One Life to Live Recap: So Complicated

Rex:  I don’t care what anybody says or what anybody else wants.  Your heart stays with me.

Color me shocked. John-Paul Lavoisier is bringing it big time.

Natalie gushes that a match for Clint has been found until Rex blurts that it’s Gigi’s heart the doctors are offering up.  She’s stunned silent and he can’t comprehend the tragedy in the slightest.  Gigi’s doctor approaches about prepping Gigi for organ donation based on her donor card, but Rex refuses to even entertain the idea of Clint benefiting.  After dismissing Natalie, Rex sits with Gigi and cries at her bedside.  He believes she would be okay with his refusal to help Clint, and promises he will fight to keep her whole.

Joey thinks Clint’s new heart is a done deal, but Clint isn’t getting his hopes up because a fiancé still must be consulted.  A stricken Viki returns, and when she informs them of Gigi’s death, Clint realizes the fiancé in question is Rex.

Jessica is shocked to learn that Aubrey and Joey are Ryder’s legal guardians.  She wants to pry Ryder out of Aubrey’s arms, but she’s forced to leave him be after Aubrey accidentally blurts that Clint is in the hospital.  After Brody fills her in, Jessica races to be with her father.  Aubrey learns that Jessica found Brody with Natalie, and she and Brody commiserate about bad timing.  She knows she’s about to lose Joey, but doesn’t think love just disappears; neither does Brody.

Viki gets a call from St. Ann’s alerting her to Tess’ escape as Jessica arrives.  She convinces her family she’s herself and everyone celebrates.  When Natalie shows up, the tension is palpable.  The family babies Jessica, and though she insists she’s perfectly healthy and in control forever, she placates Viki by saying she made an appointment with Dr. Levin for the morning.  Clint suggests Joey go home to “take out the trash,” and Jessica leaves with him.

Viki questions Natalie about the sisterly divide, and she confesses to what Jessica walked in on.  Viki doesn’t judge; instead, she wishes happiness for Natalie, Brody and Liam, and she hopes Jessica can find a way to accept the new dynamic.  Later, a somber Viki and Natalie visit Gigi, but Natalie wonders to where Rex has disappeared.  Meanwhile, Rex storms into Clint’s room, vowing to bar him from receiving Gigi’s heart, but Clint smirks that Rex has no legal rights.

Agent Kent catches up with Original Todd at La Boulaie and holds him at gunpoint.  OT bluffs that he has the “it” Kent seeks and hands him the golden balloon wedding picture, but Sam interrupts them.  Kent turns a second weapon on Sam because “he’s a witness,” and OT goes into protection mode.  He attacks Kent and they struggle until a gun goes off and Kent drops dead.  Sam believes Kent was a bad man, but when he wonders if OT is as well because he just killed a man, OT isn’t sure.  Sam decides OT is good because he saved Sam’s life, so when OT asks Sam to keep everything a secret, Sam readily agrees.

Blair shows up at Tomas’ hotel in New York and observes a clandestine meeting between Tomas and Claude.  After Tomas disappears into a room - where he fights with an unseen party about being blackmailed - Blair receives an inopportune phone call from Dorian, but she hangs up when she’s busted by the “fishy Frenchman.”  He admonishes her for following Tomas and warns her to back off.  She agrees, but as soon as Tomas storms out of the room, she slinks in and snoops.  She’s caught by a woman who drops a bombshell: she’s Tomas’ wife.

Starr and James register for summer classes at LU.  She’s in a good mood because Matthew appears to be making progress, but James is bummed because Hope hates him.  They make plans to strengthen Hope’s comfort level before James is called away by Ford.  A stranger with clear interest in Starr lurks, as Starr volleys between phone calls from Langston and Dorian.  When she steps away for privacy, he hijacks her forgotten iPod.  Later, Starr blasts him for his theft as he just smiles.

