The Game Changer: Young and Restless Star Michael Muhney Takes on The Daytime Emmys!
Ruh roh, Raggy. The Genoa City Clique might not like this! The Young and the Restless star Michael Muhney (Adam) is speaking out about the insanely unfair and inequitable Daytime Emmy nomination submission process. Here's what the popular star told CBS Soaps In Depth (On newstands now!):
"The blatant oversights need to be rectified," the actor tells Soaps in Depth. "You'd be hardpressed to find people to say that there's not a problem."
Somebody pass the collection plate, because Rev. Muhney is preaching the gospel. It is a doggone shame that actors like One Life to Live's Florencia Lozano, Trevor St. John, Kristen and Eddie Alderson and Y&R's Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott and yes, Muhney himself, continue to be snubbed, while the same old people get nominated year in and year out; many in categories they don't deserve to be in! On that point, Muhney added:
"When your character inherently supports other people's story, and you spend a lot of time on screen talking about other characters then you're supporting them," he muses. "When you're not on screen, and other characters are talking about you, then they're supporting you."
Okay, see now I'm talking in tongues, because I done caught the Holy Ghost. Dude is telling what God loves about this industry — The Truth! I firmly believe one of the main reasons ratings for the Daytime Emmy telecast continues to erode is because the actual awards have become such a joke. Why put yourself up for a lead actor nomination if...you don't drive story?
Who cares where the Daytime Emmys are held, or if Las Vegas has to be a costar to pay for the thing, until the people who actually deserve the nominations receive them, then the Daytime Emmys will continue to become more and more of an embarassment to the industry. Kudos to Muhney and former The Young and the Restless actress Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru) before him for having the nads to speak out!
