How's this for a perfect start to Daytime Emmy weekend? CBS Soaps in Depth tweeted in the wee hours of the morning that one of our fav-or-ite soapers—and one of the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor (he won in 2010)— Billy Miller has renewed his contract with The Young and the Restless!

According to SID, the dude Daytime Confidential's Jillian Bowe christened "Killer Miller" because of his penchant for MURDERING every scene (in an oh-so-good way), signed on for another year of bringing us the sexy, rowdy, passionate Billy Abbott. Man it feels good to write a positve post about Y&R!

Wasn't it known that Gina Tognoni was offered the role of Victoria but turned it down to return to OLTL? I hope the offer still stands.
As for Tamara Braun, I loved her version of Carly, didn't watch AMC when she was on, thought she was good as Ava on Days (but in a ridiculous storyline), but as Taylor she is horrid. I know that she is completely wrong for the part, but her acting isn't great either. She stutters every line and overacts every scene. Because of this, I'm hesitant to see her as Victoria.

Didn't Sarah Brown play Victoria a long time ago?

Whoops that was Sarah Aldrich. I don't remember her Victoria.
I didn't care for Tamara Braun as Carly. She was my least favorite version of her. Sarah Brown was the best Carly, hands down.

Dyllan,
No. The only actresses who have played Victoria in the past 15 plus years have been Heather Tom, Sarah Aldrich ( in 1997 when Heather left briefly!) and Amelia Heinous. Sarah Aldrich does look kinda like Sarah Brown, which is probably why you mistook them for each other.

You didn't like Tamara Braun as Carly? (shakes head!). Sometimes, I don't know WHAT I am going to do with you...........

I believe Gina Tognoni said she was offered a part on Y&R, but around this time Amelia Heinous became pregnant. So if that role were Victoria, it obviously fell through because they didn't want to fire a pregnant woman. I think she'd be good in the part, but I don't think I could get past seeing her as Kelly Cramer.

I've been very vocal about my dislike for Victoria as played by Amelia H. and said that I wondered what Gina Tognoni would do with the part. However, Gina's return as Kelly Cramer has really been lackluster for me.
I just don't know if Gina would really be that much of an improvement over Amelia.

I agree that Gina's return on OLTL has been pretty forgettable, but I blame that on the writing, not Gina. When Gina is given great material to work with, she always delivers. She did so on Guiding Light, winning two Emmys in the process. I didn't see her original stint on OLTL, so I can't comment on that, but I love her to death and truly believe that she can sell ANYTHING.
Gina is best when she's dealing with intense emotional trauma, and everyday I see Amelia TRYING to convince me that Victoria is going through trauma over losing her child, I think about how MAGNIFICENT actors like Gina Tognoni, Sarah Brown or Heather Tom would be with the same material. They would be knocking it out of the BALLPARK. Victoria needs to be STRONG and FIERY, not a wimp, which is essentially how Amelia plays her, as a spineless jellyfish. She can't play "bitch" well, "heroine" well or highly dramatic material.

What about Kassie Depaiva?

SoapArmageddon---
Kassie DePaiva is WAYYY too old to be Victoria. She's 50 years old. Victoria is supposed to be in her late 30s. Kassie could play Victor's LOVE interest, but not his daughter.

I love Kassie Depaiva, but she is too old to play Victoria. She's 50 years old (although she doesn't look like it in the least!). MTS is only 5 years older.

You guys won't let me have my fantasy...That's all right.
We all know that age has never really been a huge consideration in casting decisions for the soaps.
(OMG, She's FIFTY???????? Where does time go?)

Lol SoapArmageddon! You are right - Nick and Jackie on B&B are a perfect example. And come to think of it, Blair was Asian before Kassie Depaiva came along so anything is possible!

On a random note, my mom predicted Y&R will hire Farah Fath as Diane, LOL.
Kassie is definitely too old. She's close to the age of Phyllis

Kassie would be awesome in nearly any role on Y&R in my opinion!

Actually, I would like to see Sarah Brown as Victoria for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Sarah could hold her own against Michelle Stafford's Phyllis. Sarah has played a kick-ass character twice that I know of -- Carly and Claudia on GH.
With Sarah Brown in the role, a reinvigorated Victoria could be written in a powerful way and thus, put Phyllis in her place. She is long overdue!

Sarah Buxton is a bit long in the teeth for Victoria, but she would've been perfect for Diane. I loved me some Annie Douglas on "Sunset Beach"!
Anyone remember how she was pretty much the saving grace for that show?

