One Life to Live Recap: Against All Odds

Clint:  Rex tried to kill me, and contrary to what he wants all of you to believe, I don’t want anybody to die.  I feel terrible about that young woman.  I feel terrible for Shane, but Gigi is brain dead, she’s gone.  But her loss doesn’t have to be in vain.  With her help, I can live.  I can be with my family a little longer.  And that’s what’s gonna happen.  And Rex has to accept it.  He’s got no other choice.

Clint tells Rex that he has no legal rights regarding Gigi’s organ donation, and should he go to court, he will lose.  A bastard like Clint benefiting from wonderful Gigi is a “sick, cruel joke,” and Rex refuses to allow such a travesty, to the point of trying to smother Clint with a pillow.
Natalie wonders where Rex is.  She’s torn between her father and her brother, and she fears Rex is unpredictable.  As she seeks him out, Viki sits with Gigi.  Viki sighs over Gigi’s love and strength, and she feels she owes Gigi for bringing her back to life in Paris, Texas.  She makes an admission: the rent Gigi apparently insisted on paying for the carriage house has gone into a college fund for Shane which Viki opened.

Natalie stops Rex from killing Clint and gets caught in the crossfire as Rex blasts Clint for wanting to “kill Gigi.”  After Rex storms out, Clint asks Natalie to call the police, but she refuses to allow Clint to manipulate Rex.  He can’t afford delays and Natalie will be mourning both Gigi and Clint if she doesn’t help.  She’s sympathetic, but she rips the phone cord out of the wall.

Viki vows to care for Gigi’s family, and when Rex returns, she gathers him in her arms.  He is broken; they were so close to having everything, and now Clint is trying to take Gigi’s heart “by force,”  and he vows to fight Clint.

Tea assures Jack of privilege, but warns him that he could face murder charges.  John interrupts the Mannings, refusing to release Todd and intent on questioning Jack, starting with the common-knowledge bullying.  Tea jumps to Jack’s defense with the ‘blame the victim’ routine (Shane) and challenges John that he has circumstantial evidence at best.  When John steps out, a deluded Jack shows no remorse and only worries about his own hide, much to Tea’s discomfort.  John releases Todd and Jack, but warns Jack that it’s only a matter of time before the forensic report comes in and places him at the scene.  In the hall, Todd orders Tea to get Jack out of hot water.

Viki admonishes Clint for his behavior, and while still pragmatic, he finally shows some compassion.  Meanwhile, Tea intrudes on Rex to offer help, and at first he bitterly dismisses her, but he ultimately asks for the favor to end all favors: he needs her to help him marry Gigi.

Starr goes ballistic when she sees that the rude stranger hijacked her iPod and replaced all of her music; he refuses to restore everything until she listens to one song.  Idiotically playing along, she listens and reluctantly agrees that his taste is good; she’s more impressed when he reveals that the song is an original track.  He’s a DJ, and he tries to entice her into becoming a groupie.  She balks, but does suggest he lend his talents to Ultraviolet.  He returns her restored, albeit embellished, iPod before finally introducing himself; he’s Baz.

A mysterious woman named Yvette shocks a disbelieving Blair with the news that she’s Tomas’ wife.  Yvette realizes Blair is the woman from the painting, and she suggests Tomas wasn’t truthful about its origins.  Tomas appears, and Blair slaps him and accuses him of lying.  He comes clean: Yvette cheated and had another man’s baby, but she has refused to sign divorce papers for years.  She was allegedly ready, but reneged.  She claims that her son belongs to Tomas, and when he scoffs, she directs him to ask Sebastian, who’s in the other room.  He’s not, and Yvette and Tomas scramble while Blair remains dumbstruck.

Ford barges into the nursery and plants a kiss on “Tess.”  Jessica pushes him away and insists Tess is never coming back, but he refuses to believe her.  Per Jessica, Tess is a part of her, but she doesn’t know the meaning of love, and no matter her promises, Ford is and will not be a part of Jessica’s or Ryder’s lives.  She threatens to press charges against Ford for trespassing or worse, but Ford thinks he’s immune to such things.

Jessica vows that Ford violated her when she couldn’t give consent, and as soon as he played house with her alter, he lost all rights to Ryder.  She tries to throw him out, but he insists she has no choice but to deal with him because he’s Ryder’s father.  Jessica blasts him for actively keeping her sick and promises that he will lose in court when it’s on record that he exploited a symptom of her illness.  Delusional, he believes he was building a life with Tess and Ryder, but Jessica vows that if he doesn’t back off, he’ll only see Ryder from behind bars.  As she dials the phone, he agrees to leave, but threatens to return for Tess and Ryder.

