General Hospital: Perkie's Observations

Maxie’s thrilled her date has arrived, until she takes off his mask and finds Spinelli instead of Matt.   She claims to appreciate the trouble he’s gone to, but she needs to be honest. She wanted to spend the evening with Matt. Spinelli ponders fate and how it’s been a part of their relationship. If he hadn’t planned the picnic for her, she would have been onboard the yacht when Lisa attacked.

Maxie wonders about Spin’s new ability to spin a basketball. He figures he’s gained new talent since he’s lost his cyber skills. Maxie points out that a lot has changed since their non wedding. She tells him he’s coming across as desperate. However, Spinelli feels he’s being determined and he should go after what he wants.

Elizabeth wakes up in ICU. Matt explains to her what happened, but assures her that Lisa got what was coming to her.  After Liz falls asleep, Matt continues to sit by her bedside, talking. When he goes to leave, her monitors go crazy. He’s forced to intubate her and tells the nurse he’ll stay until Liz is out of the woods.

Maxie gets annoyed when Matt doesn’t return her many texts. She feels this is her worst birthday.  Spinelli gives her a bracelet for a gift and goes in for a kiss, but Maxie stops it.

Lulu’s angry to find Delores in Dante’s room and reminds her that he’s recovering. Dante assures her that he asked Delores to come.  He realizes he walked in on something he wasn’t supposed to and that he deserves to know what.  Delores points out it’s his father’s warehouse and to ask him.

Lulu’s not happy Dante’s pushing himself by going back to work.  She feels he’s not respecting what his body went through. Dante points out that time is not on their side, to solve the case. He feels Michael knows something and is covering for Sonny.  Lulu says he’s trying to protect Michael, bust Sonny, investigate and bring to justice whoever shot him.  She says he’s going to do more damage than he realizes.

Dante claims cops hardly ever get shot. He says they spend most of their time doing paperwork and Luke’s actually been through worse than he has.  He just wants to love Lulu and he wants to announce the engagement at dinner.

Diane stops by Sonny’s, back from her European book tour.  She explains she ran into Brenda in Italy.  Sonny’s not interested, but Diane lets him know how well Brenda and Alec are doing. Brenda asked about him, but Diane feels she made the right decision in leaving Sonny.

Sonny doesn’t understand why she’s talking about Brenda. He accuses her of working with Jax.  She reminds him that he killed Jax, but he says no body was found.  She says everywhere she went, people were telling her how out of control Sonny was being. He needs to accept Brenda is gone and to stop using her as an excuse to do wrong.

Kate arrives and eavesdrops, as Diane continues to remind Sonny that she warned him against marrying Brenda. She tells him to be grateful they’re gone, since he’s happy Alec is gone.  They notice Kate in the doorway, who says she returned to get her purse. She and Diane hug.  Kate asks when to expect the next book. However, Diane says she’s branching out, starting a gossip column.  Sonny wonders why she would waste time with that. Diane says it a more respectable job than her current one and hands him her letter of resignation.

After she leaves, Sonny angrily turns to alcohol. Kate stops him, saying it won’t make it hurt less.  Sonny says he doesn’t care, since Diane was just an employee. Kate points out it’s another woman who walked out.  Sonny goes in for a kiss, but Kate stops him. She doesn’t want to be a stand in for Brenda.  She kisses him on the cheek before heading out.

Johnny gets back to the garage to find Anthony suffering from his wound. He decides his father needs to be looked at.  Johnny says he knows a doctor that has something big to hide.

Lucky and the inn keeper talk about his quest and he’s as determined to go through with it as she is to prevent him. After some back and forth, he heads out to the chapel.

Olivia tells Steven that Sonny invited Lante to Kristina’s dinner. She doesn’t want Dante to go, because he needs to recuperate.  Steve points out Kristina would want her brother there, despite the fact Sonny likes to manipulate everyone. Talk turns to Lisa. Olivia wonders if she’ll be found.  They talk about his ability with a guitar. Then she leaves to get ready for Sonny’s dinner.

Johnny shows up and tells Steven that he has a patient who needs medical attention.  Steve says he doesn’t work for the mob. Johnny claims to have a story that will change his mind, so Steven goes with him to the garage.  Steven helps out Anthony. Then he tells them never to talk about this again.  Anthony wonders what Johnny has on Steve.

jesus christ Spinelli, have some self-respect and dignity and go sniff around another girl. SHE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU!

and how come nuKate is suddenly the only woman that can "calm the beast" within Sonny??

i'm over LaNte already. pair him up with someone else.

