UMPH!
To me them bringing a few old GH favorites back was to try and soften the blow to their adding on the OLTL characters. It was like see if we bring back Finola Hughes, Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms then they won't be too upset at the fact that we brought over some OLTL characters. But that's just me.

Hope and pray she gets to see those three years out! The Revolution is just mind numbing. The hosts have no chemistry or dynamic. I couldn't even get through a segment.
I say nix The Revulsion, move GH to 1230 so it can compete with Y&R. Millionaire to 130pm, Chew to 2pm (although it should be canned too), Katie at 3. There ya go.

I bet Starr will be singing within one week after being on GH!...

I posted over on another thread that if GH had been cancelled and Frons was still running things then we would see GH and AMC actors over at OLTL. We have several AMC actors now over on Y&R who probably would have ended up on GH.
KA is a 13 year veteran over at OLTL and is not yet 21 which means she is in the age bracket most wanted by advertisers. Starr is a very popular OLTL character.
The economy is crappy and a job is a job is a job!

And here we go again....started watching DOOL when they brought Chrystal Chappelle over from Guiding Light. Watched OLTL when they brought over Kim Zimmer. What happens? Ms. Chappelle gets the boot to bring back the talentless gruesome twosome (no names needed, but these two are the reason I've never been a days fan). OLTL gets cancelled. If I'd have known how great OLTL was I'd have dumped ATWT long before it's cancellation. I refuse to follow Starr over to GH. I didn't like that show way back in the days of Luke & Laura...so I'm not about to watch it now. That was the one that should have been cancelled. Sorry...I'd follow OLTL anywhere but not to Port Charles (unless they slowly replace the entire GH cast).

Don't be fooled folks. Multi-Year deals don't mean a thing at ABC. If you remember, Ron and Frank signed two year deals with ABC for OLTL, but this could just be two years at ABC to usher out their remaining soaps.
Also, Lorraine Broderick had a two year deal at ABC to pen AMC, and look what happened.
So these 'deals' don't mean anything. I hear GH is pretty much history in its current incarnation.

Just spit coffee all over my keyboard, reading your suggestion to move GH to 12:30pm, pitting it against YR. I thought the object was to SAVE the show?

KingsMinon - uhhh - I almost spit my coffee out also. What would happen then if both shows were on at 12:30. Shutter to think and wonder what true soap fans are thinking. Lets just get ourselves another cup of coffee.

And I am very happy for Kristen. She is a good actress and I cant wait to see star in Port Charles.

Hope the coffee's cleaned up. GH at its best can easily rival Y&R. And if FV/RC can do what they did for OLTL I think it can give Y&R competition. So maybe it's wishful thinking and I'm just putting the cart before the horse, which I probably am. I'm just eager to see things turn around. GH at its worst has always been better than a lot of other soaps. Granted, it is pretty pitiful right now so I understand your shock and awe at my suggestion.
I've just always wondered how Y&R remains consistently over and above all the other soaps. It's produced well, but there has never been anything THAT special about it to have such higher #s than the other soaps.

OLTL looked better than GH and had a dramatically smaller budget. If FV can bring some of his production talent to GH the show could look very different.

MISSINGTHEOLDGH - I just dont understand why you suggested pitting Y&R and GH against each other. Why be rivals? I watch them both. If they were both on at the same time, I would have to DVR both of them at the same time, which is all my DVR would allow and for an hour, no one would be able to watch the TV that Im using, which is the main one. Then take some other folk who do not have taping devices, they would have to choose one over the other if they watch them both. One will go down. I dont want either one to go down. We've had enough of that. I guess you have your reasons, but I want to see them both survive and stay on for a long time to come,. Forgive me if Im not understanding.

I had to get my thoughts together for this post.I am pretty sure GH only fans will not be happy and OLTL fans will.I am a big OLTL fan,but I don't know about other characters coming on another show.Sometimes they work[I think Jake worked on ATWT]and sometimes they don't[Amber is a challenge because they shift her personality].Maybe they can use Starr's music interest to bring back Tracey's sons.More Quartermaines would be great.
As I stated before,I'm willing to give GH another shot.Again it is a wait and see situation.

I wonder which GH characters will be let go that's all I'm saying...not speaking about the GH newbies so much for the rap that the Mannings are short term.... this one isn't. Again nothing about GH characters getting a contract its all about OLTL OOps I'm sorry GH.

I hope it all works out for her, but surprised Maria didn't cast her as Faith on Y&R...It just the matter of time if Maria can find some way to bring Susan Lucci to Genial City as Nikki's sister Casey Reed..
As for GH pls bring Bobbie Spencer back...

DEAD @ her thinking the show will exist after 2012!!!
I cannot AND will not put up with her so-called "singing". that will only drive more viewers away.

I don't know what to think about this. Would a three year contract cover some sort of programing commitment being developed after GH is canceled? This seems to fly in the face of the "unspoken notice" that PC will soon go the way of Llanview and Pine Valley per Anne Sweeney...

GIOGIO - I've always just been curious to see how a good GH would fare against Y&R which has been #1 for almost 24 years. As I said, I'm just perplexed at how Y&R, although good, outnumbers the others by leaps and bounds. What's their secret? lol I've never understood the distinguishing factor.
I wasn't thinking in terms of how it would effect the shows which I guess I should because I don't want to see anymore shows gone either. I appreciate them all and always have. Faithful GH devotee since '89. So it was nothing more than me thinking out loud bc I've always wanted GH to reclaim the #1 spot that they lost to Y&R back in 1988. Had nothing to do with strategizing or wanting to see another soap's demise. I just know that GH is gonna have to go somewhere if it gets a resurgence bc Katie's got their slot. I get that there's more work to be done than worrying about overtaking Y&R, trust me. My support is behind the genre in whole.

