DC's Top 10 Female Entertainers of 2011

No. 10: Kim Matula, The Bold and the Beautiful
Kimberly Matula has moved up the ranks on The Bold and the Beautiful as someone you can't relegate as just a pretty face. Since her 2010 debut on the fashion world sudser, Matula has proven she can roll with the best of them, regardless of the storyline. While dealing with the retread of B&B's teen storyline, featuring Amber/Liam/Hope/Oliver, Matula's skills in acting were so palpable opposite Adrienne Frantz; it felt as though the storyline was focused on her character, instead of Scott Clifton's Liam! Unlike some of her co-stars, Matula dished out amazing performances with powerhouse Katherine Kelly Lang, as Hope blamed Brooke's vixen ways for being the cause of her frigid about sex. She also showed off her skills while chastising Hunter Tylo's Taylor for her bratty daughter Steffy's (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) behavior. Matula is proving B&B has a next generation heroine already in place to take over the mantle.

No. 9: Alison Sweeney, Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives’ Sami Brady Hernandez has come a long ways since being Salem’s No. 1 teen hellion, but through it all Alison Sweeney has been a trooper. 2011 proved to be no exception. In the first half of the year, Sweeney didn’t flinch as she tried to make the Fake Rafe storyline believable. Even though the storyline felt repetitive, lasted too long and was at times boring, Sweeney never wavered.
DAYS 2.0 wiped Salem’s slate clean and with it brought the return of Sami’s mother, Marlena (Deidre Hall). With just a sentence, a gesture, or look, both actresses capitalized on their past and stepped up to the plate as years of history spilled out in their scenes. It wasn’t just in scenes with her onscreen mother or husband that helped Sweeney earn a spot on our list. The way she conveyed Sami’s often-strained relationship with son Will, (Chandler Massey) and her always present explosive chemistry with EJ (James Scott) as they went toe-to-toe provided some of the year’s most remarkable moments.

Wow. I generally agree with this list. Surprised but happy Florencia Lozano grabbed the top spot. She is a great actress and gave some of the year's best performances.
I really thought Deidre Hall should have made the list. Deidre Hall is a force of nature! Besides Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki Newman entering the Newman Ranch in her full-length chinchilla, Marlena Evans' sauntering into the Horton Town Square was one of my favorite moments of the year!
I know folks hated the doppelganger story but I thought Susan Lucci did a fine job with the story. Erica Kane gave the most diva-licious moments of the year during AMC's finale. Besides being Erica Kane, Lucci authored a book and was at the forefront of the stories surrounding AMC's cancellation and dealings with Prospect Park.
I agree with B&B's Kimberly Matula making the list and think she is woefully underrated.

Alicia Minshew <3 Love her!! Glad she made the list. I loved Kendall's stories throughout 2011! The evil Ricky stuff was awful but Alicia/Kendall made it watchable each week. I also ended up LOVING kendall and Griff. I would've loved to see their relationship blossom even more.

I agree with most of the choices, but think this was really a very weak year for Robin Strasser.
Sadly, Deidre Hall was only on for the last three months of this year, so obviously she wouldn't qualify for this list.

I also would have put Kassie de Paiva on the list, as she had to do a herculean job with nonsense material (especially about Blair's supposed feelings for Tomas), all while often being an afterthought to the writers.

I disagree big time with this list in many aspects. I love Robin & Erika but they were more supporting roles the past year and nix those two. Kassie de Paiva is no where on list, why? She rocked as much as Flo. Florencia Lozano belongs on lists but not top spot. As much as I love MTS she was gone for most of year should be at #10. AM was in the right spot and deserves to be but Susan Lucci should be on this list somewhere maybe her story DC didn't like but what she had to do SL worked it, especially when they locked her up with the crazies. Susan Lucci was front & center to the end. Where is Susan Flannery? Katherine Kelly Lang, the stupid berry story did accomplish Brooke doing soul searching and KKL torn it up. Where's Heather Tom she did some awesome work this past year? The top spot should have went to Laura Wright because she did walk away with Emmy with best performance and I'm not a viewer but when she is on screen LW ROCKS. Debbi Morgan is #2, some of best work was from late in the game on AMC. It's bias and shows here, littered up with OLTL actors, some very deserving to be here but not as many as stated.