Wash, rinse, repeat. My goodness, it is the same thing with Spinelli. I know many wish for Kristen Storms to return but she could not make the writing for Maxie work. I feel like Spixie is on every day.

And what was up with Diane today? I thought she was unnecessarily cruel and malicious toward Sonny. That whole scene and her discussing Brenda and Alec before finally quitting. That all seemed to come out of left field. Who else feels like it will be months before we see Diane again? These writers have to hit us over the head with the idea that Sonny is utterly alone and the only person to save him is Kate. Ugh. GH is just awful.

Sonny was even more dickish than usual to Diane. But I FLOVED how she stuck up for herself AND threw Brenda up in his face. I don't know if CH is off the show; I hope not. But if she is, at least she went out with style and backbone.

The way that NuMaxie delivered her lines to Spinelli about being desperate sounded really mean. Kirsten Storms could deliver that same line, but with a subtext that made her sympathetic to him. I sincerely hope that KS gets back on her feet soon because without her the character of Maxie is useless. If Storms can't come back, then ditch the character altogether.

The s/l about Steve being connected to the drug operation is finally here. Handled correctly, it could be very interesting. I've got my fingers crossed.

Johnny was his usual hot self today. I liked how he ignored Papa Z's questions about Steve.

Lucky's Irish mystery is mildly intriguing, but the s/l is moving slower than a three legged mule. Pick up the pace, already.

Kelly Sullivan is racking up quite the scene count. I wonder if she'll rank in the Airhog Awards next year. It's a shame to see characters like Carly and especially Alexis, get so little airtime by comparison.

The Maxie character hit her peak like 3-5 years ago. It's time to retire her and bring in some new faces, like Serena Baldwin.

I actually enjoyed the Sonny and Diane scenes yesterday. I love Diane period...she is a great character...As far as mean things being said... Nothing was said that was not the truth....and sometimes the truth hurts. A couple of the comments had me laughing out loud...especially about the sleeves...yapping your mouth...shoe buying...classic Sonny and Diane.

How is it that a show with the history and fan base of General Hospital can go so off course and become so bad that it becomes as exciting as watching QVC? Are the people in charge really that delusional, stupid, untalented that they cant seem to get what the fans of the show really want to watch? If I continued to put out a product that my clients were not interested in buying, Id be on the street and broke. At what point does the light bulb go on and they make changes in an effort to bring the audience back? Or has this been the approach all along? Have the show be as bad as possible, destroy the fan base, and then get rid of GH with little or no fan reation. Honestly I dont think it is possible for an Executive Producer and a Head Writer to be this clueless.

I get the feeling she's gone for good. She broke up with Max and now has quit. She has no family on screen and this show has no use for lawyers (see Claire, see Alexis, see Dara, see Ric). Plus, they've been very, VERY heavy handed about what Alexis will owe Sonny to get Kristina into Yale. I'm thinking Alexis is about to get more screentime....as Sonny's attorney.

tealita wrote:

I hate Sonny with the heat of a thousand suns, and I usually love Diane's smackdowns, but even I think she was being a bigger biatch than usual. A lot of what she said about Brenda was unecessary. Although I was waiting for her to say that Brenda was pregnant so that Sonny's head could explode.

tealita wrote:

Ooooohh, it never occured to me that that was what Johnny had on Steve. I totally thought it would be someting lame, like Johnny saw Steve kill Lisa and throw her overboard.

I love Diane and I think MORE people should talk to Sonny like a 3 year old. He's such an ass, I love to see anybody put him in his place.

I thought Diane crossed the line from cheeky and amusing to being just plain obnoxious and unnecessarily bitchy. Carolyn Hennesy deserved better writing than that if it was her character's swan song.

Also, is completely unbelievable and asinine that a successful attorney would throw away their practice to become a gossip columnist. Jeez, at least say she wanted to continue writing novels.

I'm tired of the whole Maxie/Spinelli dance of futility. The stuff he's been doing is bordering on obsessiveness and stalker-ish. It's not cute anymore. It's been beaten into the ground.

