Just Call Her 'Katie': Talk Show That Will Likely Cost Fans Final ABC Daytime Soap Gets a Name

Media and entertainment sites are all abuzz following Monday's reveal by TV Newser of the first art work promoting Katie Couric's upcoming, syndicated talk show. The chatfest, which will be simply called Katie, will air largely on ABC stations and resulted in the network having to cede an hour back to affiliates, meaning come fall of 2012 there won't be enough room at the ABC Daytime inn for The Chew, The Revolution, Katie and General Hospital. Here's what executive producer Jeff Zucker had to say about the vehicle:

“I think Katie is a unique brand in television,” Zucker said at the time. “The mere fact that you can just say Katie and know who we are talking about is evidence of that.”
He also thought The Jay Leno Show was a good idea.
While I was a big fan of Couric during her many years on Today and in no way hold her responsible for Disney's decision to ditch their soaps, I have never wanted to see a project fail more. Will you guys be watching Katie? Sound off in the comments!

Katie...show should be called Ka-Ching!!...as if she needs it...will not watch show..don't care for her never did...while I love food shows the CHEW doesn't appeal either will stick to Food Network..Zucker didn't know much at NBC what will a change in call letters improve..he is right about one thing when you hear Katie,,you know right away you don't want to view it!!

Yeppers, I will be watching because I love Katie and personally don't have the connection to GH as some viewers. As far as The Chew & The Revolution they are won't last. After reading some of the interviews for The Chew cast they are feeling the pressure and seems worried by the backlash of viewers. Regardless, as how people feel, Katie by far does have the credentials of journalist compare to Julie Chen. Katie could turn circles around Les's old lady in that department. Personally, I love Katie Couric and will support her show.

Katie Couric is a fine journalist and human being. I won't watch her show because I'm sick of talk shows. Why would I watch a talk show when I could a drama? As it is, I don't watch any talk shows on a regular basis.
What are the costs of this show? Isn't ABC paying almost as much for "Katie" as it does for a soap?
My eyes will follow AMC, OLTL, and GH to Prospect Park and whatever cable channel airs them.

If the media is abuzz about a freaking poster, then there must not be much going on in the media world. This ranks up there in importance with a trashy porn star turned reality "star" marrying a second rate basketball player and getting paid by sponsors to do so.
Although I hope GH can find a life outside of the sexist programming executives at ABC, I think there's a HUGE chance that viewers are going to throw up the Chew and say f**k you to a weight loss show that follows a cooking show. If ABC wants out of the soap business, they may get rid of GH but I don't think it's going to be because either of the replacements are going to be a success.
GH would be better off with new executives giving it much needed CPR online but I'm afraid it might be somewhere on ABC's schedule past Ms. Couric's (And NOBODY thinks of her when someone says Katie) debut.
When will America end its addiction to reality and talk shows?

Knowing her name and having any desire whatsoever to tune in are two different things. But by the time her show airs, The Chew and The Revolution will be long gone, so the schedule shouldn't be all that crowded.

I like Katie Couric and really I don't get all the viscious remarks about her. BUt are folks naive enough to think her show failing will bring soaps back to ABC especially when none of the soaps are doing squat in the demo category. And I think creatively these shows could actually evolve and improve with PP provided they don't have all the same crapass showrunners and writers involved.
That said, I will not be watching her because I am not interested in watching another talk show. I don't like Ellen, Dr. Phil, Dr, Oz and I even got tired of Oprah nor do I find nighttime Letterman, Leno, Conan, etc. entertaining either.

Won't be watching her show or anything else ABC offers up on their daytime lineup. No soaps...no me tuning into their boring insipid crap.

There is no way in the world that I will watch any of this "new and exciting lineup"(blech) Disney and Brian Frons deserve all the grief the fans of our soaps are going to give them for this outrage and to even think of cancelling my "General Hospital" even if the writers have been trashing the characters and "mobbing" us to death.... well, it just makes me sick to my stomach! I do like Katie; she's smart, pleasant, and made Sarah Palin look like the fool she is. However, I have no plans to watch her talk show, especially if it's up against my boy, Anderson Cooper's.

America needs another talk show like Saudi Arabia needs more sand. My disinterest or negative remarks have nothing to do with Ms. Couric (although the air of grandiosity about her being a one name brand was a jagged pill to swallow) or being naive about soap's future depending on her failure. ABC is back peddling out of daytime. They returned the time slot to the affiliates, with a huge incentive for them to fill it with Ms. Couric's talkfest. So be it.
I, for one, get reader's negative responses. I am proud to see that people are sick of the same recycled talk show appearing every other year as someone appoints her/himself as the next Oprah. It shows me that soap viewers are a much more intellectual breed than we are given credit for.

I'm not understanding this double negative: "none of the soaps are doing squat in the demo category" - I take it you mean soaps are not doing well in the demographics ABC wants, which is totally untrue. General Hospital is #2 behind the View in ABC daytime, and Katie, who bombed on CBS, is not going to attract enough 18-49s to make her #2. Neither is The Chew or that other thing. And OLTL has been soaring in the ratings lately.

I've never heard of Gossip Girl or Nikita (sorry no cable at my house) so I have no idea how people would feel if their soaps were replaced by them.
If either of those is an entertaining drama with heart and soul, I'd at least give ABC the credit for trying something more original than a talk/cooking show.

nothing against Katie, but I'm just tired of talk shows. at this point, there is nothing one can tell me that another one hasn't already said, and probably better... and the same celebrites can only sit on a couch so many times to talk about themselves before you just finally stop caring, lol