Laura wright and Alicia Minshew just no. 2 of the most overrated Melrose Place clones on daytime. No contest when compared to SMG and SBr.
I think Kassie DePaiva, Susan Lucci,Arianne Zucker should be here. All 3 make crap look like gold time and time again.Lucci for whatever reason is never shown the appreciation her iconic sts warrants here.

Florenzia gets flashier material than most others on OLTL. The show loves her. I'm not surprised she's on the list, and Florenzia does a very good job with most of the crap with Todd/Victor and her shrieking child. I do wish Kassie had been there too.

I agree with most of the list...
I think Melody Thomas Scott deserves to be #1, but #2 ain't too shabby. As for this list being cluttered with OLTL stars, what can i say? I personally DESPISE the show and I cringe everytime I hear people (especially on this site) praising it, if the actors are turning it out, then they deserve to be here. Sure I feel that OLTL is drastically overrated at the moment, and underrated when it was actually GOOD, there's no denying that they have a few really good cast members. So I'm happy with the list. It's what I expected.

I am happy to see Sweeney get some recognition. I also think the OLTL actresses deserve the recognition, though Strasser wasn't given that much to do the past year. I probably would have replaced her with DePaiva.

I didnt know DC did one of these lists for the female performers. I am surprised and very happy that my favorite female performers Florencia Lozano, Melody Scott, and Susan Haskell made the list. Florencia deserves the top spot. She consistently does a very good job with whatever material she is given even when its Macy on Fraternity Row

I agree with this list much more than the last one. I don't think Alison Sweeney has done anything special to deserve to be on this list. I haven't been able to enjoy her in a long time. When Sami turns into a real bitch again let me know. Whining on a daily basis about absolutely nothing does not make a good actress. I don't think Robin Strasser really deserves to be on here either, based on her acting THIS year, but she is a legend and we probably won't see her anymore so I'm fine with that one.
Slezak was amazing in everything she did, this year and always. I knew that Flo was going to be #1 before I even clicked the link, but its much deserved. There is a monster gap between 1 and everyone else on this list. She blew away every other actress in soaps this year. With much respect to MTS because she's always incredible. Flo had a lot more to work with and she knocked it out of the park every second. I can't wait to see what she does after OLTL. Hopefully something soon.
The only other thing I disagree with is the Laura Wright becoming THE Carly comment. Its great she won her Emmy and everything, but she's still 3rd for me and she'll probably stay there for the rest of her run. Its not even a knock on her, but she's walking in some big shoes. She's great, but not as good as SJB or TB. I can't get over the fact that she has zero chemistry with Maurice Benard. That is really Carly's sole purpose. There is nothing there for me. His chemistry with SJB and TB was off the charts. I always wanted Sonny and Carly. Now I would be grossed out if they were an actual couple. She doesn't even have chemistry with Jason in any way other than best friends. I always wanted to see SJB and TB hook up with Jason. There's really nothing for Carly. The character has become almost useless to me. The other actresses had more to work with though by actually having Bobbie on screen and sometimes having real writers write for them. She'll never be THE Carly to me, but she's good.

Love seeing Laura Wright and Florencia Lozano on the list.
While I appreciate the shout out to Robin Strasser, she belongs on a biggest waste of talent list. Ms. Strasser and Dorian were nothing more than an afterthought in David's or VIki's stories. She was never on; there was weeks she disappeared from our screen and even a period in late spring where she was not seen for almost five weeks. Her exit was a rushed and unsatisfying reason to leave; not a story worthy of a character that helped define and make this show popular.
RS always entertains me and always makes the most of morsels (and they were usually out of character ones at that) given to her to perform. Anyone with the opportunity should catch the soapnet OLTL marathon and particularly the episodes during Malone's first run and one will see how Dorian should be written and when Strasser's talent was allowed to shine. The episode where Viki walks in on Joey in bed with Dorian is delicious and in just that episode will demonstrate how poorly the current regime used the actress and her character.

I am thoroughly disappointed that ABC ate up 7 out of the 10 spots while CBS and NBC take up the remaining 3 spots. Show's disgusting favoritism by the DC folks who put this list together. I can just imagine how the Top 10 Male performers list will be. Most likely ABC will dominate that category too. For shame.

