Debbi Morgan on Drucilla Recast Rumors: "I Wouldn't Even Attempt to Go There"

The fabulous Debbi Morgan took to her official website to discuss her new gig at The Young and the Restless. While the exiting All My Children legend isn't saying who she will be portraying in Genoa City come September, she's definitely setting the record straight on who's chapeaux she won't be filling, that of her real-life pal and Eve's Bayou costar Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla)!
As we get closer to my joining the show, which won't be until September, I will fill you in on who and what my new character is. But for those who have speculated about the possibilty of my taking over the role of the ex- 'Drucilla Winters', played by the wonderfully talented Victoria Rowell, I can tell you absolutely not!...No way...No how! Ms. Rowell has put her stamp on the role of Drucilla, and I know her fans would be outraged to see me, or any other actress, come in and try to take her place. I wouldn't even attempt to go there. As far as I'm concerned, Victoria Rowell is simply irreplaceable as 'Drucilla."
This reminds me of a line in one of my favorie movies, Soul Food, when Maxine (Vivica A. Fox) tells Bird (Nia Long), "You my sistah, girl!"

Debbi Morgan is so incredibly classy and talented. I am thrilled to see her level of loyalty toward her dear friend, Victoria Rowell. I am relieved that TPIC aren't going there, because I was absolutely FRIGHTENED that they were going to hire her to play Dru. And of course, I totally agree with her sentiments, Victoria IS Drucilla. SUBSTITUTES need not apply!! She IS that role in the same way that Susan Lucci is Erica Kane and Deidre Hall is Marlena Evans. Maria is smart to keep Drucilla "DEAD" until the time HOPEFULLY comes later on down the line for Vicki to rejoin the cast.
I would follow Debbi to any show. I simply hope that Maria does right by her, although I KNOW in my heart that she's going to screw this up, as she has done so many times in the past.

Jeepers! I get goosebumps thinking about the possibilities of these two women working together on the same show. Beauty and talent that deserves to be showcased in quality stories that challenge them as actresses and that we get to enjoy watching. One can dream...

They are friends. I couldn't see Debbi doing that. Never.
Plus, I don't think Victoria can be replaced in the role anyway.

I know my posts are like those of an idiot fanboy whenever they're about Debbi Morgan, but I can't help it. I just fell in love with her all over again.
At least I'm not begging that Julia Pace Mitchell get a completely undeserved Emmy.
(The bitch in me couldn't resist.)

Another lovely avatar photo of Victoria Rowell, Alstonboy.
I am showing some AMC love with mine. Watch it kids! Debbi has good stuff coming up. I have loved her since I started watching in the early 80s when Angie and Jenny were BFF'S.
Sniff.

There was someone on here who kept saying she was taking over the role of Dru and I think many of us knew it wasn’t happen … glad it’s been confirmed! Love Debbi, so I am hoping *fingers, eyes, toes, legs, arms* crossed that MAB's does her right! I'm tired of the snatch-n-grab-then-use-n-toss that has become MAB's mantra as of late! You have an extremely talented, TALENTED woman in Debbi, MAB's. Dont f**k it up!

Debbi Morgan do not crack. I love her as an actress, but I have to admit the character of Angie doesn't do it for me. I didn't catch her during her 80's teen years. I was introduced to her on Loving. I also watched her on Port Charles and maybe it's that I find most doctors and lawyers on soaps milquetoasty, unless you they are latina like Maria Santos Grey or Tea Delgado. I want to see Debbi play something else.
Maybe it's the just netflixed Dynasty season 5 disc I watched, but I would love to see Debbi as a Dominque Devereaux-esque character. In another actresses' lip it may be played for full on camp, but Debbi has the range to bring some subtlety. I want to see her as tough and not beseiged by medical dilemmas. I tune in every so often and it's constantly with the eyes. This has gone on longer than Adam's paralysis or Erica's phantom of the opera scarred face. I miss the old days of Natalie's Christmas angel curing blindness and finding lost children. Amanda pull that tree topper out and let's get this over with.

Gotta love Debbi. Class act all the way. I wonder with her being so tight with Victoria, will that cause a lil bit of tension with her co-stars on the set. Cause ya'll already know, Deb ain't about to let nobody over there talk smack about her girl...

alstonboy4315, you beat me to it. Mr. J, you just gave me my first big laugh of the day.
The_Moustache, that would be a hoot. Julia Pace Mitchell is the epitome of the DC expression, ‘that baby don’t know where she IS’. Debbie Morgan can just stand there and not say a word and out act that child.
Way to go Ms. Morgan. Stand by your girlfriend Victoria.

they don't cast "big" name actors in newly created roles anymore on this show.
she'll be a nu-somebody.

It really irks me that they will bring on Debbi Morgan but they won't sign Tonya Lee Williams to a contract. Ugh!

Like Alistair Crane, it really irks me that they are even bothering to bring on another actress, when we already have way too many characters on,
what was at one time a fabulous show that MAB makes worse on a weekly basis. How sad that she feels like she has to hire all actors from all the cancelled soaps. She needs to hire another writer instead of all these people that will do nothing to improe the show.

What Maria Bell needs to do is rehire Bill Bell's writing staff. Starting with Kay Alden. I am not saying that Maria should step down but she needs better writers than she has working with her.

I'm saying it, "Maria should step down." This is not my Y&R.

Correction needed here Tonya was offered a contract in the past and she didn't want it. She has been too busy working on with Black Film Festival company in Canada. So she has not minded appearing on a recurring status. Lets remember other actors are on Recurring and appear a lot. So this is all good.

I actually think Maria did a good job from August 08-April 09 but she's sucked since then. She needs to be paired with a good co-head writer like Kay Alden.

@marknsprmo: I say pair Kay with Sally Sussman Morina and have you a strong writing team who both understand the show and its characters. They both have a long history with Y&R. And plus you need someone who knows how to actually write a story bible. Both could write a story bible together with long term projections for the entire cast and would know how to work with the talented actors and how to cultivate the Z-listers.

IA (when she first came on board) but IA with a DC podcast I believe its Jamey who said she was good at fixing what was broke at that time coming in cleaning it up repairing damage already on the canvas,
however, when it came to introducing new material / stories is when she ran amok.
As for Debby I too hope they have a place for her its "how they write her." They keep bringing in talent but the story isn't there for them. I liked what she said re: Vicky's Dru' like Shemar's Malcolm IMO their personalities made the role. He said Bill Bell let him put his nuances in it.... I also read it was Tonya' preference not to be on contract not sure if its true but I read she was busy with her film festival...