I'm with Tom Z. -- it's almost like the people writing and producing this show are making it intentionally awful to drive away the fanbase so ABC Daytime can claim they had to replace it with the Couric talker because the ratings were bad.

Diane was NOT mean, obnoxious or "unnecessarily bitchy" to the scumbag AKA Sonny. She was right in everything she said and he DESERVED to be cut down because he is a PIG. I also LOVE the way Lulu looks down on him and puts him in his place, which is under the heel of her shoe!LOL!

Diane & Lulu both ROCK & Sonny sucks!

Perkie--You may be right. Johnny MAY have seen Steve do Lisa in. Re: the drug connection: out of consideration for your readers who are spoiler-free, I make a deliberate point of not mentioning them in your column. I read that tidbit some time ago. Who knows? Like so many other drops, it could have been a false one. And, things change all the time. Either way, Johnny having the goods on Steve interests me--especially since Olivia is having fainting spells.

Please accept my apology if I was out of line about that spoiler.

Like FFIT and Mipeony, I'm Team Diane about this one. Sonny more than had it coming. He treated Brenda like dirt in their final days together, not to mention that his paranoia about Jax being alive shows what an egotistical prick he really is.

Score another one for Diane. Ther is no such thing as being unneccisarily bitchy to Sonny.

I too feel like Carolyn Hennessy was written off the canvas since she resigned, and with her performance yesterday it made it painfully clear how much she will be missed. Diane was the only female character who wasn't lickig Sonny's cahones. I loved her and Alexis friendship because she called Alexis on her crap too, but she did it out of love. I hope she does a guest shot from time to time. Now THAT would be money well spent instead of the glorified bull crap that is Franco.

Wedneday afternoon...Fall well under way...Fall in PC is creeping along...

what is it with lurking in the hallways at GH and in doorways? You would think the writer's would come up with a better way to put characters and stories into motion rather than using this "device" so often. The "clown doctor" at Liz's room, at the hub with Steve and Olivia, Kate at the bully's. (Although I admit I didn't mind Kate listening in to Diane-that was just delicious.)...

Seeing Matt with Liz and hearing his "Ode to Maxie" "infuriating, glorious..." reminded me of classic "man pulled between two competing interests". His willingness to forego meeting Maxie for her birthday to stay with Liz after the first emergency? "I don't know what I would've done if I hadn't had you to confide in..." And then those monitors go off again. I think we've got a quad- drangle that's going to be further complicated with the arrival of our "mystery life saver"...

Hidden talents for basketball twirling aside, I'm missing the computer skills.
"... I'm gonna be brutally honest..." "Do you ever ponder fate?" "I don't ponder much." (Now that's brutally honest coming from Maxie.) As is "...you look desperate." But Spinelli isn't dissuaded: "Determined...following your advice..." Oh, that's honest. And, yes she avoided that kiss, barely...

OK, I'm totally annoyed. Not only is Olivia yapping about a private matter she was sworn to secrecy about, she now doesn't want D at Kristina's farewell dinner.
After this latest run in with a bullet, she's finally figured out her son's father is a bit harmful to be around? Duh! Stare Steve does have a point: "It's one dinner." As for his advice "Not a good idea to let your guard down..."? Well, it looks like he did just that somewhere along the line... Puzzled

John's musing about Papa Z having lockjaw "...not that the silence would'nt be golden." was one of my laugh lines for the day. Putting SR's Steve into an unlikely "trio" makes for an interesting dynamic. My objection to this is that it sets up another criminal based story that ends up cementing the mob element into the canvas. Sigh. I do appreciate SR looking like an animal trapped in a snare.
It gives him a chance to do something different...

Well, at least he got to the chapel yard. Our wandering Spencer should listen to our wise Irish innkeeper. "Maybe you should stick to those near and dear in the present, not the past...you might get more consequences than you bargained for."
But of course, he's stubborn...

"She made the right decision leaving you..." Even without her presence on screen Brenda still haunts this area of the GH tapestry. I absolutely loved CH's Diane firing both barrels at the bully and taking no prisoners. And while he makes it all about him again (thinking that Jax is behind her lecture), she blindsides him with her resignation: "...I have found a whole new way to express myself...so has
Brenda...When will you?" Brava, Diane. Big smile ...

