Wishful Casting: Dynasty — The Next Generation

I'd cast recurring Ringer hunk Justin Bruening as L.B., who now goes simply by Blake. The gorgeous actor already has experience playing someone related to John James (Little Blake's dad Jeff Colby), as James played Jeff Martin, the uncle of Bruening's character Jamie on All My Children

Unlike his cousin Danny, Blake Colby has thought of nothing else besides one day seizing control of Denver Carrington to merge it with his father's family firm Colby Co, thanks in large part to lifelong manipulation on the part of his malevolent grandmother Alexis.

Things get off to a deliciously vile start when Alexis orders Blake to seduce Ayana and get it on video . Alexis hopes to blackmail the young woman into convincing Danny to sell his shares of Denver Carrington to Alexis — and Alexis alone. If Ayana doesn't comply, Alexis will upload the tape onto the web. Not to be outdone, Sammy Jo realizes Blake is working with Alexis—and keeping her out of the loop—and decides to seduce the truth out of Fallon's son. Get ready for someone to get their head dunked in a pool while wearing Bob Mackie!

If it's one person who could have warned Blake about trusting Alexis, it's his uncle Adam (Gordon Thompson), blacksheep of the Carringtons, who also returns for Blake's funeral with his own nefarious plot in mind. He's dummied up documentation stating that Blake and Alexis' divorce wasn't legal and wants his mother to throw in with him in contesting the will!

Jamey, why hasn't anyone hire you as an exec, I love this idea.

I watched Dynasty, and all those primetime soaps. I have always said Dynasty needs to have a reboot, and now's the time. Other shows are relaunching, so let's make it happen!!!

Make it happen, Jamey! I would add it to my DVR, ASAP.

One request...can we bring back Sable Colby, too? Stephanie Beacham rocked that role and the Alexis/Sable rivalry was great. Plus, I'm sure Sable has some crazy, entitled grandkids to bring into the mix.

I have thought about this too, but I would call the shoe LEGACY, to give the show its own identity.

Start off with the death of Blake Carringtong and everyone returns for the funeral and will reading and let the battles begin!

Danny Carrington-Matthew Lawrence (good actor and played him as a child)
Lauraen Colby-Amanda Setton (has a striking resemblance to Joan Collins)
L.B. Colby-Tom Pelphrey
Krystina Carrington-Katie Cassidy

Maybe Evan Ross or Raven Symone can play the grandchildren of Dominique!

Ok, I would FLOVE a Dynasty reboot with a new generation.

Here's who I'd want:

The show would need to start off with the a big event like the original Dynasty did. Instead of a wedding, we'd have Blake's funeral. I'd want to see all the old Dynasty crowd there (even perhaps Amanda, Dominique, Sable) even if they don't continue on with the show as regulars past the pilot. While I'd love to have Alexis and Krystal in the mix, I'm not sure either Joan or Linda would want to be contract players, but I'd like to see them play major roles in at least the first season.

Somewhere during the initial season, I'd like for L.B. to be the arrogant Carrington, the one who has worked his way up the ladder at Denver Carrington and can be a little reckless. His relationship with his cousin Daniel is often strained as he sees him as a lesser. L.B. is also a womanizer and we find that he has fallen for a new older woman more recently (perhaps played by Jamie Luner). Sometime towards the end of the first season, we find out that someone has been responsible for some illegal dealings that has cost the company (Denver Carrington) millions of dollars. We find out the initials of the person responsible is L.B. Everyone assumes that it is L.B., until the audience finds out that his woman partner, who has been hiding her own true identity is really Lyndsay Blaisdale, Claudia and Matthew's assumed dead daughter. Lyndsay has been planning revenge on the Carringtons and Colbys for years and has held them responsible for both her mother's and father's deaths. She has been carefully studying up on the Carringtons and Colbys for years and plans to ruin both families from the inside out (I'd also like to see her struggle with her own personal concerns with mental instability as her mother Claudia had mental issues). At the end of the season as Alexis and Krystal (both who have come to terms with Blake's death) finally make amends and plan to spend a weekend at an out of town spa, a plane carrying both of them crashes. While they survive the initial crash and are eventually able to leave the plane, they find the heavily forested area surrounding them is on fire (reminiscent of the cabin fire). Will they survive this and show up again at some point later? Since Lyndsay has wanted revenge on both the Carringtons and Colbys, is she responsible for the plane crash? We also wonder if she even responsible for Blake's death. At this point, only the viewers seem to know who Lyndsay is. In the last scene, we see a woman looking at what seems to be Alexis's will in her hands and the sole beneficiary's name reads Pamela. Who exactly is Pamela, and why would she be an heir to Alexis' fortune? When the screen pans to her face, the woman is portrayed by Jane Badler.