Florencia Lozano not being nominated for a Daytime Emmy is a crime against the awards (IMO) she literally died, came back, was in some sort of explosion, got with Todd (Victor Todd) then he died (and yes I hope real Todd goes down for it) she's just one of those performers that make me sit up and go "oh snap Tea's onscreen what's she gonna do now!"

matealestlmo, I don't think the DC crew are biased towards ABC soaps, I just think it's the last year they can honor the OLTL and AMC actors. There was only one GH acor on this list, so I think things will even out next year with only three soaps left on the air, one from each network. I'm okay with their list being ABC heavy under the circumstances, but that's just my opinion!

Robin Strasser is without a doubt worthy of recognition for her contributions to Daytime television. But I agree with lilyred that OLTL totally wasted this incomparable actress during 2011 and many years before that with the current regime. A top 10 list on this site does not discount the travesty behind the actions of those who were responsible for the dreadful, destructive writing and the actress disappearing for weeks at a time. It's a shame the show is ending without her but also very telling as to the true condition of OLTL for all the constant praise and hyperboles.

Kim Matula doesn't really do much for me as an actress, personally, but I agree with the rest of the list. And Florencia Lozano should have gotten that Supporting Actress Emmy this year. It's a damn shame! She gave some of the most powerful performances of the year on OLTL!!
But thankfully, this is one DC list that Christel Khalil didn't end up on! Thank you, Jesus!!

I've very surprised but elated to see Florencia get the recognition she so deserves. 110%? I say more like 150%! She's never off, never phones it in and is always electrifying onscreen.
I agree with those who said RS and ES do not really belong on the list. I wouldn't put KDP on their either though as except for one scene with Jack she's been deadly dull this year in her performances. Florencia rises above dreary bad writing but KDP rarely can. I would put Melissa Archer from OLTL instead who can work bad material!

Yep, I definitely would've subbed DePaiva for Strasser, who had a few decent episodes but didn't have the material that DePaiva did. That said,
Florencia Lozano more than deserves the top spot on this list; she's been on fire for a good two or three years now and this year was no exception. It's a shame she's been overlooked at the Emmys the last couple of years in favor of the same ol' same ol'(queue Michelle Stafford). Also glad Susan Haskell was recognized for taking what was essentially a character-assasinating storyline and delivering pure gold day in and day out. That victory pose after tossing Natalie off the roof was THE scene of the year.

Can't really argue with the list, I mean well-deserved, I think Susan Lucci and Kassie DePaiva could've made the list, too considering the material they had.
But again, kudos to all!!!

How about Rebecca Herbst who acted her butt off w/totally crappy storylines and being fired hanging over her head, she is truly a professional and has a huge amount of class and grace. the storylines Elizabeth has been through this yr alone should have put her in the top 10.

Decent list, though Im in the camp with swapping strasser out for depaiva who has makes every scene work whether shes paired with a newbie like Jack or Eli or a vet like tk or RH.
I would also swap out Matula for Kelly Monaco. Matula is deadly dull and monaco has hit a home run with her rape story.

Oh forgot to add, I would have also worked in MCE from AMC. Egan's Annie was amazing even though it was only part of the year. Id put her in and take out SH. Haskell is sort of like JJ on GH for me, yeah they convey powerful emotions well, but they chew an awful lot of scenery in the process.

Surprised and happy to see Florencia (Tea) as the number one on the list, I was hoping she would be and she was! And I agree that Erika (Vicki) and Robin (Dorian) were on as well.
I would have put the lady who plays Dixie from AMC on there, she broke my heart when she came back and reunited with Tad. And so sad to see her upset about her son losing his mind.

I would have added the woman who plays Phyllicia Evans on OLTL because she gave the best slap of the last decade to Nora Hanen Gannon Buchanan in the courthouse! I replayed that more than Marty throwing Natalie off of the roof!
Seriously, I thought Hilary B. Smith gave powerful performances all year. Although featured for a short time recently, Ilene Kristen gave the most hilarious and poignant performances of the year. I loved everything Roxy & Fraternity Row. Ilene Kristen is a daytime great.