I suppose I can be glad Kate didn't completely roll over: "...it happens. People leave." "...sometimes they come back." (Wait-didn't GW say that?) How soon will it be before she pumps him up again? Stare ...

"Excuse me. Were you absent when the academy had sensitivity training?...you couldn't wait to hammer him with questions...?" She's fierce." Yes she is. I love when L goes into protection mode whether it's Padilla, Ronnie, the bully. And she's right when she pins D down about being "...back at work...you act like solving the case is gonna fix everything ... but there is more damage than I think you realize." She's putting her own fears into that "damage mix". He's quite aware of parts of her worries: "I know you've been through a traumatic experience..." ...it feels like an annual event." She's on the verge of releasing everything to him starting with "...my mom did everyting she could to keep a normal life...that's what finally broke something inside of her." He's very sympathetic and pairs it with reality: "No life is completely safe..." His other reality? "The only thing that has ever made me feel better is loving you." And she echoes him: "I love you too, so much." "I can't wait to marry you and I can't wait to tell everybody..." Her warm smile tightens up again. He's hearing but
it's not registering. And no, he shouldn't announce their engagement. There's too much to work through...together...Sigh...

Till our next conversation...stay safe, all...
Swan! Innocent

What is the point of changing HW when the EP and ABC President stay the same? If Frons is still dictating which actors get story and air time then it doesn't matter who writes the show.

@liason4real - I hope this rumor is true. I am hoping for a strong headwriter to come and make GH watchable, heck, even enjoyable as the show marches toward the end of it's televised run ala All My Children with Agnes Nixon/Lorraine Broderick.

I hope the show's not done Sad. As sucky as I find it sometimes (maybe most of the time lately), I still watch it when I get home from work.

First the cons (in my opinion):

Jasam is boring the heck outta me. Same stuff different day for them. Same old conversations, same old danger, same everything. Same goes for Sonny and Michael. Something totally new for these ppl please! They have become unwatchable.

Ethan is the most interesting Spencer right now even though I'm not liking his hateful attitude lately. Luke is pitiful, Lulu is annoying as usual, and Lucky is even more clueless than normal. The Spencers are so dang depressing right now.

Spixie is getting annoying. Either put them together or don't. Spinelli trying to woo Maxie and her wanting Matt for her shallow reasons is getting really old. I still don't understand why they make Matt seem like the bad one ignoring Maxie. When really it was Maxie not giving a crap about Matt or what's important to him and only caring about her own career and her own needs. Spinelli and Matt both deserve someone better who actually appreciates them.

Now the pros (in my opinion):

Loving Matt and Liz and intrigued about the mystery guy that saved her. I never thought I'd be happy Liz is getting someone new other than Lucky. My days of longing for LL2 to finally reunite and be in a healthy relationship are over. Yay to Miz or Liz/new guy! Also intrigued about what's going on with Ethan and Wyndemere. I could always use more Cassadines stirring up trouble. Hope the new guy that save Liz is a Cassadine and the story involves Alexis. Bring Nikolas back too please!

Also loving Johnny and Papa Z. Anthony may be crazy, but he does crazy so well and acutally makes me laugh. GH is so dark lately that I enjoy any humor that comes my way. Maybe it's the way they are written or the fact that they aren't self-centered, egotistical, or stone-faced a-holes that I enjoy them being mobsters way better than I enjoy Sonny or Jason. And now that Steve's secret is coming out. Interested in what that's about.

IMO, GH does have stories that some ppl find interesting and that they can build on without the show getting cancelled. They just need better writers that care about the show's history. Add in a story or two for the Q's and bring back some old characters, good ones and evil ones. Just don't bring them back and re-write history like they did with Holly and Luke resulting in Ethan. Maybe a little Faison to stir up trouble and Anna and Robert coming back to help. What about Sean and Tiffany, weren't they pregnant when they went of the canvas? Serena Baldwin is out there along with so many they can bring back instead of having new characters with no ties to PC history.

Sorry for the long post. But I'll be so sad if GH gets cancelled Sad.

purple - I would be sad if the show was cancelled too. The thing is that the GH that I watched today isn't the same GH I used to watch. These writers could care less if they told entertaining stories. They write unwatchable characters and they destroy once great characters. I hate what they have done to the Spencers and the Qs. The GH I loved was cancelled several years ago and has been replaced by a pod show. It makes me so sad.