Ford panics when Tess isn’t at the Minuteman.  He calls James for help, who labels him crazy and stupid for breaking out Tess.  James is convinced that Tess played Ford, but Ford whimpers that Tess is his true love forever and she’d never con him.  He convinces James to sneak into St. Ann’s via nun’s habit to check on Tess.  Later, James returns and informs Ford that his crimes left St. Ann’s in chaos, but Tess was nowhere to be found.

Joey and Jessica return to Llanfair, where Joey forces Aubrey to relinquish Ryder.  Aubrey tries to connect with Joey, but he won’t budge.  The family doesn’t include her, and she’s to leave immediately whether or not she has anywhere to go.  Later, as Jessica coos over her son and inexplicably flashes back to Tess' night with Ford, Ford appears in the nursery (breaking and entering again, I see) and smiles when he sees “Tess.”

Being that this episode was my first experience with "Jess", can I just say I want "Tess" back? As a relatively new viewer, I didn't see what all the fuss was about as "Jess" was just nasty to Brody, Natalie & Aubrey only without the sense of humor that went with "Tess". I'm also surprised at how readily her family accepted she was "Jess" considering the number of times "Tess" tried to fool them: they didn't ask her any questions to try to trip her up or anything.

Blair clearly has a terrible babysitter because Sam should not be left on his own like that near dark, although I loved the scenes between Roger Howarth's Todd & Sam.

For me, the character of Jessica has been assassinated. Once it was stated that Jessica allowed Tess to emerge, I was done. Bree Williamson's acting choices do not help. I pray for Erin Torpey's return to finish up final run of the show but I know it won't happen. ET's return would be the only thing to salvage Jessica.

Ugh, the episode was nauseating with so much focus on Jessica being back and Ford's chuckling over Tess' idea to put a nun in a straitjacket. Ugh, again. Another "hell no" from me came about the very odd, smirky young man ogling Starr. Yuck. Really, do we need new characters at this point?

Only saving graces were Erika Slezak and JPL's acting over Gigi's death. I also enjoyed Roger Howarth and Terri Conn's performances as well. Man, I really like a reformed Aubrey because I think TC is a wonderful actress.

I really don't understand the whole Jess and Tess dynamic. Shouldn't Jess know everything that Tess knows? They are the same person with the same eyes and ears. If Jess hears something, Tess should know it as well and vice versa? Why does Jess have to be told that Tess lost custody? Isn't Jess right there inside her and supposedly struggling to get out? I just don't get it.

Is there a babysitter for Sam? He spends an awful lot of time near a swimming pool which is a major no no. Was he carrying a prepared meal for OT? On a tray? He is a cute kid. I missed the sunglasses though. Blair is in NYC. Dorian and Langston are in Cali. Starr is at school. I guess there should be servants but why isn't Sam with Todd and Tea?

^^ You are right but the writers seem to re-write DID to suit their needs rather than be consistent.

I absolutely am loving every minute of OLTL. Llanview continues to be the best soap opera town on the air. I will miss this show SO much. JPL is knocking it out of the park!

As far as Jess/Tess, I think Bree has done some great work and I am happy that Jess has returned.

I find the little friendship between Sam and Roger's Todd a great idea on behalf of the writers.

I love Llanview.

Loved Sam with MWS - even if MWS is too nice to be Todd. Agree that Sam spends way too much time alone around that pool. With psycho son #2 running around loose that somehow worries me. I like Blair & Tomas. Granted he is a lying liar but I just hated T&B and their endless reunions. Tea the enable makes TnT even worse. Tea will get Jack off and clueless Blair will get blamed for raising psycho son #2.

Hated Stacy and have not really like Rex since. Do agree he has been on fire lately. I really like the kid playing Shane and thought Farah was great.

Jess & Ford is nauseating.

Addy is a fab babysitter. Have they shown Addy recently? I don't remember the last time I saw her.

