BREAKING NEWS: ABC CONFIRMS All My Children and One Life to Live Have Been Licensed; Will Continue Online!!!

It looks like the New York Post got it right! ABC has issued a press release confirming All My Children and One Life to Live have been licensed to Prospect Park and are set to continue online! See the release in its full glory below:

BURBANK, CA – July 7, 2011 – ABC has licensed its iconic soaps, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” to Prospect Park, it was announced today by Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group & Janice Marinelli, President, Disney/ABC Domestic Television and Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park.

The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps’ stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC. ABC will broadcast its final episode of “All My Children” on Friday, September 23rd and will air the final episode of “One Life to Live” in January, 2012.

The licensing agreement, brokered by Disney/ABC Domestic Television Group, enables Prospect Park to continue production of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” beyond their life on ABC. Prospect Park will produce and deliver the two long-running programs to consumers via online formats and additional emerging platforms including internet enabled television sets. Under the terms of the arrangement, the programs will continue to be delivered with the same quality and in the same format and length. Additional details of the new productions and tune-in will be forthcoming from Prospect Park.

“We are privileged to continue the legacy of two of the greatest programs to air on daytime television, and are committed to delivering the storylines, characters and quality that audiences have come to love for over 40 years. ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are television icons, and we are looking forward to providing anytime, anywhere viewing to their loyal community of millions,” said Frank and Kwatinetz. “Technology changes the way the public can and will view television shows. Now that there are so many devices available in addition to television sets, viewers are taking advantage of watching shows wherever they are and on any number of devices. The driving force in making the switch and attracting new audiences is to have outstanding programs that people want to watch. We believe that by continuing to produce the shows in their current hour format and with the same quality, viewers will follow the show to our new, online network.”

“’All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are iconic pieces of television history that captivated millions of fans since their beginning over 40 years ago,” said Frons. “Each of the shows have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history and informed our consciousness in their own way. We are so glad Prospect Park has assumed the mantel for these shows and that they will continue for the fans.”

Marinelli continued, “From the time the shift in the daytime strategy was announced, our hope was to find a new home for these treasured shows. We are thrilled to license them to Prospect Park so the stories of life in Pine Valley and Llanview can continue to be told for the passionate and loyal fans that enjoy watching each day.”

“I’m just so happy that ABC found a home where the legacies of ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ can continue. I’m excited for their future with Prospect Park,” added Agnes Nixon, creator of both “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” “It takes a lot of living to make a soap opera a serial, and the wonderful teams on both shows have done just that. Together, we are a big family that keeps going, and I’m looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people as we ensure that the shows will continue with all the love and excitement we’ve always had. I also am so happy for our loyal fans, whom we love so much, and who have been so supportive over the last 40 plus years.”

Prospect Park is a media and production company founded in 2009 by entertainment industry veterans Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios head Rich Frank. Along with successful film and music divisions, the company’s television group has numerous shows in development and breakout network hits airing, including “Royal Pains” and “Wilfred.”

In April, ABC announced that it was expanding the focus of its daytime lineup to include more programming that is informative and authentic and centers on transformation, food and lifestyle. “The Chew,” an innovative and groundbreaking daily talk show that celebrates and explores life through food, will premiere on September 26th. “The Revolution,” a daily show about health and lifestyle transformations, will replace “One Life to Live” in January 2012 ."

I’m with jlaff on post #27 … thinking positive, thinking positive … Innocent

In the meantime, I’m thinking of the love scenes getting racier… Hell, the web doesn't have the same limitations. Yep, my mind’s in the gutter… what have I got to lose now?? And at least we care about these characters and the actors can act... LOL

@Alistarcrane: I've done everything by the letter of the law. I've stayed out of your face. I've kept my mouth shut! I've done everything that i'm supposed to do. But that's not good enough for you! You wanna draw blood? Well we can draw blood!

I hope that both AMC and OTL will write strong, satisfying television finales for the audience not making the migration to the online versions.

I wonder how many WON'T make the migration, soapbaby. I think a significant portion of the mainstream audience (not us, the crazy internet people Wink) won't bother. I think that will make it even less likely that the new online version will succeed. Still, I'm trying to look at the bright side.

@TV Gord: I think as long as they promote it right that it can work. If Days can get over 4 million views a month online so can both Nixon soaps. The question is whom will write it? Please let it be Lorraine.

I hope it is Lorraine Broderick as well. She's a great writer!

David46208--

Your Drucilla quotes are killing me softly. Love

However,

I respectfully choose to stay NEUTRAL in regards to all the in-fighting and bickering that's going on among you all. I have never had any personal problems with AlistairCrane, and we actually get along pretty well. I also admire and respect all of you in unique ways. You all bring unique brands of fabulosity to this board, which makes it so much damn fun to come on here. So I won't be choosing sides or involving myself in your personal battles.

Love you all to bits and pieces. Love

For people who are worried that All My Children will be a "shell" of it's former self, it has been that for the past six years. I'm sure a lot of vets will be shown the door, but as long as we see a few familiar faces, I am satisfied. If you were trapped under a beam in a burning building, and you had the choice to cut off your leg and get out alive, or stay there with both legs and no life, most people would choose to live hoveling around. When the vets are cut, AMC will be legless, but alive.

I am just happy that these shows will have new life, and I can't wait to see what that means. I also am willing to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee for the show(Drunk.

I am trying to look on the bright-side too but it seems like it could be the kiss of death (like Peapack, NJ or Direct TV for Guiding Light and Passions, respectively) ad extend the inevitable.