I agree. ABCD is doing what they always do with their actors/staff, "Oh, we'll promise you the moon and stars, but won't actually deliver and then pull the rug from under your ass when you least expect it. Right after we lie to you some more, of course."
I love her, so I hope she's got other deals in the works now that she's in LA.

MISSINGTHEOLD GH - Got Ya! I get your point now. Actually, I have always watched only abc soaps. Never watched anything else. But last April when they canceled the shows, I started watching Y&R and I immediately became in love, and impressed with it. It struck me as pure juice. Very juicy story lines. Everyone is so quiet and reserved, vicious and so crazy that it makes it so good. I havent in a very long time enjoyed Fridays cliffhangers, like I enjoy Y&R. And up until a few years ago GH was like that. Heres hoping they can get back to that.

I like it, I just wish she wasn't playing Star. She should be Serena Bladwin for Pete's sake...
See, I don't mind these OLTL'ers coming to GH, I think that it is a GREAT idea, & hopefully some of their fans will follow, so that GH can get a much needed ratings boost.
What I DON'T like is that they are playing their same characters. ME as McBain is ridic b/c he sucks as a character (too much "you look pretty" hands on hips with gum chewing for me). I LOVED ME as Caleb on PC, and he and KeMo have awesome chemistry (they STILL have it as evidenced by those dumbass webisode vids where they had "Sam" & "John" stuck in an elevator-- HAWT!), so like I said, I don't mind him coming on, just play someone else, hell he can even still be a cop. I just thought (& hoped) that I was finally effin' rid of John McBain's terrible ass.
And ugh, Starr. I LOVED her, but once they gave her her baby back, she has completely sucked. Now how is she gonna be mobbin' it up in PC to compete with the other girls with her baby on her hip (that u only see once a month)!! No thanks. The only teen mom I want to see on my show is the one that Michael knocks up himself!
Basically, what they should do is bring on these actors from AMC & OLTL & ATWT/GL to play characters that we care about but haven't seen in awhile (like the Q's, Serena B, her younger sister Cristina, etc.) instead of hiring these no talented nobodies to play our "newbies". I cannot for the life of me figure out why we haven't seen Erin Hershey (played lead role Alison on PC) on any soap, but yet all these no talented hacks keep hogging up the airwaves. Maybe we wouldn't have hated Maggie or TLIW (haha, couldn't type that with a straight face, we would have still hated her) or Delores or Abby or whomever else of the 30 new characters that a soap adds to its show every year if they were played by a familiar face (of a beloved character we once loved!). Yes, I know vets get paid more than a fresh-faced newbie, but I would tell these ppl that a job is a job & if you want THIS job you have to take THIS job's pay (i.e. the same pay that I would give to that newbie). People have families to feed & something tells me that some of them would take that damn pay cut if it meant steady work.
And I am not saying that they should do this with all the newbies (I mean, everybody was a "newbie" at some point), but they should definitely do this for the majority. We are in the End Times people, and we have to play hard or go home.

OK. A 3-year deal is meaningless regardless of whether GH lives for the next 20 years! Why? Because actors' contracts are up for renewal every 13 weeks. The 3-year contract offers little guarantee for the actor. It's all in favor of the studio/network. Moreover, as both Sony & ABC have shown, they are willing to break contracts to force actors to pay cuts by threatening to no renew the actor at the end of her/his 13-week cycle.
At the moment, given the Revulsion's horrible ratings, there is a greater likelihood that GH won't be cancelled at it is moved 2PM EST/1PM CT (OLTL's old time slot). However, ABC could still just give the hour back to its affiliates.

My wish for GH is that cbs or nbc comes in and takes them. I dont feel anyone should be cursed working for the likes of ABC. I would be so happy if that happened, then they can pat themselves on the ass watching the Chew and the revulsion. Hows that for a woman scorned.

Joss THANK YOU thats exactly right...all this means is that we have starr in some shape for 13 weeks. and lets be real here, abby was a newbie. the character of michael is tied to no less than THREE major families and has been a part of the canvas for decades so hes not going anywhere. He has to have people his age to interact with and serena would have been too old, but lets say for the sake of argument serena would have been a better choice. I think the argument can be made that starr is a far better option than casting a mob princess - aka the rumored solito family member. At least she will be part of the l&b world and maybe will pull michael out of angry mob wannabe mode and into the quartermaine business world, interacting potentially with dillon and/or ned (which is what most of us say we want)
so again, Im saying lets not be negative before we see how it plays out.

I've often thought that the key to Y&Rs success is the fact that they are on during the lunch hour in most markets. I do think GH would do better in that time slot. . . .always have. And, I don't think Y&R is a better show than GH. People complain about Sonny being a show stealer. But, what about Victor? I've never understood his appeal. He's a thug in a business suit w/o the gun. The acting is over the top and the pacing is too slow. It looks good. . . That's about it.
I'm glad that Star is coming to GH. Hopefully, she can pull Michael out of his current tailspin. I think they could be HOT! And, I'm totally in the denial about GH cancellation rumors. I'll pretend it's for 3 years, thank you very much.
