BREAKING NEWS: ABC CONFIRMS All My Children and One Life to Live Have Been Licensed; Will Continue Online!!!

It looks like the New York Post got it right! ABC has issued a press release confirming All My Children and One Life to Live have been licensed to Prospect Park and are set to continue online! See the release in its full glory below:
BURBANK, CA – July 7, 2011 – ABC has licensed its iconic soaps, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” to Prospect Park, it was announced today by Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group & Janice Marinelli, President, Disney/ABC Domestic Television and Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park.
The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps’ stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC. ABC will broadcast its final episode of “All My Children” on Friday, September 23rd and will air the final episode of “One Life to Live” in January, 2012.
The licensing agreement, brokered by Disney/ABC Domestic Television Group, enables Prospect Park to continue production of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” beyond their life on ABC. Prospect Park will produce and deliver the two long-running programs to consumers via online formats and additional emerging platforms including internet enabled television sets. Under the terms of the arrangement, the programs will continue to be delivered with the same quality and in the same format and length. Additional details of the new productions and tune-in will be forthcoming from Prospect Park.
“We are privileged to continue the legacy of two of the greatest programs to air on daytime television, and are committed to delivering the storylines, characters and quality that audiences have come to love for over 40 years. ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are television icons, and we are looking forward to providing anytime, anywhere viewing to their loyal community of millions,” said Frank and Kwatinetz. “Technology changes the way the public can and will view television shows. Now that there are so many devices available in addition to television sets, viewers are taking advantage of watching shows wherever they are and on any number of devices. The driving force in making the switch and attracting new audiences is to have outstanding programs that people want to watch. We believe that by continuing to produce the shows in their current hour format and with the same quality, viewers will follow the show to our new, online network.”
“’All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are iconic pieces of television history that captivated millions of fans since their beginning over 40 years ago,” said Frons. “Each of the shows have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history and informed our consciousness in their own way. We are so glad Prospect Park has assumed the mantel for these shows and that they will continue for the fans.”
Marinelli continued, “From the time the shift in the daytime strategy was announced, our hope was to find a new home for these treasured shows. We are thrilled to license them to Prospect Park so the stories of life in Pine Valley and Llanview can continue to be told for the passionate and loyal fans that enjoy watching each day.”
“I’m just so happy that ABC found a home where the legacies of ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ can continue. I’m excited for their future with Prospect Park,” added Agnes Nixon, creator of both “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” “It takes a lot of living to make a soap opera a serial, and the wonderful teams on both shows have done just that. Together, we are a big family that keeps going, and I’m looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people as we ensure that the shows will continue with all the love and excitement we’ve always had. I also am so happy for our loyal fans, whom we love so much, and who have been so supportive over the last 40 plus years.”
Prospect Park is a media and production company founded in 2009 by entertainment industry veterans Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios head Rich Frank. Along with successful film and music divisions, the company’s television group has numerous shows in development and breakout network hits airing, including “Royal Pains” and “Wilfred.”
In April, ABC announced that it was expanding the focus of its daytime lineup to include more programming that is informative and authentic and centers on transformation, food and lifestyle. “The Chew,” an innovative and groundbreaking daily talk show that celebrates and explores life through food, will premiere on September 26th. “The Revolution,” a daily show about health and lifestyle transformations, will replace “One Life to Live” in January 2012 ."

Now do you see why OLTL is getting rid of its vets early and centering the show around the newbies? Newcomers are cheaper and inexpensive and will apparently lead the show into its digital format. I think OLTL was aware of this plan for a while.

I couldn't be happier for both shows and the fans!
I want to say congratulations and a sincere thank you to all the fans who didn't let these shows go without a fight. Without all the backlash and mainstream media attention, chances are OLTL and AMC would not have been saved.

We will lose some faves, I am sure, but this is a time to celebrate! Let's embrace those who make the move with us to the world wide web, and support these soaps! I have watched AMC online for a year now, so it won't be that much different for me. I am THRILLED! Remember, let's celebrate!

To be honest...I am on the fence about this.
Like I said on my twitter, I need to know FULL DETAILS before I get excited about this.
For me, something is just off about this.
I hate to be a Debbie downer. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE AMC and OLTL. This news is just strange to me.

Quite surprising, but welcome, if only for the experimental nature of it all. Still curious what "Under the terms of the arrangement, the programs will continue to be delivered with the same quality and in the same format and length. Additional details of the new productions and tune-in will be forthcoming from Prospect Park." means, though. I expect OLTL's outdoor shooting will become much, much more common.

Few Questions
1) Since It will be daily and 60 min format wont change as per PR but it could air just 2 or 3 days a week in stead of 5 and because the platform changed TV to web all the actors will need new contracts right?
2) since ABC lisenced and not sold they will still make money off this?
3) since abc Lisenced does that mean some of the money for production will still come from them or is this all on Prospect Park???

I apologize for my lack in serious TV speak.....but they say "licensed"....does this mean that the properties will still be owned by Disney/ABCD, but produced and broadcast independently by Prospect Park?