Rex trying to smother Clint is up there with Destiny's "...not after what happened in your BED!" to Matthew and Marty's touchdown sign after she threw Natalie from the roof as one of the best/funniest moments of the last six months on OLTL. More like that, please for this final six months we've got left Sad

How do you marry a brain dead person? You can't even marry a mentally incompetent person in real life, as they are unable to legally give consent or enter into contracts; unlike on this soap when guys kept marrying Tess. I know that soaps exist in their own peculiar universe; but some of this is just ridiculous nonsense. What will Rex do next--steal Gigi's corpse and run away with it?

YES! Great episode all around! I would have tried to smother Clint too!
I whooped a little with Natalie pulled out the phone cord! About time she stood up to Clint. Vicki broke me down when she told Gigi that she had been saving the rent money in an account for Shane. A lovely touch!

Every time I read about Destiny's "in your bed" comment the urge to wonder what the hell happened in that bed makes me laugh out loud.

What will Rex do next--steal Gigi's corpse and run away with it?

Bhwahaahhhhhhhhhhh I can see Rexx making goofy faces while trying to smuggle Gigi out of the hospital! Drunk

Jessica was on fire while talking with Ford which is how she should have dealt with him, Brody and Natalie instead of hiding behind Tess.

OLTL is smoking hot and I can not wait to see today's show.

Loved Jessica going off on Ford and throwing him out. Of course it won't last. At the end she had this look on her face like "Oh maybe he's not so bad after all". She's so dumb.

Viki talking to Gigi was so sad. I liked the Paris, Texas mentions. That was was good story.

Rex trying to smother Clint was hilarious. Both he and Clint are wrong in this situation. Clint's being insensitive and Rex is irrational. Nobody is trying to kill Gigi. She's gone. And you can't marry her because that's just gross.

I hate Yvette already. Her french accent is like something out of a bad SNL skit. The backstory with her and Tomas is stupid. Not feeling Baz either. Why do they keep bringing in lame outsiders to cause conflict for couples? It's Ron's favorite thing to do next to making people crazy before they leave the show.

"...but Ford thinks hes immune to things like that"-Best analysis of that despicable character. I HATE him and everything about him, and that is all I will say. Except that, I loved everything that Jessica said, and I pray to God that the writers maintain her sense of disgust and loathing towards him.

Vikki was awesome and made me really sad for a character I cared very little for the last few years.

Rex trying to smother Clint was pretty good. I also like that Clint finally showed some compassion for Gigi and Shane.

It is really annoying and disappointing that Jack continues to show no remorse and only a concern for himself. I do not blame Todd for wanting to protect his son, or Tea for being a good lawyer and step mother. He may technically deserve a horrible punishment, he is entitled to a defense. I think if/when he gets off Todd and Blair should ship him off to reform school never to be seen again! (Or at least recast with a good actor and a sense of regret.) I did, like always, enjoy the Todd/John banter.

Why does Rex make me wish it was him in that bed instead of Gigi? I'm not even a Gigi fan but can't stand watching Rex and his, like liason4real said, goofy faces. just takes so much away from the dialogue. because goofy that I am I am looking at them when they are on and he is to distracting and not in a good way.

Clint is knocking on death's door and he still is meaner than a rattle snake. LOL But I am really liking Clint since he went all Asa. well what he thinks Asa would do anyway. I like bad Clint I guess. I thought he was boring being so nice.

I like that Baz kid. He is good looking and by gosh it almost looks like he can act. So far any way.

Wonder when Blair is going to find out about Jack.

Love Viki.

Um, does anyone remember this story when it ran on other soaps? No offense, but I am an AMC watcher through and through, and while it ran this with Gillian's death and Ryan trying to prevent her heart from going to Laura, it still happened.

I love AMC and fully know why it is going off the air - too many recycled stories. Even the current doppleganger s/l with Jane is a rehash of other plot points. These soaps need more character driven storylines; that's how they would have survived.

