Elisabeth Hasselbeck vs. Barry Manilow Among Weirdest Celebrity Feuds
By Luke Kerr on July 28, 2011

The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck may be most famous for her onscreen screaming match with her former co-host Rosie O’Donnell, but it is her feud with Barry Manilow that landed her on Zap2it’s Weird Celebrity Feuds.
"Mandy" singer and adult-contemporary superstar Barry Manilow fought with none other than "The View's" conservative conscience Elisabeth Hasselbeck. At first it was reported that Manilow took exception to Hasselbeck's politics calling them "dangerous and offensive" before pulling out of the show. Later one sources said "The View" producers dumped Manilow after he said he'd only perform if Hasselbeck took that day off. Either way, it's pretty darn weird.
What do you think is the weirdest celebrity feud?

Elizabeth Hasslebitch annoys the crap out of me, and she always has. I can't stand her. I am on Team Barry! I wish Babs would just fire her. Get rid of her and bring back Star Jones!!! Or hire someone else---ANYONE ELSE--- who has an actual PERSONALITY.

good for him. she's an insult to women everywhere. And while I do not watch talk shows, I do remember seeing a clip of her overblown feud with Rosie. I recall Ms. Hasslebeck stating something about our schools would be better off with armed teachers...as in carrying fire arms. Yeah, that's what I want to hear when I turn on the TV.

Barry who? LMAO! He just wouldn't be able to keep up with Elisabeth! Keep up your Conservative views girl; it's such a shame that she's so outnumbered on this show but thank God that she can keep up with them!!
When is Babs going to retire anyway?

As much as Elisabeth irks me, admittedly because I disagree with her politics, it's silly to single her out. Extreme left pundits are just as annoying as extreme right. Elisabeth is an annoying mess with tunnel vision, but so was Rosie on this show. They don't care about liberals and conservative reaching a common ground on The View. They can't do split screens of that.

Jamey,
I enjoyed Rosie on "The View." I didn't find her annoying at all.

Liberals kill me. This is America. We all have a right to our own opinion but if you have a conservative opinion, you are marked a bad person. That's total BS!

Rosie was just as offensive to a conservative, as Elisbeth is to us as liberals. She screamed loudly whenever she wanted to win an argument. She sees things only from her uber liberal bubble, just like Elisabeth sees things from her uber conservative bubble. Then you had the token black anchor going, "Everyone needs to go to church!", while Joy told bad dinner theater stand up and Barbara wished for the days when she was in Qutar interviewing dictators.

That description of the women is pretty dead on, Jamey. This "feud is silly, but if I had to pick a side it would be Barry. I'm a Fanilow

It always strikes me funny that the most christian points of view I hear when I am listening to the view is coming from Whoopi's mouth. She is the one that preaches understanding, forgiveness, nonjudgement. EH just preaches the same ole love "thy money as thyself" and "I am better than you are". Jesus didn't come to earth to create America. He also didn't come here to create a hierarchy of peoples. Noone is better than another and we have all done wrong. I find people who tout conservative "values" and the "American way" to be as far from Christ as is possible. To do these things in his name is atleast odd. As for Barry not wanting to go on with her, I see it as two things. No. 1 he has the right to do whatever he wants to do. No2. he is going on there to sing which has nothing to do with politics so I am not sure what the problem is. If he was going on to announce that he is taking advantage of the new gay marriage in NY, well maybe that would make sense!

Well thats too bad, because I would FLOVE to see Manilow and Hasselbeck go nose-to-nose. I'm also a Fanilow. "I can't smile without you, can't laugh, and I can't cry..."

@ EET and Nat Guy, that comes from years of writing courses that forced me to attempt to summarize a book, movie, TV show in the shortest possible sentences. LOL

I am a Barry Manilow fan of long standing. But...I am just tired of celebrities being so outspoken as to their politics. They have a right to whatever view they subscribe to but usually that viewpoint is used to infer that anyone not in agreement is either bad or stupid. Frankly I don't want to know some of these things.
Can't I just like an actor's talents or musician's music?
There's plenty of disagreement to go around with politicians. They get paid to slam opposing viewpoints.

Yes, Hasslecrap and Rosie are both shrill partisans. The difference is that EH is 100% full of BS while Rosie was only 50%. And then there's the apologist for all male bad behavior: Whoopie (I cannot judge -- puleaze), and that vicious battleaxe Babs who pretends to be maintaining journalistic objectivity on this stupid retrograde bitchfest when all she really is is an effing control freak. And Joy has become a total sell out. And Sherry is a moronic afterthought. I miss Meredith and Debbie.

For the most part Jamey, I'm with you. There's not much that irks me more than the tunnel vision extremists from either side.

alstonboy & Ms. 45,
Just love your "Hasselbitch" and "Hasselcrap" -- both monikers are truly descriptive. I consider myself a Fanilow, too, but there is a totally different reason I would be on Team Barry.
I admire and respect Manilow's talent and his incredible body of work, as well as his very tangible, stellar accomplishments as a musician. All things which EH totally lacks. Her only claims to fame have been as a Survivor contestant and marriage to a professional athlete. Is that all it took for her to land on the View? Oh, the aforementioned combined with her ability to parrot right-wing talking points.
Sometimes those with integrity and a conscience refuse to go along to get along, such as when Jerry Seinfeld refused to appear at the same time, in the same place with Donald Trump. Barry's refusal to sit there and force himself to be civil with the right-wing harpie elevates him to a level EH can only dream of reaching -- for all the right reasons.

Mitzee-
Thanks. I can't take credit for the term "Hasslebitch," though. I stole it from someone on another blogging board.
When I am in a "politically correct" mood, which doesn't occur too often on the these sites, I use the modified version of the term: "Hasslebleep"....

Don't you think it's quite unfair to group Conservatives in the same class and how dare you say that we are all "As far from Christ as is possible"! I'm proud to be a Conservative but I certainly don't classify all Liberals into the same class.
On the other hand, I find it quite odd that an accomplished musician such as Barry Mannilow would use this as an excuse to not do the show; politics aren't always brought up on the show. Politics clearly have their place and time and quite honestly, The View isn't the place for it, in my opinion! I'm not even a fan of Elisabeth but I don't think she deserves all the negative comments that the fans on this site exhibit.
