RUMOR REPORT: Did Judith Light Turn Down a One Life to Live Finale Cameo?!

Don't expect Karen Wolek to make a return trip to Llanview, PA. before One Life to Live ends next January. According to sources, Judith Light recently declined an offer from the sudser to reprise the career-making role as the housewife hooker she played from 1977-1983.
I'm hearing this isn't the first time Light has turned OLTL down, despite always speaking fondly of her time on the serial in the press. Reportedly the brass wanted Light to appear as Karen for the soap's 40th anniversary back in 2008, but the Who's The Boss? and Ugly Betty star allegedly passed that time as well.
Here's hoping, with seven months left before the finale, TPTB will somehow be able to convince Light to change her mind. Watch a clip of Light as Karen Wolek on the stand after the jump!

It would have been fun to see her back but when you've been off the show for almost 30 years and none of the people from your time are still on the show (except for Bo & Vicki) it really doesn't make much sense to come back even for a cameo.

I wasn't alive when Judith Light was on OLTL, but I saw the classic courtroom scene on A Daytime to Remember and loved it. I hope this doesn't deter them from bringing back Larry Wolek.

It saddens me that Judith doesn't seem to want to come back, but I guess I have no choice but to accept her wishes. I still have nothing but the utmost respect for her.
Her scenes will go down in TELEVISION HISTORY (for me) as the best courtroom scenes EVER. Cynthia Watros' courtroom scenes on GL back in 1997 are a close second. It also saddens me that daytime will more than likely NEVER be able to boast such levels of magnificent writing and rich character development, as was the case with Karen Wolek. But that's another argument for another thread, I suppose.
I too hope that she can be swayed to change her mind, and that when and if that time ever comes, Ron and Frank will write her some decent material.

She probably turned on the show one day and based her descision on that. Even though I like the show, it is a far cry from that clip. And to be fair she never really said she would return, so it's not like she "owes" them anything. her star peak after that sitcom and now she's a revered character actress. It's not like it's a Josh Duhamel, Julianne Moore, or Kelly Ripa thing. And where would she fit? Unless it would've been a scene where Karen and Viki talk about old times in Llandfair, this doesn't need to happen.

I was really looking forward to Karen returning. More so than any other character coming back.

They could also bring back Larry.
I don't know what the cameo would have been, but considering how badly written the returns have been over the last few years (Tina, Carlo, Rebecca, Marty, Patrick, among others), she is probably best off staying away.

Good I'd rather see Tina, Lindsay, Andrew, Kevin, Cassie, Mel for Dorian and Kish returning.

As much as I might like to see Judith Light on OLTL again, let's be completely honest here...her time has past. The characters that she was involved with are no longer there (remember Marco Dane, the Wolek's - Larry, Wanda, and Vinny, Katrina Carr, etc...???) THEY were great and so was she. There is no purpose for an appearance unless she and Vicki were riding off into the sunset for the finale.

Ditto. I can remember the scene on the stand as she blurted out she was a whore!! I agree, it was one of daytime's best storylines. That along with the BJ storyline on GH were history.
I have seen Judith Light on primetime. She plays a judge on a few shows. She looks beautiful. Time has been kind to her. I don't see much sense of her coming back unless Larry Wolek was also asked. Or his son Danny.
Whatever happened to Aunt Wanda?? I believe she is still alive.
Nice though, to know, that OLTL asked her back. At least we know they are 'trying'. KUDOS for that.

Dag gobbit, I was hoping that she would come back, I was too young to see her as Karen, but I have seen them on Youtube, and as I thought she was fantastic, I am sure she has her reasons, let's hope the other actors they ask say yes.

I wonder if she turned it down because of the terms of the return, not necessarily because she doesn't want to return. Maybe they wanted her for longer than she was willing to commit? Hopefully they can still work it out. This "story" isn't sourced after all, so it's just rumors and speculation at this point.
If I were pitching her return, I would have Karen come back to reunite with her daughter...Kimberly, who is returning to the show. Karen could have kicked Kim out of the house as a teenager over her promiscuity and Karen's fears that Kim was going down the same path as Karen did. Karen has been trying to track Kim down because her father Steve has a fatal illness and is near death. She is stunned to discover that Kim is in Llanview. Karen meets with Viki and they play catchup. She and Kim have a bitter reunion and Kim calls out Karen for being a whore and having had no right to kick her out of the house. Flashback to those great courtroom scenes. Viki stands up for Karen and urges Kim to forgive her mother.

What would be the point of her making a cameo? At this point, all the characters she was connected to are gone. To shoehorn her into the show just for the sake of an appearance is awkward.

There is no reason for her to say no. Even stars like Josh Duhmal are coming back to AMC. She could come back for a few episodes.

Love Judith Light as Karen Wolek. However, the veteran performer I would like to see back is Robin Strasser and she hasn't even left yet. Dorian and Viki are the heart and soul of this soap.

When a show is going off I see no reason for returns. These actors have moved on. I would just write for current casts. For me it is awkward and silly. I remember how silly it was to have Julianne Moore walk in a door, walk to a couch and go to commercial. Plus, afterward Iheard she was annoyed by some stuff not worth mentioning. These actors move on and I think sometimes they come back so as not to offend. I think all and all it is better to just write for the current casts.

Sometimes Judith gets very nervous & scared when she starts to throw herself into a challenging project & then tries to talk herself out of doing the project. Soaps nowadays shoot super-fast with no time for the actors to rehearse; in her glory days on OLTL, Judith, Erika & the other actors had hours to rehearse. Judith can still change her mind!

This is strange, because I thought I thought I read an inteview where Judith said she'd very much like to return. I think maybe those that say she'd rather have a larger role an dnot a cameo are correct.

I heard something different from Judith Light herself in an interview. It was a recent one. She said if they asked her, she'd probably go on. These were words from her own mouth so now I'm confused lol.

I agree with the poster who pointed out how long it's been since she was on the show. I am thinking the same thing--Viki and Bo and Clint and Dorian are the only characters who would know her. I would like to see Larry back. He left more recently, and he is Viki's brother-in-law, and a doctor, and there's PLENTY going on with Clint and Matthew and others to justify a visit from a doctor. Let's say he has been teaching at Johns Hopkins or someplace prestigious.
I don't know if the show will indulge in some flashbackery, but there must be tons of scenes of Viki and Larry together. I think at this point a reunion of Viki and Clint would not be all that unthinkable, and maybe reminiscing about her relationships with Larry, a lifelong friend, would work well in a storyline.
I was watching a clip of Viki on the stand as Niki after Harry O'Neill died, and I noticed how Jenny was such a good friend to Viki. She doesn't have many peers as friends beyond Nora, and Dorian is leaving soon (her frenemy). Larry returning would make more sense than Karen Wolek. Also, Judith Light is looking a bit long in the tooth. Maybe the best way to remember Karen Wolek is how she looked when she left in 1983...

I think Judith Light basically represents for those of us who remember her, is her amazing performance on the stand shouting she was a whore.
Remember, back then we didn't have spoilers, so when something happened, it made it even better to view!
Good point though, not many in Landview would know who she is. Especially the new teen stories!!!!!
As far as Larry Wolek coming back, where was he when Matthew needed him? Or John McBain's brother Michael? You would think someone that the families know personally would be called in.
No 2nd opinions??
