BREAKING NEWS: Susan Lucci Nixes Prospect Park's All My Children Offer!
By Jillian Bowe on September 06, 2011

Deadline is reporting Susan Lucci has turned down Prospect Park's offer to stay on with All My Children. According to the site, Prospect Park went to La Lucci with an offer to pay the same salary she makes at ABC. The soap diva reportedly rejected their offer after asking for more money, to work less hours and to get a guarantee for a primetime series. Deadline claims Prospect Park is going back to the drawing board and will focus on ratings darling One Life To Live and shelve AMC until it can regroup.

Speaking of a different Erika, I'd kind of like to know if Erika Slezak is going to be with ONE LIFE TO LIVE when it goes to the net.

I would not turn down a paycheck if I were SL. She is not that great of an actress. As for Erika from OLTL it was just reported that she has indeed signed on for the Prospect Park project. If she can do it so should SL. ES is a far better actress.

She's asking for way to much! She wants MORE money and LESS hours? So do I Susan, but it ain't gonna happen! Why does she think that she could get more money when the show is trying to SAVE money and go online? And she wants a guarantee to be on a primetime program? No one can guarentee something like that. I think she's being really selfish here and it sounds like her not signing is putting a hold on AMC, which puts other people out of work.

Interesting, does that mean AMC might not debut in Jan. 2012? Will they need to push it back, that to me would be risky because no Erica could be cause of concern. I don't understand SL, if she is playing hardball it might of back fired. Sad.

WOW is right! Without Erica or Angie, AMC doesn't have much to stay afloat...I wonder if Prospect Park will simply abandon the AMC project and focus on OLTL...which this article insinuates...

I think that's what's going to happen, Stefanstavros. I kind of figured something like this was going to happen. I feel that Prospect Park picked up both to appease the people who are AMC fans, but the writing is on the wall. I just don't see a start-up like Prospect Park paying the "big stars" of both shows like Lucci and staying afloat for, say, ten years. If she doesn't change her mind, who knows what's going to happen. They may not even pick up AMC. You already have Jacob Young and Debbi Morgan not returning to their roles. It makes me wonder if others, such as Darnell Williams, will follow suit.

As far as I am concerned people Susan Lucci can do whatever she wants. Who is to blame that Lucci is the only face and the only one PP feels can make the show marketable. Is that somehow Luccis fault that in Brian Frons desire to turn AMC into Sex and the City that he gutted this show over the years to the point where the core familes, the martins, the courtlandts, the chandlers have been decimated to the point where the show cant go on withouth Erica Kane.
This woman by the way who everyone is now judging has taken several paycuts while people like Bernard Burton, Geary, Budig mathison have all said no until recent times. I say if PP wants AMC to succeed and feel they need Lucci pay her. She is a one woman marketig machine and this show has gotten and gets tons of free marketing from her book signings and appearences she makes that they don't pay one dime for.
But heck continue on with the PP ploy to now get the soap fans on her back just like Sony has done with Braeden in the past making people think he was unreasonable or MTS In recent times. Go after Lucci versus putting the pressure on PP if you want AMC to go on insist they give her what she wants.

I don't remember the last time when Deadline has been flatout wrong.
There was always just too big of a window between the end of AMC on ABC and the projected start date of it online and too many actors had expressed skepticism. If AMC never sees the light of day again after that reported asinine 80s style soap cliffhanger, I hope some talented fanfiction writers out there come up with their own endings.
ETA: I also wonder if Prospect Park is having second thoughts about AMC anyway. It's easier to use Susan Lucci and say, "well, she turned down her offer, we have to delay the start of AMC" than coming out and saying we're not that confident in AMC as a product.

Hmmmm......I am not sure if I buy this. Susan Lucci has taken NUMEROUS paycuts over the past few years in order to help save AMC, so it really makes no sense to me that she would play the diva card now and try to bleed everyone dry. Susan Lucci doesn't even really NEED to work, so I don't buy for one second that she's playing hardball. "Deadline" is just looking for some press, and they are undoubtedly fudging the facts to achieve it.

I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO PREDICT THAT SHE WOULD'NT STAY!
she's way too famous and on fire right now! and she's getting TONS of movie/tv offers.

Lucci is the face of AMC for many fans and for those that don't watch the show (like me). If she's not going to jump on board (seems a little ridiculous to demand a guarantee to be part of a primetime series), then I think PP is better off to focus on OLTL. At least PP knows they they have willing stars to come on board. AMC could be shelved and "retooled" with different legacy characters -- as Jamey has suggested before -- for later in the future so fans are not "disappointed" and ratings bleed away because viewers don't see their current favorite stars or characters on the show.

Was it really necissary to add that stupid line to this story? OLTL is not a ratings darling, its ratings are in the crapper just like everyother soap and if it was doing as well as you all pretend it is, it wouldn't be getting cancled.
But anyway about Susan Lucci, she has every right to ask for more money or a primetime garuntee. If I were in her shoes I'd do it and so would anyone else.

the cast knows that this show is being written by hacks and they do not want to continue with the hacks LB and JHC in charge.
PP seems more invested in oltl cause its the stronger show. AMC has been crap for years just let it die.

