DC's Top 10 Female Entertainers of 2012

No. 5: Florencia Lozano, One Life to Live and General Hospital
Florencia Lozano wasn’t on our TV screens as much as we would have liked in 2012, but the One Life to Live star and General Hospital special guest made the most of her time as Tea Delgado on both soaps. While OLTL ended with Tea pregnant and mourning the loss of a very-much-alive Victor Lord Jr. (Trevor St. John), the story didn't end in Llanview.
Tea arrived in Port Charles, New York to defend beloved, former stepdaughter Starr Manning (Kristen Alderson) on charges of attempting to murder mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Once in Port Charles, Tea came face-to-face with Starr's dad, Todd Manning (Roger Howarth) — the man Tea held responsible for Victor's "death" back in Llanview.
Todd wanted desperately to make things right with "Delgado", and found the tragic opportunity to do so when Tea's baby was stillborn one stormy night. At the urging of a deranged Heather Webber (Robin Mattson), Todd agreed to switch Tea's dead infant with Sam McCall Morgan's (Kelly Monaco) son. This set off a chain of events that resulted in Tea ultimately having the son she raised for months being kidnapped by Heather, only to later be ripped away from her for good by Sam and Jason (Steve Burton).
Lozano's performance at the climax of the baby switch storyline cut a swath of volatile emotions into the General Hospital tapestry. We don't know if she'll ever be able to return to GH, or if she'll reprise Tea on the web version of One Life to Live, but we definitely hope to see more of Lozano in 2013.

Nice list. As much as I love Tricia Cast, she barely warranted enough time/quality to land on this list.
Erika Slezak as Viki Buchanan delivering the speech about Fraternity Row/importance of soap operas was one of the finest moments in all of soaps, ever. The penultimate episode of OLTL was a perfect hour of serialized television in my opinion.
I would have included Jen Lilley who portrayed Maxie Jones on GH much of the past year. She portrayed Maxie when the character drove story and she nailed her scenes. She could be overlooked because of the fact she was a temporary recast of a popular character/actress.
I might have included Eileen Davidson as Kristen on DAYS. The start was a jumbled, silly mess but by the time she flirted/bedded Brady, she was the most watchable thing on the show. Eileen Davidson has been the only shining point on DAYS these days.

So excited to see this site of all places, recognize Tricia for her work. She blew me away everytime she was on screen this year. I also am glad to see Melody make the "list", for what it's worth.
The glaring omission from Y and R, and of course there are, would be Sharon Case. Yes, the writing wasn't always the best, but even with that being said, she had fun with a situation where other lesser actresses might have checked out. Even more to her credit is she made every scene believable, while we were cringing for her. Good work.

^^ ABSOLUTELY. Sharon Case is the big, huge glaring omission. Character-assassination aside, she acted the hell out of the material.

All these women deserve the recognition, even Melody Thomas Scott whose Christmas story actually got me to tune in to Maria Arena Bell's Y&R.
What I love most is that the majority of them are over forty.

I presume you must be referring to XMAS 2011, as MAB had nothing to do with the most recent XMAS story?

Que Viva Finola! This woman brought the "lifeblood" to a GH on "life support!" Watching her bring back to us the shrewd, pensive and compelling Anna Devane of the 80s made my nostalgic heart skip a beat! PLEASE KEEP HER for however longer GH lasts!

No idea, and I still don't know which year you mean and if it is 2011 it is a bit late.

Great list except having Kelly Monaco on it is an insult to the others. IMO she is no where near being in their league.

Another perfect list from DC. When I got to #2 I knew #1 had to be Finola. No beats were missed by Ms. Hughes in 2012! Long live, Anna!

Nice list. Good to see Robin Mattson named - she was great this year.
I agree with soapbaby that Eileen Davidson deserves a spot - because she single-handedly makes an un-watchable show watchable when she is on.

Love the strong showing for the GH contingent. My personal favorites from the list (JE and FH) would be interchangeable as number's one and two. Overall, I agree with the majority of who's collected here. My one quibble is with FL who, for my taste, came across like fingernails on a chalkboard. Maybe it's just a case of not being familiar with her work on OLTL. Having said that, should OLTL return to production, I hope the character of Tea Delgado stays strictly in Llanview. But that's me.
If there were a selection for honorable mention, it would have to go to JL who's tenure as Maxie was taken on with short notice and who completed her run with a personal grace and dignity under trying circumstances not of her choosing. Her view of Maxie was different but I found much to enjoy about it with her "holding down the fort", so to speak. She kept Maxie "alive" and viable at a time when she could easily have been taken off canvas...

Sharon Case should definitely be on this list. She had some terrible writing to act with and she was credible and excellent always. She was the female star of YR in 2012.
Amen.
P.S. I definitely agree with Finola as NO.1.Just love this lady on my screen. She adds class and depth to the show.

HANDS DOWN what got me back into GH was what i saw of Finola Hughes -- great list DC.com (better choices than Michael Logan's)! I started back on the Oct episodes right when we see a glimpse of *Duke*, and after 2 days of Anna and how many stories they had her in, i was hooked. Cartini, well done! I do agree that Sharon Case is a glaring omission. Can't blame bad writing on her...

I agree with most of the list, though i would like to have seen KDP make the cut. Im thrilled that my all time fave, FH, was selected number one and that my second fave headed up the story that landed three people on the list - kelly, flo and robin. Finally, last but certainly not least is another of my faves - the incomparable Jane E. She just makes every scene shes in that much better.
As for Susan F. Ive lost almost all interest in Bold since she has left. She is just an amazing actress. I do like JMW as Stephanie's namesake and DD is always awesome but the show lacks a certain pop without stephanie. Heather Tom is a good actress, but i find her a little flat when she isnt given the big story and the character itself is a drip. Erase her and put in KDP and this list would be perfect.