If the shows want to survive on the internet I would recommend that they go to 30-minute formats with much leaner casts. Heck, hire out Crystal Chappell or some of the other innovators in web-based entertainment.

This is fabulous news for the soap industry! So happy for those who stood their ground and kept being optimistic for the shows to continue on. Happy to see OLTL back most of all.

Congratulations to the cast & crew of AMC and OLTL (as well as their die hard fans).

I am very happy at hearing that jobs will be saved and that these shows have a chance at continuing..

I have a wait and see attitude. I agree with soapbaby, hopefully they will still produce good finales in September (AMC) and OLTL in January for the people who will not make the transistion to online. I just can't see myself watching these on my computer. I am also skeptical of production values as they will need to make a profit-it is a business after all. I watched Guiding Light for 20 plus years until the last 2 years when it became unwatchable to me with bad writing and cheap production values to save money. Guess I rather see these soaps go out on a high note and avoid delaying the inevitable cost cutting cheap productions they will become.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this mean that OLTL will bring back Kish! (Kyle Lewis & Oliver Fish)! Their storyline was cut MUCH too short!!!

^^ Never once did I say anything negative about OLTL and AMC going online. In fact, I haven't revealed how I feel about it one way or another. I merely pointed out that OLTL has been paring down its cast, eliminating veterans and bringing on newcomers, possibly as cost-cutting measures to make the online series producable. matealestlmo, you are actually the most miserable poster I have ever encountered online, and your obsession with me is beyond creepy. I don't know why you stalk me and bash me. The attention is flattering, but you yourself are spooky.

Hey I thought I was the number one stalker!

I am so fucking sick of the naysayers. If it doesn't work, at least they tried. Ya'll bitched & moaned for the shows to continue, and now they are. All the people who aren't or "can't" watch online are full of shit. Web is the new TV and TV is the new radio. EVERYONE has access to a damn computer. Plus, they said other platforms, so that could mean smartphones and Netflix. We have all said that soaps need to evolve and they finally are. Support the movement, or get the fuck outta the way!!!!

I hope that the news about One Life to Live and All My Children is true. And, yes, if I have to pay to watch the online version so be it!!

I am ecstatic! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo happy but the fight continues to get the soaps available to all! The coupon drive is the first step, we need to get everyone we know on board so that the Networks don't kill our Soaps across the boards. Still, it is a wonderful break-through and I would love to thank all soapfans world-wide (A lot of internationals have been ACTIVE) for smacking down the soap-genecide going on at the alphabet Network! THANK YOU!!!

As much as I want the fans of these two shows to have their shows back somewhere, somehow, I am afraid this is going to be a huge disappointment.

There are qute a few questions still to be answered, but I have to belive AMC and OLTL airing *somewhere* is better than them not airing it at all.

I'm totally stoked about this. I've watched my stories for 35 years and watch them via Hulu when I miss them already. I have a Roku so they will probably be made available to watch on my TV that way. Thrilling!!!

As for the suits already removing the vets, I'm not so sure about that. I think a lot of people leaving wanted out before their contracts were up because of the situation. And I don't call the Ford brothers or Aubrey and whats-his-name vets. I heard that Dorian was leaving for health reasons (whether or not that's true, who knows?). I read somewhere that Susan Lucci was onboard. Yay! I think actors who have the options of move to LA for work or take a pay cut to work at the job you love in the city that you love, some may opt for the pay cut. New actors will certainly jump at the chance to get the experience that comes with working on soaps for less than union wages.

It could be a lot like the beginnings of soaps. If they hire actors of ALL ages, with well written storylines, they could cut a lot of production costs on the glam and glitz. JMHO

If all people who watch now would watch this web version online, I think everyone would be shocked at the true numbers. I think Nielson is an outdated dinosaur of a ratings system. I kept a diary one week of my 50 yr life and I only know one other person who's done the same. The web viewing can keep track of true numbers.

All I know is that I'm tickled pink!

I dunno ...

Won't this be a big blow to the egos of some of these stars? I mean, how many aspiring young actors out there right now are aiming for TV stardom ... on a internet soap opera???

I have a feeling these two shows WILL GO ON on the internet but the canvas will be littered with unrecognizables in the next couple of years. There will be no Susan Luccis, no Michael E. Knights and certainly no Erika Slezaks.

Apparently, The_Moustache thinks that only 2 people have access to/are going to watch AMC & OLTL online. DC gets MILLIONS of hits every month? I love how many people are underestimating the internet. Do you actually think that Prospect Park would pour money into those shows if it was that pointless? A lot of you soap fans need to educate yourselves on the wonders of turning a profit on the web.

How do you think that Crystal Chappelle is able to do a 3rd season of Venice? Because the series is MAKING MONEY! Why is damn near every TV show out here available online? Because BILLIONS of people use the net every goddamn day. Maybe the shows should've stayed canceled, at least all this negativity would be warranted. I understand being cautious & hesitant, but this is fucking ridiculous. Has it ever occurred to any of you that the shows don't have to be viewed by 2.5 million people in order to be profitable?

If at least a million people (or 500,000 subscribers) would traffic the site monthly, that could make a ton of loot. I have my reservations just like everyone else, but I'm gonna continue to stay cautiously optimistic about this whole thing...

Sorry about the copying & pasting of my posts. I just wanna let everyone know how I feel LOL Smile

Bold move by PP and I hope they will turn it into a success story!
As for actors I see some going and some staying, just like any other soap.