I think she probably wants a Tony Geary style contract, so she can stay in New York mostly, and commute to L.A. for work. Plus, she took so many pay cuts already, the show needs to make it worth her while so she won't get burned again. I support whatever decision she makes, and while I love her, I am still going to watch the new All My Children. I don't care if it's just Cara and Maya, I am watching it.

OLTL was and will always be superior to AMC in acting/storylines.

get Robin Strasser to take over her spot. not as Erica Kane, but they should create a story where Dorian Lord quits being a senator and moves to Pine Valley and gets involved in a sorts of shennanigans.

The economy is in the tank, the business is changing, dearie, shows are being canceled left and right and Ms Lucci wants more money. She throws a fit when she doesn't get it, thereby putting about 50 people out of work. What a sweetheart.
Here's the thing with soap opera actors. The writers write to their talents and personalities. The longer an actor is on a show, the more the character resembles the actor and vice versa.

Something about this story just doesn't ring true. It was surprising when the news first leaked that PP matched Susan's salary at ABC, especially since they're entering untested waters. I'm sure Susan is negotiating for her ideal scenario (and she damn well should!), but I have a feeling there are either missing or misstated parts to the story. I'd love to hear her side.
While it's tough to imagine AMC without Erica, I'd still watch as long as a fair number of vets and fan favorites sign on.

Susan Lucci hasn't made an official statement. This is rumor until either Lucci or Prospect Park makes a statement.
That said, Lucci has been working on AMC for 40+ years. She's 64 and hot. If an 80+ Betty White can get her own series and is still relevant, why can't Lucci?
As for needing a pay check, Lucci is one of the few soap stars who made millions when the cash was flowing. But, she may want to make more than a $1 mil a year. Primetime actors on successful shows make several million a year. Ashton Kutcher will make $750K per episode. Cast members on cable's White Collar make $150/episode. Lucci wants her cut of the pie.
Frankly, PP, as an Internet start up, should have offered Lucci a heap of stock options if not a share of the company. Start ups tech companies give shares to engineers and secretaries, why not to an actress like Lucci.
That said, if Lucci doesn't go to AMC online, wouldn't that leave more money to spend on other actors? Why not lure David Canary out of retirement or strike a deal with other AMC stars?
22 January 2011
3 min 21 sec
Why exactly should it be a burden on Susan Lucci's conscience that her castmates will be out of work if she doesn't take the deal? She wasn't the one that cancelled the show to begin with. And if PP decides to go ahead without her, then no harm no foul.
Why are we always so quick to assign blame to people without even knowing the full story?

PP is not an internet startup
Its a production company that is starting ainternet TV station Venture and thats what the Govt money is for, The Building of that site.
Im going to agree that these are rumors until confirmed by PP and Lucci

You know...years ago in the early 80's when Susan Lucci went on maternity leave All My Children did just fine. Granted you had characters like Cliff and Nina, Palmer and Daisy, Joe and Ruth Martin, Phoebe Tyler Wallingford to keep it interesting in Erica's abscence. I honestly believe with Agnes Nixon and Lorraine Broderick at the helm they could still write an interesting program. All My Chidlren isn't all about Erica...like Guiding Light was all about Reva. It really is an ensemble.

This article reeks of bs. Anybody whose ever met Susan knows that the only diva in her life is Erica Kane. As some here pointed out already, Susan doesn't need to work for a living. Her children are grown and she and her husband's properties are fully owned. How can PP a start-up internet-based entertainment company guarantee her a primetime deal on network television? Susan has always demonstrated that primetime success was never anything that she's longed for. She's been there and done that. She needs no guarantees.

There are plenty of other Pine Valley residents that I would stil tune into and watch. I am disappointed Susan will not be continuing in the role that made her famous, but everyone makes choices, so I wish her well. I love that we are finally hearing who will be going with the soaps!

Soap_Stud...you're totally right and there are legacy characters they can bring back or keep around like Adam Chandler, Brooke English, Greg Nelson, Nina Cortlandt, etc. Again, All My Children has always been an ensemble. I would love to see them to continue using the show's history and merge it with the present.

While I will agree that Susan Lucci is the face of AMC, I for one, will be more than willing to tune into AMC if she isn't there! Sorry! I've always thought that she was overrated, now if we can just get Cameron Mathison and Rebecca Budig to ride off into the sunset permanently, I'd be a happy camper. I do agree that AMC will have a harder time making it should the fan favorites not follow; and yes, I realize that SL is one of the favs!
While Susan Lucci is not my favorite soap star, everyone knows and associates her with AMC whether or not they watch the show. That being said, she should have her cake and eat it too should she decide to stay; I don't blame her one bit for this, if true.
