying to convey to an oblivous Liz that he wanted to accompany her to the party.

Monday...ready to go up the hill that is PC...can't get off... may as well
ride...
I think she has a pathological fear of being without a man. I may be misreading her reaction, but these scenes seemed to have Maxie frothing at the mouth. And, yes, while Matt should take some blame for this "break up", this obsessive hatred toward Liz is, for my taste, excessive. And this coming from one who realy likes Maxie. Even when he takes her to a quiet area, it ends up being a dead end: "You are so insecure...Maybe we shouldn't be together..." "You told me..." "This is broken...It's over."
Walking away, I don't think he's aware of the fuse he's just lit. Her tears don't spill and her face hardens to a look that says "This isn't over." One only has to hear her words to Monica at the hub: "There's something you should know..." About Liz? Matt? Pick one...
What parent, guardian or teacher hasn't dealt with a recalitrant child at some point? The presence of the video game doesn't help either as out put upon Nurse Webber tries to engage her eldest child in bothe conversation and good manners. Ewan's arrival gives her some insight not just in how to deal with Cam "...set clear boundries..it's his turn to shut down...", but her own loss "...You can't keep looking to Lucky for the solutions..." "So where do I look?" It's not a come on, it's an honest, from the heart query from a woman desperate for some answers, not just about her how to deal with her son, but also without the man who's been an integral part of her
life for at least half of it. And though there have been others, this ones'
roots are deep. Ewan's inviting her to the "benebribe ball"? I'm not sure if it's honest or something else...
The Davis girls collectively were just a joy to observe. There is a lightness between these three that is real, from Molly accusing Alexis of viewing her as "a nerd." "You're not...you're scholarly.", to the unbridled giddiness over Sam's slip up in announcing her pregnancy. The baby names leading to the discussion of TJ was both funny and not without irony. When Molly leaves the room and Sam asks:"...Mr. Teenage Rebellion?...Why are you leting her hang out with him?" No ofense but I found this amusing considering who she's married to. Alexis response is clasic: "These are the decisions that you have to make when you're a mother. Good luck." I loved how KM's Sam comforted NLG's about to burst into tears mother: "...You're a good mom..." "...It's not you, it's me." I don't think she's refering to the hot flashes...
It was sweet how much SBu's enforcer was open to including Monica in his good news. The eye roll and exasperation for Edward's inclusion was expected but handled like "Oh, all right." As important as it is for he and Sam to raise their child "as a Morgan", they won't be able to forget
that Q bloodline. With him passing out over the arrival of another "gift" from "the Pest", this brain injury may put him out of commission until they get it under control. If they get it under control...
It stil grates on him. "...it's a bribe...I don't want mob money donated in my name!" And Padilla surprises D (and frankly me too), with her response: "At least he's doing something that's going to help." (I detect a bit of an ironic tone here.) He throws his hands up verbally: "...you sound like Lulu..." " I knew I liked that girl.", needling him. He notes how there's always a catch and how he almost lost his life again over this connection. She allows "...another unsolved mystery..." "...he never pays." "So far." They go back to the assault case which grates on her. He asks after her injury and is taken aback when she admits she didn't tell Eddie. (Methinks there is no Eddie.)She brushes him off and grows agitated
over the "restrictions" the law is placing on their progress. He dissuades her: "...it's tempting to break the rules (which he himself knows)...it's
not who you are, it's not what your sister would want." But, (and I find this annoying, sad, and infuriating at the same time-Thank you GW via Guza), she gives in to that temptation that John ofered. She calls, leaves a message. "That information?...I'm interested."...
Temptation of another sort is the running undercurrent between John and Carly. From the absence of the piano to that slow dance they share, this road they're on is fraught with uncertainty and an undeniable intrigue. She's his "guide" in dealing with the massive upheaval in his life, at the same time she's hiding her own role in it. He's navigating unfamiliar territory that is the "litle boy lost" grasping for anything that resembles "normal" and "comfort". Stopping her from leaving "You don't have to go." "...I do.", is a hand reaching for the life line she represents for him. When he kisses her and she responds, it's clear it's developped into something more. Just what isn't as clear. Only that it's
a lot more complicated...
Got your Valentines' gifts?...Hope so...
Swan!