She's pushing 47 years old...........haven't seen her in years. I wonder if she's even acting anymore? It is interesting to point out that she tried out for the role of Carly on GH back in 2005, along with Jamie Luner, who plays Liza on AMC. Of course, Laura Wright got the part. I don't remember much about Sunset Beach, other than that woman who impregnated Vanessa with the turkey baster and the Terror Island story that James Reilly wrote.

There are no heroines or bitches or fiery women on Y&R now.
It is:
ridiculously traumatized victim (Lily, Sharon)
useless whiner (Chloe, Heather, Victoria)
psycho shrew (Genevieve, Katherine, Phyllis)
punching bag (Nikki, Jill, Diane)
As long as Y&R continues to hate and marginalize women it doesn't matter who they cast in any role. I've seen Maura West turn crap into gold for 15 years and what does Y&R give her? Being tossed out of an ambulance.

^You can use those same labels 20 years ago. I still believe some viewers are stuck in the past and overly glamorize it and forget about its faults. BTW, are you into nihilism?
I love how this thread is mostly about who should be recasted as Victoria, lol.
Sarah Buxton? interesting.

I disagree with your notion that "it doesn't matter who is playing Victoria" because the character and the writers are so screwed up. It's amazing what a casting change can do for a character, in terms of making him or her more likable. There have been MANY characters who I have despised until CAPABLE actors came in who had the power to transform crap into sugar. I do blame the writers for decimating many of Y&R's characters, but the responsibility STILL rests with the actors to give 100 percent to try to sell whatever's on the page, and Amelia doesn't do that. Sorry, she just doesn't. An actress like Gina Tognoni or Tamara Braun would certainly help me to empathize with and root for Victoria more. Just my opinion. I don't expect others to share it, but it is what it is...........
And Maura West was great on ATWT, but she simply didn't gel on Y&R for a number of different reasons. And I personally think that the writing for the character of Diane was simply ONE reason why she didnt' work on the show, but a lot had to do with her just not being right for the role. I still contend that perhaps a different actress like Colleen Zenk or Nancy Lee Grahn might have made the character more likable. Maura West is great, but she didn't work any miracles with this part.

Is there anyone you've felt that way about who has been recast during the time of MAB/Sheffer?
Even when the actors are well-received, like Billy Miller or Michael Muhney, it doesn't seem to make a difference in how the characters work on the canvas. Instead it becomes about writing around what best suits the actor. You can't do that with an actress on Y&R because the people who run Y&R now don't care about writing for women.
Every high-profile actress who has been put on Y&R over the last few years has faltered. When it happens again and again and again, to women who have very different styles and characters, then I end up blaming the show.

I disagree. I don't believe the show had a major heroine like Sharon, who used a constantly changing definition of mental illness to justify sleeping with random men and not knowing who fathered her child, who went on about how this child was going to be a miracle, and who then promptly forgot her child because she was more interested in a life with the man who told her her child had died with severe deformities. I also don't remember a major heroine like Lily, who was gaslighted for months by the man who supposedly loves her, until she had to check herself into a mental institution. Women who behaved like Phyllis were usually written as being outsiders and not to be taken seriously (Leanna Love, for instance), whereas Phyllis monopolizes the center of the show and just seems to devour story and character, usually just to fill up time. I don't believe Phyllis would destroy her entire life because she needs her granddaughter, and within six months, I think it will all be forgotten.
What set Y&R apart was many of the female characters in Bill Bell's era had a certain mystery, and those who didn't were easy to care about, down to earth. Now the female characters are either toxic or they can barely walk without falling over.

To answer your question, no it hasn't happened on Y&R during the past three years, I must admit. In fact, I have ended up HATING many female characters that I used to love, such as Phyllis and Chloe. I also find myself disliking Katherine Chancellor more and more, which hurts my heart since she used to be my favorite Y&R character. In fact, there isn't ONE female character on this show, other than the recurring characters like Olivia and Traci, that I can honestly say that I LIKE. So you definitely have a point there. As Alistair Crane said, the only female characters on this show that manage to remain SOMEWHAT unscathed by the writers' pens are the recurring ones.
This show needs new writers, period. I don't think ANYONE would argue with that.
My strong desire to see Victoria recast is merely because of MY well-documented dislike of Amelia Heinle, and her acting choices, are lack thereof, in the part of Victoria. I simply think she's a crappy actress and I want her gone. Simple as that. But it's a moot point, because we all know they aren't getting rid of her.

All Diane did her entire time back in town was prostitute herself. I don't even think NLG would play that material.
Maybe someone could have been better than Maura but I don't think the talent would have mattered. Not only because they only wanted to write Diane as a whore, but also because of backstage interference (Josh Morrow working against a Nick/Diane pairing).