I think Rex is acting out of desperation to hold onto both Gigi and her heart (the sky has fallen Henny Penny, I’m defending Rex’s actions). If he were thinking clearly, I think he’d realize he couldn’t really marry her. I *think* it stems from him both not wanting Clint to have a piece of her, and him not wanting to believe that she is really gone…

Clint was being an ass, as usual. JVD plays a GREAT bastard! I hate him, but still like him, and more than that I LOVE to hate him!

I won't even discuss Tea. I hate her. Always have. That's all.

Oh Blair, always chasing the wrong men. Just go home and look behind the La Boulaie bushes, honey… And then SMACK some more sense into your sociopathic needs-to-be-in-jail son. Stare

I think OLTL should go balls to the wall and write a Who Shot Ford? storyline before all is said and done. But I don’t want him recovering or some crap like that. If you going to go all out, GO ALL OUT!

I'm still loving it as usual.

Yet another great episode...this show should not be canceled.

---Baz is good and he is able to act BUT why is the show bringing on these new characters with only 6 months left to develop? It just doesn't make sense.

---I predicted LaChanze was coming on as Destiny and Deanna's long lost mother, guess I was wrong. Oh well. Useless Deanna will just take up more screen time

---Liked Rex and Clint, poor Rex. Clint is a bastard, but I think he is getting his heart back.

---Viki talking to Gigi...damn...give this woman another Emmy please

---Hope Jack Manning pays for what he's done.

---Liking Blair and Tomas more and more

---I do like the vitality of Tess, but Jessica is the real person here and she's rocking the house! Glad to have Jessica back...I REALLY hope they aren't putting her with Ford...it would be a shame.

I didn't find Clint's behavior all that bad actually. He didnt start anything it was Rex who came busting into his room yelling at him and slinging accusations. All Clint did was state a fact...Rex has no say in the matter of Gigi's organs being donated; of course he stated the fact in the coldest way possible but Rex is a douche so he gets treated like one.
And the attempted murder was bad enough but the way Viki and Natalie seem to just brush it off as Rex being upset seems kind of odd.

I also may be in the minority but I like the way Jessica is acting. Sure she is being a huge see you next Tuesday but that is better than the blandness I am used to from her. She seems to have retained a bit more of Tess than she ever has before. Even her reaction to finding out Gigi is the donor for Clint was acceptable to me. If my dad only had days to live and some casual acquaintance was a match I would be all "unplug that ho and rip her out already" too.

And Ford needs to be hit by a truck. How he can stand in Jessica's face mewling about how he wants Tess back like she were a real person was sickening.

This Sebastien/Bas kid seems alright to me. He is a better actor already than all 3 of the Ford boys combined and he has more chemistry with Starr than I have ever seen with her and James. It is a bit ridiculous though that everytime Starr is happy in a relationship some new guy shows up and starts sniffing around her.

Does anyone know whether Austin Peck is off the show already? They sure didn't do much with him, but with the Marty storyline done, he doesn't seem to have any connection to the show anymore. Was he a casualty of the sudden news of OLTL's cancellation?

^^ I have the same question about Jessica Leccia as Inez. Is she off the show? Neither Inez or Rick the Porn Guy were good characters but they were played by good actors. It's really too bad that Austin Peck was not cast as Joey instead of Tom Degnan. Besides being a better actor, AP would have had chemistry with both Terri Conn's Aubrey and Gina Tognoni's Kelly. Also, AP looks older than Jessica and Natalie. Alas, I guess its a moot point now...

Regarding yesterday's episode, I give Rex a pass. Clint is an awful person to Rex for no good reason and even now as Gigi is on life-support. JPL, JVD, MA and ES were fantastic. Everything else was beyond dumb and annoying. Tomas, his wife and child are just unnecessary dead weight. This Baz character had one of the worst introductions of a new character I have seen in a long time. Just creepy and unappealing. Baz made me wish for James and that is not a good thing. Starr is best as a supporting character, not a romantic lead. OLTL has too many extraneous stories and characters. This is the problem with OLTL.

Terd is so disgusting. Jessica was not nearly angry with Ford enough. Just disgusting.

Alstonboy4315...I suggested OLTL should have had Ford end up with either a STD, HIV or have Langston find out that she could not have children because of her bed hopping with sleazy Ford. The s/l would have served two purposes in Ford realizing that his cavalier ways and bed hopping hurt Langston, Hannah, Jessica, pizza girl and the other 44 women that he slept with. It's been a long time since I've seen a soap tackle a HIV or other sexual disease s/l in years.
