Debbi Morgan Dishes What to Expect on The Young and The Restless
All My Children veteran Debbi Morgan is free at last— to talk about her role on The Young and the Restless that is! Morgan gives the skinny to TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan on what Harmony aka Yolanda will be up to in Genoa City.
TV Guide Magazine: What brings her back to Genoa City?
Morgan: She has no idea what's been happening with Devon — that his father, Tucker [Stephen Nichols], is the son of Katherine Chancellor [Jeanne Cooper]. In fact, that's still a big secret in Genoa City until Phyllis [Michelle Stafford] puts the story on the Internet. Harmony sees the news on a customer's laptop while working at the diner and makes a beeline to Genoa City to reconnect with Devon. Needless to say, she doesn't get a warm reception. Devon's furious that she abandoned him and doesn't want anything to do with her.
Morgan also answers the burning question, will she and former AMC love interest Peter Bergman rekindle their Pine Valley passion in Genoa City ?
TV Guide Magazine: What about Harmony and Jack Abbott? When you and Peter Bergman tried a romance back on AMC there were so many complaints from the audience that Bergman wound up getting fired.
Morgan: Who knows? [Laughs] Maybe Harmony will turn out to be the black Erica Kane! People have already been connecting the dots and are assuming that Harmony will wind up with Neil [Kristoff St. John]. It'd be really great if we went somewhere unexpected. That was such a thing with Peter back in the day! AMC was getting all that hate mail and we knew they'd have to break up Cliff and Angie and that one of us would be out of a job. I just assumed it would be me, but it was Peter! He had just bought an apartment in New York. His wife was pregnant. I was so shocked they did that to him. But then one day Peter calls me from Los Angeles and says he's going to an audition to be Terry Lester's replacement on Y&R and I said, "Peter, do not walk to that audition. F--king run! It will be the role of a lifetime!" [Laughs] He tells that story to this day!

New poster in the house. Ok, now I Looovveeeee me some Ms. Debbi, no doubt about it, and have followed her career for years, but honey, I have to say, I don't know about this one. I'm happy that she's happy, but the decision between playing opposite Denzel (which would've been round #2 for her since she's played opposite of Denzel before in "The Hurricane", and was awesome of course!) vs. the Bullsh*t that is Y&R these days should be a no-brainer! I understand the ink was dry when she was notified, and obviously the timing couldn't be worse, but c'mon homey!! I've been anxiously awaiting for Debbi to hit up the big screen again, because she is just toooo freakin' TALENTED!!!!!

Its like when I watch the Titanic even though I know Jack is going to die I still expect it to be different (hallmark of excellent storytelling for me) then I see him frozen on the ice and somehow I'm still surprised...with MariaArena I don't have that same feeling when it comes to her hiring these actors and writing them in her stories. She makes a mockery out of them I'm afraid Debbi will be another in a long list. I hope I'm wrong but I somehow I doubt it.

~applauds~ You hit the nail on the head! I do like Debbi Morgan, but I have to shake my head on this one because it's same stuff different day. Just like the storylines are recycled, unfinished state and all, the move to bring new characters will bomb. Move over GF, MAB has a new "it" girl.
When Tristan Rogers came on I thought Y&R had hit paydirt. Seeing Colin and Jill proved that fact. But like a 5 yr old with ADD who's been fed a ton of sugar, MAB just can't keep it together. Debbi will fare no better as Y&R continues to spiral downward. Only ffwding through some of it when Jill and Colin are on. After Tristan leaves, no point anymore. AND, I'm not buying Sony anymore either.

I must clarify here: Maria did not create this character. This was a couple of years before she came on as EP/HW. This was during LML's regime, not MAB's. So, in reality, MAB is NOT rewriting her own history here. Although, she is rewriting someone else's history. The character of Yolanda was on Y&R between 2005 and 2006. Maria did not come on until 2008.

I Think Maria's tent poling story telling in the last week or so has been good.The Problem is as writer, I never get the sense she knows or cares where she is going. Also her fast pace ( possibly dictated by Sony) is the antithesis of Bill Bell's vision; who moved his stories at a dramatic slow motion pace. As a E.P Maria stunt casting has gone from
obscure to soap star grandstanding and she has a dope cast all ready. All of that said it may not be doomsday for D. Morgan. She could bring her superior knowledge of the genre and maybe accomplish what her girl Vicky could not; but for sure open the door for. As far as the Harmony, "Hippy" name change ; that may give us an insight into Maria's ADD writing style.
