Like Buzzards Circling Over Cattle: The Chew Premiere Set Just Three Days After All My Children Finale!

ABC Daytime won't even be waiting until Erica Kane and Co. are lukewarm in their television grave before premiering the long-running All My Children's replacement. According to Zap2it, The Chew will premiere Monday, Sept. 26, just three days after AMC's rumored two-hour send-off

The grub-themed talk show dedicated to "celebrating and exploring life through food," (Why don't they just call it The Chronicles of Gluttony and be done with it?) will star Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall (Top Chef), Clinton Kelly (What Not To Wear) and Dr Oz's daughter Daphne Oz. Yeah, because a foodie/lifestyle show is so unique and thus certainly capable of becoming Appointment TV.

Newsflash to the brass at ABC, there are whole cable networks where people can watch these kinds of programs 24/7. You know, like SOAPnet used to be for soaps until Brian "Southern Belles: Madagascar" Frons got a hold of it?

I can't imagine what will be so all-fired special about The Chew that it will make someone tune in five-days-a-week. What, will Mario Batali and Carla Hall get into screaming matches over the way Sarah Palin sautees her mushrooms, as opposed to the way Barack Obama does, during Sweeps?

Those political screaming matches are the only reason people still tune in to watch The View. If it hadn't been for former co-host Rosie O'Donnell turning that show into a political slugfest, The View would have been cancelled seasons ago, so attempting to clone it by simply substituting pigs in a blankets for pigs in office likely won't work. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Similar talk shows from Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray and Nate Berkus have struggled to find audiences in recent years. Ray's show is constantly on cancellation watch and Stewart's self-titled talker had to move to Hallmark, where it was swiftly beaten to a bloody (yet no doubt casually stylish) pulp by those pioneer gals on Little House on the Prairie.

No offense to any of the hosts (Who I am sure are all just positively lovely, God-fearing individuals!), but I see this gourmet fish going belly up in about six months tops. What do you guys think?  Will you be watching The Chew? Sound off in the comments!

4 words: Just don't watch it. Seriously. Don't talk about it. Don't even think about it! Just don't watch it. If you are an AMC fan, instead please tune into Days of Our Lives at 1 PM on September 26.

Yes, tune into DOOL! I hear we might see a few AMC faces in Salem down the road!

No, Days is bringing back its fan faves Marlena, John, Jack and others that week. This is also the week the new writers' new stories begin. Days is not, I repeat, NOT, a refuge for ex-AMC stars.

I plan to give DAYS another shot after AMC goes off the air. It's gotta be better than B&B is right now.

Well, Days' plan is to attract AMC fans without a show to watch---Ken Corday came right out and said so in his recent SOD interview. That's why new stories begin and familiar faces return the week after AMC's last episode. (Note: The new writers' work begins in mid-August but they are spending the first month wrapping up stories started by the previous head writer.)

What on earth do skinny bitch Clinton Kelly and Dr. Oz's daughter know about food?!? If we're going to go for, as Jamey so aptly calls it, "fat porn," at least get a bunch of heifers who know how to eat host the damn thing!

No thanks, we have our own favourites we want back. We don't need unemployed actors from other soaps taking over our show!

Days will be lucky if they get some of AMC's actors!! They could stand to lose a few hair models...

I think we could see an AMC actor on DOOL easily. Jacob Young has been rumored to be a possible recast for Phillip. I am not saying it is happening and I think there are plenty of great actors and characters on DOOL right now that would attract AMC fans. I just also believe there is a good chance a former AMC actor or actress could also end up in Salem at some point. After all, if Eddie Winslow can replace Shemar Moore in daytime, anything is possible..ha ha Smile

DOOL would be smart to do some sort of 'catch up' episode- online or something that could help new fans get a grip on what is happening on the show.

I agree with Alistair Crane re: AMC and OLTL actors to an extent. I would be okay with them playing legacy characters, but only sparringly. Bringing on a bunch of people from other soaps never works. If say they decided to make Melissa Archer Sarah Horton or Josh Kelly Jeremy Horton I wouldn't hate it. But it will suck if all of Llanview and Pine Valley shows up in Salem.

Yes, Jamey, that is what I mean! Smile Yes, Melissa archer would be hot as Sarah! Smile

They aren't going to bring back Philip (one "L" only). The firing of Chloe, the addition of new young Kiriakis male Sonny, and the fact that there are no other characters in his age range (Belle and Shawn are not returning) indicates as much.

I agree with Jamey---one need only look at Y&R as an example of bad casting choices. It hardly looks like Y&R anymore---it looks like a bad mash-up of P&G and ABC soaps. Ugh. Don't bring AMC stars to Days! We want to maintain OUR identity, and I would be furious if we lost a fan fave Days character in favour of an unemployed AMC star.

They are doing a special episode on September 23 but I have no idea what it'll be about.

I have said this many times; I will not DVR or watch anything on ABC after September 23rd. I'm done. I love Grey's and Private Practice, but I will watch them only online (I know it gives them some kind of ratings, but at least it is not Neilsen, which I think is most important). Not sure I can get into Days (was not ever a fan, but one can try). I know I can do a lot more reading now.

This is reason I haven't done many Wishful Castings in awhile. With only four soaps post-January, these shows need to stop admiring other peoples' lawns and trim their own damn grass.

If it's smart and strategic, I am all for it. Maggie needs her daughter in Salem. If a popular ABC actor was cast I wouldn't mind it, as long as it was organic and they had a solid story for her. Same with GH. Wouldn't mind JP Lavoisier or Josh Kelly as Dillon Q (although I wish they would just wait till Brad Bell eventually gets bored with Scott Clifton, which Brad always does. LOL)

Unfortunately though the way the soaps will do, we will get Michael Easton, Rebecca Budig and Cameron Mathison all forced onto the canvases of the remaining shows with no long story in place all in a mass snatch-and-grab. That never works. It hurts the actors AND the shows.

Jamey: what do you recommend that ABC do? Take three weeks before the new show begins and play sad music every day for an hour during the former AMC timeslot?

DAYS is stupid. Sorry, won't give them my viewership until the day they bring back Crystal & I won't recommend them either. Not one of the actors listed in "fan fave" returns interests me. Not a one.

Watch OLTL, GH, Y&R, and B&B, or even Guiding Light reruns on YT.

I work full-time, so I dvr my soaps (GH and DOOL). I will not ever dvr a talk show, eating show, or any other drivel that ABC puts on in place of its soaps. NEVER!

Jamey, I agree. Y&R is virtually unrecognizable now with all the former ABC and P&G stars. I don't want to see my soap, Days, turn into that. I can't accept soap stars in new roles on other soaps: On Y&R, I don't see Genevieve, I see a drugged-out, campy version of Laura. I couldn't accept Melissa Archer as Sarah Horton--I would just see her as Natalie.

The remaining soaps need to focus on their OWN identities, not filling their casts up with out-of-work soap stars who were unlucky enough to be on shows that got cancelled. Days is already making the right approach by bringing back faves like Marlena and John rather than trying to scoop up Susan Lucci or something.

I've never watched any soaps other than the ones on ABC! But Y&R is on from 12:30-1:30PM in my time zone so I'll start watching Y&R and find something else to watch at 1:30. Chewie is DOA in my opinion!!! Angry Angry Angry

Am I the only one who finds it crazy that ABC is replacing our soaps with a show about weightloss and a show about cooking?