I thought Rex/JPL and Vikki/ES were amazing with the Gigi stuff. They sold every single scene they were in and had me feeling their grief and pain. I also enjoyed NataLIE's writing where she is just waxing so positively about Clint having a donor, and then hearing it was Gigi, and Rex's adamant denial of the heart going to Clint. This is good stuff, and would have been even better without the sturm and drang of Matthew possibly having been the donor.
I love bad Clint, but I would like for him to be more upset about Gigi at least for the sake of Shane. His harsh words to Rex came off as incredibly insensitive.

Poor Sam, his dad is in jail and dealing with his big brother who is responsible for a woman's death, and his mother is following around after some man she barely knows in a different city, and he is left all alone with some cyborg(that is what I am convinced TM is. When he remembers Jack or a moving memory, I will change that opinion) and a man with a gun.

With seven months to go, I do not see a real reason for this sketchy character that is creeping around Starr. I am also disappointed in Hope for not liking James. I hope this Baz person does not add any angst to Jarr, they yet to have either a moment of calm or a real adventure. I would enjoy either of them, but some weird guy trying to come between them I do not want.

I like TC, but I do not feel one ounce of sympathy for Aubrey and I am happy Joey threw her out on her derriere! Feeling sorry for yourself because a woman with mental problems is on the path to recovery so she can be with her children again because it means the man you tried to fleece can dump you, does not sympathy engender from me.

I will address the loathsome pos Ford before I get to Jody. His once again laughing at putting a blind nun in a straight jacket to help a mental patient escape is just disgusting. Like Aubrey, I feel not even a shred of sympathy that he has lost his victim/mental patient lover. And HOW does he keep waltzing into Llanfair and traipsing around the house as he pleases? If JEssica's reaction to him is anything other than a punch, I might immediately change the channel.

Onto Jody. I thought their stuff on Friday was amazing! Mark Lawson showed again why it is a shame that he and his character are being tossed aside for a lesser actor and character! I say that with nothing against DG, but I have yet to see even 1 defense of him or Ford that does not involve him shirtless. I loved that Jessica did not revert back to Tess when she saw Brody in bed with Natalie and stood up for herself, like she did after the wedding interruptus. In this situation the only person who is absolutely wrong is Natalie! There is not one excuse or explanation that makes what she did not despicable. I understand that the sight/thought of Brody telling Jessica that he blamed her after being caught in bed with her sister sounds utterly vile, after hearing his side of the argument, I do not condone his sleeping with her sister, but I understand his loosing faith in them as a couple. I loved when he said that he begged her time and again to fight harder for him AND her children and family. That was my biggest gripe, especially when she came back and then let Ford taunt her away while she was holding her child. I am not a psychologist, so I am not versed on DID beyond years of watching OLTL, but I feel like there has to be some sense of agency for Jessica at the very least letting her guard down enough to allow Tess to gain hold, at the worst letting her out because she did not want to deal with her romantic pain. I also think Brody had a good point that the entire creation of Wes was to hurt Brody, and I think it had an undercurrent of extreme sexual rejection too, because he came out after a kiss from Brody. After 6 months of rejection, hate, and abuse from Tess, who is the baser parts of Jessica, I saw Brody giving up in a new light. Having said that, I still think it was gross that he slept with her sister. And he is not blameless, because his lies DID contribute to starting the situation that lead to Tess coming out. I think they need to take a break from each other (which is NOT an invitation for him to try a relationship with NataLIE), and when he looses everything, which he inevitably will, I think Jessica should be the one to help him recover and that leads them to get back together. They have hurt each other, but I think that is true of most soap couples, so I see no reason why they should not be able to eventually recover. I am pretty sure that is not what is going to happen, but its what I want and will imagine in my head, because if they put her with Ford, I will change the channel whenever they are on for the next 7 months! And any kind of "Ford hurt me, but you hurt me worse" BS will be met with extreme disgust by me.

