One of Hollywood's most iconic leading ladies proved she's no snob when it comes to daytime soaps last night. After taking home the Golden Globe for her performance in The Iron Lady, Meryl Streep showed All My Children superstar and fellow awards show staple Susan Lucci some love in the press room. From Deadline:
Turning to Streep’s numerous Oscar nominations, comparisons to Susan Lucci and that actress’ evasive Emmy for All My Children emerged during the Q&A. ”You know, I’m sure Susan Lucci is happy with her career and the longevity and fulfillment it has given her and that’s sort of how I feel,” Streep said.
And here I thought I couldn't love Streep any more than I did after The Devil Wears Prada! Have you gone to see The Iron Lady yet?

Susan Lucci was the QUEEN of daytime, as Meryl Streep is the QUEEN of feature films! If you're gonna do something, why not be the BEST at it? Susan Lucci wasn't necessarily the BEST soap actress, but she was the most beloved and iconic.

Absolutely no comparison between these 2. Streep is one of the greatest actresses ever. Who cares if Lucci was on 1 soap for 40 years. Her stories were usually all laughable and the 1 emmy she got was a pity emmy. Notice she never even got nominated again afterwards?

Y2Jin99--
Actually, you are incorrect. She WAS nominated twice after she won in 1999 (2001 and 2002.) Of course, she didn't win again. I know you're not a Susan Lucci fan, so I won't bother trying to debate you on your other points....just setting the record straight. I normally disagree with your views, but I respect your right to think what you want. Susan Lucci has always been one of my soap faves!! To each his or her own.

La Lucci, the best. It saddens me sometimes how some want to bash Susan just to bash Susan, it's completely uncalled for which thank the sweet Lord we have people like Meryl which without question is the best actor of her generation to give some love to Susan & the soap industry. She must know how it's affecting the unemployment of so many hundreds of people because having a up close look from family. Thank you Ms. Streep.

Alstonboy I am certainly no lover of Susan Lucci's acting. One of the reasons why I didn't watch AMC. It was grating. But Susan Lucci is definately one of the monarchs of daytime and certainly one of it's most famous denizens. She could get publicity for daytime and that in itself is a feat. I do not harbor one negative thing for the woman and sincerly give her much credit for keeping AMC and soaps in general on tv longer than maybe they would have without her. She is a Diva in the best sense and has undoubtably years ahead of her in the entertainment field. She will be the Betty White of the 21st century lol.

One may not like La Lucci but only an idiot would argue her impact on this genre. She was this genre's greatest ambassador and has NEVER said anything condescending or negative about soap fans.
Ask nearly anyone with a pulse who Erica Kane is and they can tell you. How many soap characters can you say that about?