Geez Alistair, do you have to be such a downer on the best news to happen in daytime television in a long, long time!? I'd like to pour some Big Brother slop on your head to shut your downer mouth up!

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic on this one. I do hope Lorraine Broderick stays on as Head Writer for a while longer.
Plus, you never know. Check it out. Hopefully those damn new reality shows will fail and fail big time fairly soon, Frons and Sweeny will get the old heave ho out the door, and AMC/OLTL can return totally intact.

I'm extremely pleased at this turn of events.
Will GH follow suit? If so, I will earmark my web viewing as needed to make room for my dear friends not just in Port Charles, but I will gladly navigate back to Llanview and Pine Valley. Still praying for this format to be successful; every little bit helps...

Hey matealestlmo, shut yo' pie hole! I'm just being realistic and commenting on the facts.
Now, what I want to know is: Will these shows be region-exclusive? What about Canadian fans? Will we be blocked from watching AMC and OLTL on the website? If so, how will they be available outside of the US? Also, will the episodes be available to download on iTunes? Allowing viewers to purchase a season pass and download episodes to their iPads is a great step in modernizing soaps for a modern audience.

I have to wait and see how this pans out. Watching on TV vs online is definitely different. And while I can stream to my TV using appleTV and other iOS devices, its not quite the same experience for me. But I'm old school. I had to watch Bold & Beautiful from CBS dot com yesterday and it was a different experience (not as good as from my dvr). I'm looking forward to more details. If they would just create a real soap channel and put all of the shows on cable and run them along with all of the great shows of the past, that would be totally awesome.

Hi All......Oh wow! Thank goodness it's true. It will be an adjustment. Favorites will go and it will probably be rough in the beginning, but at least we have an option! I will GLADLY pay to support both of these shows. I guess I need to buy one of those internet TV's since I'm in need of a new one anyways.
I just hope, somehow someway, Ron C stays on at OLTL rather than going to GH. However, I think ABC will probably make him fulfill his ABC contact. But if Garin starts righting the ship over there (please, oh please), maybe the won't need Ron to come help out...
Can we NOW declare a cease fire on all the Frons hate (and toward ABC, Anne Sweeney, and the Disney execs)? Yes, I was one of his most vocal critics and called for heads, but at least THEY found a solution to make us happy! This could be the break soaps need! Who knows what kind of numbers the shows can get online. It's HOPE for a future with our soaps and that's something we've been without for a long, long time! Let's be grateful for the second chance!

Eh. I hate watching shows on the computer or my iPod. Streaming is nice when it's a 5 minute YouTube video, not so much for a 38 minute show. There's a reason I still hold on to my satellite and Netflix streaming subscriptions, I like sitting down on my couch to watch tv.
When they announce plans that the shows will be available to stream over the Wii (or the upcoming Wii U), then I'll get excited.

Now, I'm all for a good conspiracy theory, but soaps have been trying to shove younger newbies down our throats for a long time. They do it in a confused erroneous attempt at getting new younger viewers. What they don't realize is that young viewers think Dorian scenes with Ghost Mel are a million times better than scenes between Ford the Himbo and Tess the Imaginary Person just like older viewers do.
I think this is amazing news. When a cult-popular but poorly rated sci-fi show I loved was canceled this year, I thought that they should air it on iTunes. (The production company wanted to continue the series, but the network it aired on did not.) Now we haven't been told that iTunes is a part of Prospect Park's strategy, but it's kind of a similar model that is being tried here. With online only shows like Venice paving the way, this may very well be a path to the future that soaps should think very seriously about.
However, if PP region locks the show so that only US based viewers can watch (like ABC.com and CBS.com does with their videos) I will be very very angry.

For those of you that are having doubts about this and are being debby downers in this thread, we all know that a lot of the details still need to be worked out. I am sure that this will all take place shortly and we'll know the full scope of how this will all work. So, for the time being, could you all just be happy that AMC and OLTL will indeed live on past TV and on the internet?! Let's all be happy about this. This is great news to celebrate! So, let's celebrate that good news instead of being debby downers as some have called themselves on this thread!

I agree, this is great news. These soaps will continue, but can you blame me for being a little skeptical? As a soap fan, we have all been burned so many times by this genre.
But I will try and stay positive.

An excerpt from SID:
One actor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, seems skeptical on exactly how things will work out, even with Prospect Park promising to deliver the programs with the same quality and in the same length and format, per the agreement with ABC. "My personal thought, it won't be the same show," says the setsider. "There's no way they can afford to produce the show like we currently do and make any money from it online. Even Susan Lucci's (Erica) pay for one episode is more than an online show could generate. I'm guessing the whole thing would be low-budget and different. It's just too expensive!"

MY RESPONSE:
Im so sick of folks hiding and not having balls to say who they r when they make quotes like this
Also New Deals will have to be workede out with all actors from both shows because its moving from TV to Web so if this ACTOR is so skeptical, MOVE THE FUCK ON, SHUT UP & Let Us Be Happy For A Minute Before U Shit All Over This