Rex has no legal standing to make decisions for Gigi--being a fiance does not give you any legal rights. Has he even established legal paternity of Shane? But even if he has established a claim to Shane--which I don't recall happening--he would still have no legal rights re: Gigi. Sorry, but "baby daddy" does not count under the law and most common law marriage situations are no longer recognized in most states.

I have repeatedly signed up to be an organ donor plus bone marrow donor and am single; so my next-of-kin know that this is my wish and I believe they will honor it. Rex may hate Clint but you generally don't get to pick and choose whom an organ donation goes to--that why they have a registry with a priority list to try to prevent people from being swayed by money or other preferences; so that it is strictly up to the medical personnel to decide, like it or not. If need be, the hospital can go to court to force the donation; but that should not be necessary unless Gig has some adult next-of-kin--and Shane is not an adult--to consult. Consulting Rex is just a courtesy so Clint is right if lacking in compassion.

Rex should prove he is the better man than his sperm donor. After all, at one time Shane needed a bone marrow donation that saved his life and could conceivably need one in the future. I would be grateful that my son was saved by a medical donation and not sink to Clint's level for the sake of my own peace of mind and to honor my beloved's wish to help others with an organ donation--even if the donation was received by my worst enemy. The state of my heart and soul means more than any thirst for revenge, however justifiable.

I was actually enjoying Tess (but definitely NOT Ford) but Jessica has turned into a sanctimonious brat who, not only cannot handle her own problems with her own personality, but now is a coward who admitted to letting Tess out! Where's the Earth Mother that supposedly loves her children sooo much?? Why would she let psycho Tess take control...and keep it...and be gone from her kids for so long? I really enjoyed BW at the beginning of her run (after crying over ET leaving) but I have not liked her portrayal in years!

I hate that they have sacrificed Brody's character for this drivel. I wish that he and Natalie had fallen in love from the start; they have so much more chemistry than he and Jessica ever did. Is it too much to hope that Jessica leaves the show early?? Yeah, I thought so Sad

I really love OLTL in general, but I have been in LOVE with the show truly, truly, the last few days. Friday was one of the best shows I had seen in a really long time, and that’s saying something. The way Rex was looking at Natalie (who wouldn’t shut up, which was very soapy as she was all gleeful and he was grieving Gigi), just broke me down. I mean, I was in some TEARS! I actually watched the show a few times on SoapNet and online, just because I thought the episode was so good.

RHTodd was always nice to kids… Smile

Speaking of, Monday’s episode was better in terms of RHTodd. He and Sam are just ADORABLE beyond belief! I love them. I say a spinoff, with him, Sam and his glasses, with Blair and Starr on the side… Wink

That said, Oh Blair, I love you. I truly, truly, do and have since I was knee high to a pigs eye … You are TOTALLY my GURL4LIFE! HOWEVER, your babysitters SUCK, hon! Addie does NOT need to be watching Sam, that‘s clear, girlfriend! He was better cared fore in TM’s hands and he KILLED a man! (though Sam didn’t seem too affected by it, which I find suspect… then again, his birth mother was a total wack job, his dad is a total screw up and a liar, in and out of jail, Blair’s not around, his brother is a complete sociopath and his sister has her own issues with her boy of the moment… I guess it makes sense. Sad.) Addie just lets the lil boy run around La Boulaie like a playground at all hours of the day at night, hanging by the pool, bringing food to “homeless” men about to be killed by some agent with a bad headache, I‘m sure! But if a homeless man came up on my porch looking like RHTodd, I’d more than likely be stupid enough to let him in, then probably wind up dead. So, yeah… (I'm, kidding, of course)

WHERE was Kelly??? We know she wasn’t with Joey! She couldn’t watch lil Sam??? Or was she dying her hair again??? Am I the only one who noticed her hair got MORE blond while she was in the hospital???

