Bill Maher And Elisabeth Hasselbeck Clash on The View

Fasten your seatbelts for a bumpy showdown! Bill Maher paid a visit to the ladies of The View. Co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is still smarting from a joke the Real Time host made in Feb. At the time Maher cracked Hasselbeck should be sent to Egypt, in exchange for CBS correspondent Lara Logan, who also was sexually assaulted during the Egyptian revolution. Maher made the joke before CBS released a statement, informing the world about Logan's assault.

Hasselbeck let it be known she did not find his joke funny, while Maher tried to explain he wasn't trying to personally attack her. Watch the fireworks between the two after the jump!

I LOVE Bill Maher and agree with almost everything he says. Obviously this "showdown" was prepared to boost ratings for The View...They sat Elisabeth right next to Bill to make it more "uncomfortable". Anyway...I'll always be on Team Bill....he makes sense!

Maybe the joke wasn't in good taste, but damn I wish Elisabeth would shut the hell up. How does anyone watch this show anymore??? If Barbara says "That's why it's called they VIEW" one more time I might have to upchuck. Whoopie looks like she would rather be anywhere else but sitting next to these broads. Joy is much better on her own. I do enjoy her HLN show.

I hate Elizabeth Hasslebitch, but Bill Maher needs to know his limits. What he said was totally out of line, and he knows damned well that if someone made that comment about his mother, sister, wife or daughter, he'd be pissed!! I am sick of these overpaid blowhards like Maher, Limbaugh and O'Reilly just shooting their mouths off carelessly without thinking about the repercussions of what they say.

This is one of the FEW times that you will hear me defending Hasslebitch, but this time she's right.

Bill maher is a tool. Im no big Elizabeth Hasselbeck fan, but yeah fraternities are on par with the middle east and pledge week is akin to public stoning. She shouldnt have made her comments to him so personal because it looked attacking, instead she should have found some other dumb comment he has made (because he makes a lot of them) and gone after him that way. I absolutely loathe is clear contempt for religion.

Bill Maher made that joke about Elisabeth Hasselbeck prior to the statement from CBS about the attack on Lara Logan being made public. The public was aware there was a situation that had occurred with Lara Logan in Egypt but the nature of the attack had not yet been disclosed. Im sure after the fact that Maher would not have made the same comment but at the time he was attempting to make a joke and Hasselbeck has put herself out there to be a target for the liberal audience. All in all, I agree with what Bill Maher has to say, his assessments of the Republican candidates are dead on correct and Elisabeth Hasselbeck speaks for herself and the other 1% conservative republicans that have run this country into the ground to benefit themselves.

For someone who's a panelist an an info-tainment show, Elizabeth Hasselbeck is an incredibly ignorant woman. She also thrives on taking offense as quickly and as publically as possible. I'm sure she knows damn well that Bill was not implying that she should go to Egypt and get sexually assaulted.

Like John Stewart, Bill Maher's is one of the few voices of reason left in the forum of public discourse in America. You don't have to share his views on religion to appreciate that.

Okay- so as you all know I LOATH the view- like worst show on TV loath. Here they are again, in the news for a "smackdown" and a "clash". This show just needs to own that it's a shit show and stop marketing it as this hard hitting, big-get kind of tv show. It's trash and every few months it gets free publicity for arguments. I guess daytime viewers will find a good argument anywhere they can these days since the soaps aren't doing it.

Thanks..I remember it this way as well. The comment was BEFORE people found out what happened so for EH to use that quote to pose her question was rather irresponsible because she took his comment out of context. Further, she kept saying that she was speaking for women being traded, when really, she was speaking for her damn self...and her petty comments didn't help either. She has every right to be mad that this man insulted her, but she has a show where she often interviews people that she doesn't agree with. People bashed Whoopi and Joy for walking out, and this action by EH is in the same vein. If you can't interview this person then you don't need to invite them, or you need to stay in the back for that segment.

As a fan of Bill Maher, I will say that he does make stupid comments, and any one of them could be used against him without making it personal. He says that Republicans are idiots and he is friends with Ann Coulter...he makes generalizations. That is what he does.

She stated her comments were to champion women yet she belongs to a party that believes they have a right to control what a woman's choice is following an incident of rape or incest. Her comments were self-serving and made her look like a fool. An obvious ratings stunt from a network whose daytime programming reflects the lack of talent of the man in charge of daytime programming.

This was Jerry Springer lite. Barbara Walters has lost whatever reputation she has left. And so sad for a woman who knocked down many doors for others.

I'm a defender of free speech. I say if you don't like don't watch. This has become the downfall of being Politically Correct. It has turned people into zombies who have to try think of 5 different ways whatever they can be taken. There is a lot I don't agree with when it comes to speech. But we as a society or PC police in our society have gotten so self-righteous that even Jamey here has spoke of it in relation to scudding Dru on Y&R. So they have a freedom to speak and you have a freedom to respond or not watch their programs. I don't watch Limbaugh or O'Reilly, but for every 1 million who love what they say there are 1 million who hate it as well. So we have to live and let be unless it violates the law.

Bill Maher is a comedian. This puts him in a different category than Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, those two are talk show hosts. Bill's style is out there and he is loved for it. This is why he is on HBO. People that are in the entertainment world are public figures and subject to comedy...it goes with the territory. If Elizabeth H. was not well known he would not even mention her name...she should be happy for the free publicity... maybe she will get a job on Fox news or with Rush Limbaugh...

I\m not a big fan fan of Bill Mahar, but you have to see that was an attack. Elizabeth didn't let go of it even aftertrhe topic was over. She looked clearly offend and uncomfortable beside Bill, so much for her guise that her feelings weren't hurt.
As usual, Whoppi looks like she just want the fighting to stop. Neithier she or Sherry can ask a question.
Norice how Barbara goes out out of her way to insult the protestors and even question the reasoning behind the protest themselves? I guess old money deludes absolutly.

Bill Maher is an absolute pervo & drug addict. He celebrates his vile life-style and in your face humor. He uses his HBO show to make vicious personal attacks and finally someone stood up to his bulling tactics. You may not agree with Elizabeth, but this guy is a total tool and low life. He hates women and liberally uses the "c" word to describe those that disagree with his politics.

This jerk is not a good man at all. He's the worst of Hollywood.