Good choices, but I want to point something out. The entertainment industry is often criticized for not giving older women quality material. Looking at this list 6 of the ladies are over 50. Two are even in their 60s. NONE are in their 20s (the age Hollywood often obsesses over). In comparing it to the men's list the other day which had only 2 actors over 50 and 2 in their 20s it's an interesting commentary on how daytime seems to embrace older roles for women and younger quality roles for men. A reverse of what you see in most other forms of entertainment.

While I'm surprised(not)that GH's ladies took up numerous spots, I'm glad to see that DC continues to recognize Tricia Cast's work; she did indeed turn measly scraps into gold and Nina slapping the hellfire out of Phyllis was the single best moment on Y&R in 2012(yeah, I know, not saying much). As for Sharon Case's omission, I guess I'm in the minority but alot of her work during the Newman takeover s/l seemed equal parts campy and over-the-top(and not in that special way we've come to expect from greats like Robin Mattson); wasn't feeling it at all. Personally, the one glaring omission for me is Eileen Davidson; her initial return was not only not a slow burn but barely a flaming ember but DAYS definitely made up for it when they threw Brady in the picture and ED has been setting every scene on fire since.

Well...it depends on who made the list. If gay men and women 18-49 made the list then its obvious that there are younger men and older women

Booze26, I was going to say that but I didn't want to feel the wrath of the DC crew. It's obvious that their "personalities" affect their choices. When it comes to the men I think it was more about looks than talent.

Ditto, soapbaby...
I thought I was reading my own post that I was just going to write.
Tricia Cast? She was on what, 7 times last year? Let's face it, Cast has 'let herself go'. She used to be the fiery temptress with big breasts who could land a man in bed. She had the sexual savvy to keep the wandering Phillip Chancellor smiling in the late 80s. And with a guy's mind thinking, one semi-envisioned Ryan McNeil being drained in bed by the auburn-haired vixen back in the 90s. But now, not so much. The poor gal even lost Paul to The Bug.
Eileen D should be on the List as being the focal point for 2 Shows. SONY asked MAB and Hogan do both shows, but MAB said NO. Catching Tucker in bed with Harmony, and Ashley's conversations with Abby, made for a great Spring on Y&R. And who doesn't KNOW that DAYS is now watchable because of Kristen bedding down Brady.
Not seeing Michelle Stafford on The List seems strange, since for 6 months half of Y&R revolved around her. And the other 1/2 spun around Sharon, who isnt on The List, either.
So to put Tricia Cast on this List is a joke.

@hey mon: I happen to think Tricia Cast has grown more beautiful. She (and Beth Maitland) are incredibly talented and can out-act the rest of the cast by a country-mile. My only gripe of Cast's placement on the list was because she was barely featured and had nothing to do with her physical appearance.

Nysam, Well I dont hope the DC crew is coming after me. I think they like me actually, because I am a fan of this site and the genre, but lets face it, both lists are typical gay-lists. But it doesnt matter, they are just not quite accurate in my humble opinion.

Well, ofcourse Tricia Cast is a joke on the list. I never thought her acting stood out, but I am in the minority around here. She is overrated, thats my opinion. The people that mentioned Eileen Davidson, Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford are right. I would even put Katherine Kelly Lang on the list, because she had some wonderfull scenes last year.

Totally agree with you, B&B isn't the same w/o Susan Flannery as Stephanie, but I DO enjoy JMW in the role as Steffy when they don't make the character a begging mess for the love of Liam and Heather Tom as Katie never fails to bring it as Katie especially when she's going off on Dolla Bill. Perfect selections to represent B&B.

I agree with the list for the most part.Of course I agree that there were some omissions, like Sharon Case, who made the best of a horrible story and actually made me WANT to watch the trainwreck. And I'd also add Michelle Stafford, solely for her work under the new regime, so for the last couple of months. I've been seeing fiery phyllis who doesn't know what to say out of her mouth and WHEN to say it...and I love it. As much as I hate BWUUKE LOWGAN on B&B, KKL delivered some great material as well.
As for Tricia Cast, I happen to think the woman is just as beautiful TODAY as she was in the 80s. And in my opinion, even back then, she wasn't played as the bombshell or vixen. She was NIna, the no-nonsense REALISTIC character, which is what she is today. I've never been intersted in Nina because of her looks. But her acting is amazing and I'm glad she's on the list.
I will say though, it's a top 10 and I didn't expect to see all of my favorites on the list. In fact, I didn't expect to see anyone but GH'ers on the list, but I was surprised there were a few mixes thrown in there. So good list...

I love this list. Whoever made it. These ladies ARE very talented people.
I really enjoy Kelly Monaco and agree with what was said about her story line. She was excellent. Heather, and Tea were great as well. Love Sam though. Hate when she's bashed. Shes no more of a whore than the rest of em. My girl Carly and Liz included. I wonder why she was the only one mention in past times as being a slut? Huh. But I love the way Carly described Liz to Jason when she found out that Liz was sleeping with Nicholas while engaged to Lucky. But N-E Way, all these ladies are talented!! Love it.

^^ Clearly, you haven't watched GH throughout Sam's entire run. She's a completely propped-up character who ACTUALLY married rich men to swindle them out of their fortunes, has had revenge sex with her stepfather, revenge sex with her rival's husband (Lucky) and when she first came to Port Charles, she slept with both Jax and a married Sonny at the same time, not knowing the paternity of her unborn baby's father! All of her character history has been ignored or whitewashed while Liz, in particular in recent years, and Carly have been repeatedly called whores by other characters on the canvas. Sam may be "bashed" by some commenters but only as much as Liz and not nearly as much as Carly.