I don’t appreciate how NO ONE has bothered to tell Starr or Blair (regardless of my girl’s location) that A) Gigi is brain dead and B) JACK is partially responsible. This is my prediction, not a spoiler, as I don’t read them anymore:

I say that this story is going to include Blair’s son, and TSJTodd tossing his money around looking like a bastard to get his son off the murder charges, while Rex is grieving his dead fiancee, and Tea trying to do anything for TSJTodd, YET again, no matter how wrong he and his kid are. Send his butt to prison. Forget juvenile hall. I can’t take him anymore. Give me RHTodd/Blair, I don’t care what you do with those two.

I DO NOT like this BAZ dude! He was practically STALKING Starr with his eyes.

And unless IT is that damn disk, I’m wondering if ANYONE knows what IT is! Then again, why would they think RHTodd has IT, when he was in those damn keds and white outfit for however long??? Where would he put IT??? How would he have gotten IT??? What IS IT??? Does IT really matter??? Okay, I’ll stop.

I won't discuss Ford/Tess. Wont. Do. "It".

lol. Baz is into music and my first thought was finding my ear plugs since we're off to a summer of singing teens!

Wow. OLTL surprises me everyday which means very little gets fast forwarded.

Jessica is a huge brat! The world did not stop Jessica while you were riding the crazy train and Ford! Ugh. I hate when Jessica takes over from one of her crazy azz alters and expects everyone to kiss her lily white backside.

I am enjoying the confrontations between Rexx and Clint.

It's been over year since Addie was on our screens.

The episode was pretty good, save for time spent on Starr and James(who both now bore the living hell out of me) and her stalker. Once again, Blair's taste in men is proven pretty bad(though I LOVE Kassie DePaiva to bits) and Tomas is now also boring the hell out of me. The hospital scenes were fantastic; JPL has been so good for the last week or so and of course Erika Slezak is simply her usual imcomparable self.

Now to Jessica; she shoulda stayed Tess. For me, BW has never had a firm grasp on the Jessica character(Erin Torpey was and still is the definitive Jessica), thanks in no small part to the bad writing she's been given and the DID mess that's changed every other week. I've never been crazy about Tess, but that's one character BW plays the HELL out of so I wish on some level they'd stick with that alter and retire Jess the mess for good.

Lastly, I hope they keep Brody and Natalie together; so much chemistry and both are so much more interesting together than they were with their previous screen partners(the ONLY character McPain has ever been good with was Kelly and they need to stick Tess with that walking ad for body waxing Ford--kidding, I actually love David Gregory and I don't think Ford's the biggest douche on daytime either, especially as long as Y&R's Nick is still alive and kicking).

Oh LAWD, I hope we don’t get more StarrCrossed LUVERS this season! LOL. I can’t… I love OLTL, you know I do, but I can’t with more singing from them…

But Baz… dude gotta GO! Straight up! He, Deanna, and NATE, especially, can hit that midnight back train to SwampVille for all I care. I just want them, GONE!

^^^ And this, ChrisGa… (LOVED Erin Torpey's Jessica too, BTW!)

I hate the alters equally, but when Jessica heard about Gigi being brain dead, what the hell did she say??? “Well, I’m sorry, but can she save dad?” GAH! I wanted to reach through the television and smack her! Her flippant attitude grates my nerves. Her version of Jessica is so selfish and childlike, it’s ridiculous! No concern for Rex (and I hate Rex, always have, but even I feel bad for him), no concern for anyone else but her dad. Look, I love my dad too, but she needs to take a cue from Viki on how to be both grateful and show some respect and sadness for a family friend and relative who just lost a loved one, and the other who just lost their life. When Jessica was being selfish, AGAIN, I was immediately taken back to the wedding when all the ish hit the fan, and she was being dumb about that. If she played Jess the way she played Tess, with more awareness and a little more oomph, it wouldn’t be such a problem. I know BW thinks Jess is boring and loves playing Tess, but the choices she makes as Jess don’t help her case at all! Puzzled