I'd also like to see Krystina played by Hayden Panettiere (Heroes). I want her to be someone with a sweet disposition like Krystal, but also with flair like cousin Sammy Jo. I'd like Lauren Colby to be played by Rachel Bilson (the OC), and have issues with her mother like Fallon had with Alexis. Krystina finds it sometimes difficult to balance her relationship with her sister Fallon and at the same time, her niece Lauren as she and Lauren are close in age.

I would like Danny to address the issues that he has with his father being gay (not bisexual this time around) and concerns about the impressions others may have about him possibly being bisexual (with Sammy Jo as a domineering mother and Steven as a gay father). I would like to see Alexis show her love for L.B. because his drive for success reminds her of a younger Blake while also giving special attention to Daniel because he reminds her of the time she missed watching Steven grow up (she may believe Daniel is actually gay), but it also drives Sammy Jo crazy. L.B. and Daniel will be at complete opposite ends (think Adam/Steven).

I'd also like to see the Sable/Dex child show up and perhaps play the field with both Krystina and Lauren.

This is what I have so far, but it is a work in progress.

Jamey, make it happen! Pitch the idea to a network. You finally have to get your own soap on television.

This isn't just a "Wishful Casting" ... this is much more! Laughing out loud It's creative, it's passionate and it sounds genius.

I agree with soapjunkie -- this isn't just a few ideas, this is a bible for a whole new soap, Jamey. I love it -- Dynasty was "my" show when I was a little kid. Is there anyway you could pitch it?! I want to watch it. NOW.

One comment I would make is not to have the younger characters overwelm the screen -- characters like Alexis, Dominique Devereux, Sable, heck, even Krystal, were and still are HUGELY popular in their own right. There is a hunger out there for strong over-50 women taking the lead in the boardroom and the bedroom, especially with both Daytime and Primetime having phased them out. The only reason I say this is because the 90210 reboot really missed a trick by sidelining a lot of the original castmembers as leading characters -- Brenda, Kelly, etc.

Also, Adam and Kirby -- unfinished business there. I loved Gordon Thomson as Adam!

I for one am salivating at the prospect of Joan Collins, Diahann Carroll, Stephanie Beacham, Heather Locklear and Pamela Sue Anderson facing off in the same room somewhere. Fallon didn't inherit her mom's character traits for nothing. Smile

I love everything about this! I much preferred Dynasty to Dallas. I like all the younger players, but I agree that the older set needs to be pretty prominent too. Adam was my favorite. He started the trend of long lost/forgotten sons named Adam coming back to their rich families and being awesome and devious that Adam Newman has continued on Y&R.

This needs to happen!

Remember how Adam had a child with a surrogate in Season 8? The surrogate chose to keep the baby boy and Dana left Adam shortly thereafter. Why not bring that child back in the same way that Adam came on "Dynasty" in the third season? He is bitter about not growing up with the other Carrington grandchildren and is determined to get his piece of the pie. It would also be interesting if this son was trying to deal with the fact that he is gay (something his Uncle Steven understands all to well).

Such great ideas. I would only suggest that Adam and Amanda should have some (younger, maybe teenaged) kids added to the mix. I also love the idea that Erica_S brought up about Adam's surrogate's child coming to claim his birthright!

If this is a for real thing, then they need to drop this project right here and now. NO re-make will ever measure up to the original Dynasty!
