Phylicia Rashad Remembers Her Time on One Life to Live
By Luke Kerr on January 13, 2012
The Cosby Show icon and One Life to Live alum Phylicia Rashad stopped by Good Day LA on January 12. During the visit the show played a clip from her time in Llanview and asked her about that period in her life. Watch the wonderful interview after the jump!

Phylicia Rashad is a national treasure. Her role as Claire Huxtable was an inspiration for women of color and for women in general.
For the academy not to have given her a lifetime achievement Emmy by now is a serious oversight.

@alstonboy4315: I could build a soap around her. And i'd be stealing Renee Jones, James Reynolds, Kristoff Saint John, Darnell Williams and Debbie Morgan to get it off. I'd also contact Victoria Rowell, Tamera Tunie and Amelia Marshall to join the cast. Because Phylicia has what it takes to play a diva matriarch, who inherits and runs her dead husband's company with an iron fist.

You are killing me softly with that wonderful image of what COULD and SHOULD be.............

Wow, David that would be AWESOME! Add in Stephanie E. Williams and let me know if you'd need a scriptwriter (LOL).
At the very least Ms. Rashad has a TONY award, so some people are smart enough to recognize talent!
I can excuse her for not remembering what's going on, she seems quite busy. Her kid (who may be one of the few interesting aspects of the play) is on B'way and she's got some projects of her own going on.

@David just imagine Tanya Boyd or Lynn Whitfield as Rashad's character's archenemy.

@akbad806: Yes Tanya Boyd would be a good archenemy. Yes that would work.

Love her! I agree, she doesn't seem to age! And it's great seeing the greats like her and Lawrence Fishburn thankful for their time on OLTL.

Oh you got my wheels turning now!!!!! What would the show be called? And what kind of business would Phylicia oversee? This would be juicy if even just a fan fic. Also, Mechad Brooks and Brook Kerr as a hot, young black supercouple would be FIYAH!!!!!
Why in the hell are we not a headwriting team?!? With us, OLTL and AMC might still be alive

@MsAgentProvocateur1: Always need a script writer and S. Williams would be a great addition. From the moment I saw Phylicia on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun, I kept thinking that daytime needed to pick her back up. So I would sure cast her as the the lead.

@alstonboy4315 & everyone: Call the soap South Shore. Referring to the upper-class largely African American neighborhood in Chicago where Michelle Obama is from.

It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it: I volunteer to do the casting of the male characters. Since this sounds more like a primetime soap than daytime, you would have to have Blair Underwood, Mehcad Brooks, and Nate Parker--not well-known but if you saw the movie Pride you'd understand why
.
(And my Vanessa Williams and Diahann Carroll have to gueststar occasionally. Nobody plays crazy like Lynn Whitfield. She needs to play a character that was traumatized at some time in the past and is seeking revenge.)
Also, who better than Philicia's real-life sister, Debbie Allen, to play her sister on the show?

I agree 1000%. Phylicia Rashad is certainly a national, heck, I'd wager a GLOBAL treasure. I have seen her stage work in both Raisin In The Sun and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and she was AMAZING. And I agree, that it is a TRAVESTY Ms. Rashad does not have at least one Emmy for playing Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show and changing the cultural fabric of America. A travesty.

And they have to cast Debbie Allen SEXY son. That boy is too fine not to be on tv! I will watch Ms. Rashad in anything.
I love the casting for that show just as long as they do have Vivica (I ruined my face) Fox on there.
Also don't let Tyler Perry produce or write it!

Phylicia is wonderful. Her Courtney Wright character was grossly & shamefully UNDERUSED on OLTL. Bless You, Phylicia!

@cantearlizdown: Hell Naw to Tyler Perry or they Phylicia's character will end up having been molested and the son raped in prison. And they will need a poor sistah to set these high-siddy black people straight.

Speaking of Vivica, I still don't get why some women in the business do that. It almost never looks natural; and when you're high-profile, people KNOW your true age. The only person you're fooling is yourself.
I suppose they can't all be as classy as Phylicia.
